Chapter Twelve

Lana POV:

"Sarah, I'm going to visit dad." I called out to her as I opened the bathroom door.

"Are you com-" I noticed a dark bruise on her cheek.

"What the hell happened?" I asked, my eyes wide.

"Lana!" She yelled angrily and slammed the door in my face.

I opened the door again and faced her.

"What happened to you? Don't you fucking lie to me." I demanded.

"Nothing." She muttered.

"Did Adam do this?" I asked angrily.

"Lana-" "Answer me!" I yelled.

"Yes." She whispered. "How long?" I asked. "A year." She said, her voice wavering.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked. "I was embarrassed." She said, her tears finally falling.

"You have to leave him." I told her. "I'm afraid of what he will do, Lan." She replied.

"Then we tell Dad." I said. "No! You can't tell Dad!" She panicked. "Then leave him." I told her.

She wiped the tears from her cheeks. "Okay."

"If I find out you let this continue, I'm telling dad." I said. Sarah hesitantly nodded.

I while later, I sat talking to Dad and Ryder.

"How do you feel?" I asked. "I'm okay. Got me on some good shit." He laughed.

"We can tell." Ryder said, smiling lightly.

"Where's Sarah?" Dad asked. "She'll be by soon." I told him.

I desperately wanted to tell them what was going on. I know how it would end though. Dad would prolong and torture him for days.

Kade on the other hand, wouldn't be able to help himself. He would just kill him.

Kade had been in love with Sarah for so many years. He hated seeing her with Adam.

"You look nervous, honey. Everything okay?" Dad asked. "Yeah. I'm good, old man." I said giving him a smile.

"I wish you guys wouldn't call me that." Dad whined.

"Sorry, old man." Ryder laughed.

I had gotten home later that night and saw Adam sitting on the couch next to Sarah.

I felt red hot rage course through my body.

"What's up, Lana?" Adam asked. "Not much, man. Didn't think you would be here." I said as calmly as possible.

"I asked him to come over." Sarah told me. "Is that right?" I asked.

"You should invite Cole. We could all hang out." Adam said, giving me a smile.

My mouth twitched slightly. "Yeah, I'll do that." I said and walked to my room.

I told her and she didn't listen.

I pulled out my phone and shot Ryder a message.

We need to talk.

Ryder: Sure. About what?

Sarah.

Ryder: Is she okay?

Can we meet?

Ryder: Sure

After telling Ryder to meet at the cafe, I grabbed my keys and walked back to the living room.

"I'll be back soon." I said and closed the door behind me before Sarah could question me.

Ryder POV:

I knew something was wrong as soon as she sent me that first message.

What was going on with Sarah?

I walked through the doors and saw her sitting on a booth in the back of the cafe.

"Hey." I said sitting across from her.

"Hey." She sighed.

"What did you need to talk about? Is Sarah okay?" I asked.

"No. She uh..." She stopped and clenched her hands into fists. I saw nothing but pure anger in her eyes.

"Lana, what is it?" I asked. "Adam has been fucking beating her. I found out this morning and told her if she didn't leave him, I would have to tell Dad." She told me.

I sat back in the seat, almost too shocked to say anything.

"And?" I asked. "She agreed. Then I come home and find the mother fucker on my couch!" She said a bit louder.

"What do you want to do?" I asked. "This needs to stay between us, at least until dad gets out of the hospital. I'm gonna have to talk to her again." Lana said.

"Okay. God this is so fucked. I don't want to just sit here and do nothing." I told her. "What do you suggest we do then?" Lana asked me. "You're right, though. Sam can't have all this on him right now. Just keep an eye on him." I said.

"Yeah. Thanks for meeting me, Ryder. I'm gonna head back. I don't want him alone with her." Lana said before standing.

"I get it. Go on." I told her.

What the fuck were we gonna do? Sam had to know. I fucking hated having to keep this from him.
