Chapter Nine

Lana POV:

Sarah and I stayed at the motel for a couple of days until we found an apartment. We were told it would be ready within a week so we decided to go back to the club house and pack our things.

"You're really leaving?" Dad asked as he stood in the doorway.

"Yeah." I said, emotionlessly. "I'm sorry, Lana." He said quietly. "It's too late, dad. The only reason your apologizing is because I'm leaving. I tried to get along with you but you didn't care. Ryder thinks I'm a whore because I have a boyfriend and I can't take this anymore." I replied.

"He called you a whore?" Dad asked. "Fuck off, dad! Let me pack my shit in peace!" I yelled, slamming the door in his face. Fucking assholes.

"Bitch, I told you not to come back here!" I heard Sarah yell.

I ran downstairs and found her swinging a bat at Ryder. What the hell?

"What the fuck is going on?" I asked, angrily.

"I warned this mother fucker not to come back but I guess he didn't take me serious enough." She said, swinging it again.

"Sarah, calm down, okay? We will be out of here in no time, so just chill." I tried to reason with her.

"He called you a whore!" Sarah yelled.

"I didn't mean it, Sarah!" Ryder yelled back.

"You still said it.. You can't just take it back." I said quietly.

"I'm sorry, Lana. Please.. You don't have to go." He begged. "I want to. It's too late for apologies. Don't come back here until we're gone, understood?"

"Ryder is here for a meeting, girls. Leave him alone." Dad said as he walked in the room.

"No one was talking to you, old man." Sarah said, holding the bag tightly in her hand.

"Don't talk to me like that in my own home, Sarah."

"We'll be gone in a week so I'll talk to you however the hell I want." Sarah growled out.

"You're leaving, too?" Dad asked, his voice wavering. "You care that I'm leaving but not Lana? You really are a shit father." Sarah replied.

"Sarah.." She didn't let him finish, only walking to her room to continue packing.

"Mom would be disappointed in you." I said to him before going back upstairs.

Ryder POV:

I never expected those words to leave Lana's mouth. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I heard those words.

"We have to do something." Samuel told me. "It's too late, Sam. We fucked this up beyond repair. We'll be lucky if we ever see either one of them again." I replied quietly.

The one woman I had ever loved hates me and I don't blame her.

I called Lana a whore... I know I only said it because of my jealousy. I had no right to be. I've been a whore myself for the last few days just to keep my mind off of her.

Lana POV:

I sat with Cole, Sarah and Adam during lunch. I'd had a good day that day. Guitar in my hand, we all sang along to The Sound of Silence.

"Hello darkness,

My old friend.

I've come to talk with you again."

A crowd began to gather around us as they swayed to the music.

"Because a vision softly creeping,

Left it's seeds while I was sleeping.

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of silence."

Some of the students began to softly sing along with us.

"In restless dreams I walked alone.

Narrow streets of cobblestone.

'Neath the halo of a street lamp.

I turned the collar to the cold and damp

When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light

That split the night

And touched the sound of silence.

I closed my eyes, getting more and more into the music, my voice getting stronger.

"And in the naked light I saw

Ten thousand people,

Maybe more.

People talking without speaking,

People hearing without listening,

People writing songs that voices never share.

And no one dared..

Disturb the sound.. of silence."

I hadn't noticed that the others stopped as I continued.

"Fools, I said, you do not know

Silence like a cancer grows.

Hear my words that I might teach you."

Soon I had completely forgotten I wasn't alone.

"Take my arms that I might reach you.

But my words like silent raindrops fell.

And echoed in the wells..

Of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed,

To the neon God they made.

And the sign flashed out it's warning."

After I finished the song, the yard thundered with applause, causing me to jump.

I realized then that I had gotten completely lost in the song and blushed bright red.

"That was beautiful, baby." Cole said, smiling fondly at me. "Thanks." I said, shyly.

"So when will your apartment be ready, girls?" Adam asked.

"Few more days. I can't wait to get away from our cunt of a father." Sarah said causing all of us to laugh.

I couldn't wait to get to my new home. It would be a fresh start for my sister and I.
