Chapter 7: Calm before the storm

Date: (Past) May 14, 2019, How the day went for Bonnie (moments after Devon left the apartment).

Bonnie sighed as she went back their apartment after sending Devon at the door. She was thinking of Devon and his cold demeanor towards her. Bonnie was having a bad feeling about their small fight last night. She feels like it could lead to something bad the moment they argue again. So, what she did earlier was to reach out to her husband but to no avail, he was still frustrated with how things worked out for them.

Ring ring ring, her phone ringing broke her of her own reverie.

"Hello? Who is this?," She answered, curious who was on the other end of the line.

"Bonnie, this Carylle, the boss said he needed you to come to the office immediately. It's an emergency," The voice from the other line said.

"Oh it's just you, why are you even using another number? By the way, what's happening there in the office?," Bonnie replied to her college friend who was working in the same company as her.

"It's about the designs of the XYZ corporation. Anyway, just come here immediately and you'll know what's happening here," Panic and frustration was heard from Carylle's voice.

"Ok then I'll be on my way,"

Bonnie took a quick shower and prepared as fast as she can to go to their firm. She was wondering what the problem was. XYZ corporation was one of their biggest clients and shareholder in the firm so even just a small mistake would be even considered as an emergency.

It took her 20 minutes to prepare herself and 10 minutes to get to their firm. The moment she arrived, she saw her friend looking haggardly carrying piles of documents and running through their firm's lobby.

Bonnie took the chance to run after Carylle and ask what emergency was she talking about.

"Carylle!," She called out.

Her friend stopped running in her tracks as she heard someone called out to her. She looked back and spot Bonnie who was running towards her.

"Hey Bonnie! come faster, We have a lot of things to do today," Carylle replied while waiting for Bonnie.

"What do you mean?" Bonnie asked. She was thinking of what could be the problem be? As far as she knows, the project with XYZ was almost coming to an end. Their firm completed all the designs XYZ needs.

"You should go to your boss. She was looking for you earlier. She'll explain it to you,"

"What the hell, I thought you would have told me as soon as I got here," Bonnie said making a face at her friend.

"I would have tell you but I have a lot of work to do. Bye! see you when I see you," Carylle hastily said as she stick her tongue out and run as fast as she can away from Bonnie.

Bonnie sighed as she looked at her friend's figure. She hurriedly went to her department and her boss who was shouting because of the annoyance and pressure being put in their department

"Bonnie, thank god you're here already!," Mrs. Ellie Han, Bonnie's boss and the architect responsible for the XYZ project said. Ellie was a middle aged woman who is very strict and professional with her work and the people around her. But, for Bonnie, her boss is someone who she looks up to because of her kindness, mastery, and passion for their profession.

"I just got here ma'am. What is the emergency all about?," Bonnie asked.

"Well, the XYZ Corporation has decided to change all of the designs last minute. Everything needs to be redesigned even though we've completed the designs they have stated earlier," Ellie replied nearly breaking down.

"How can this be? How long do they gave us to complete the designs?," Bonnie's mind was so blank at the moment.

"They only gave us 3 weeks to do so. I don't know if we'll be able to live by then...we should start working now."

A week! are they even serious? Designing a building isn't easy as doing 1+1 in math. Bonnie thought that it would be impossible for them to create a design in 3 weeks.

Bonnie sat in her desk in the office and started doing her work. Oh this would be tiring as hell, she thought.

Phones ringing, keyboards clicking, people shouting, it was the situation in their office at the moment. Everyone was worn out and exhausted but they still continue to work on their case.

It was 9:30 in the evening and Bonnie was too focused on their designs and her work that she didn't even noticed how late it was. She have no choice, they have to work overtime because of their deadline. She looked around their office and saw that there are some who still stayed and continued to work. They were too workaholic, even though the deadline is near, you shouldn't overwork yourself too much or you'll burn yourself, Bonnie thought.

Bonnie decided to went home since she was sure that the same tiring day would happen again tomorrow so the best thing to do is rest. She was too exhausted because of the stuff her boss asks her. As an assistant, of course you'll be the one who tends to do most of the work.

At 9:45 pm, Bonnie arrived in their apartment with her husband just sitting in the couch watching something on the television.

"Hey," Bonnie spoke as she entered the door.

"Hey, you got home late today," Devon looked at his wife, his eyebrows furrowed as he was curious why Bonnie went home late. It wasn't likely for her to get home this late because of work.

"There was an emergency in the firm. We needed to rush a project for XYZ Corp.," Bonnie replied to his husband with a monotone voice. She was too tired to talk.

"I see. I have bought the toiletries you need earlier when I was on the way home. You look tired, you should take a shower then go to bed," Devon said staring at Bonnie. He noticed how haggard and tired his wife was. He continues to watch what was playing on the television.

Bonnie nodded to Devon's reply and went directly to the shower to freshen up. After taking a bath, she quickly drifted off to sleep.

The night went pretty well with no quarrels and no shouting. What they didn't know was that tomorrow will be a day they won't forget.
