Chapter 6: slipping out of hand (II)

Date: (Past) May 14, 2019. The day after and the girl in the elevator.

Ring ring ring.

The alarm just went out exactly at 6 in the morning. Bonnie and Devon was still mad at each other because of what happened last night but they decided to set their anger aside because it's a new day. Both of them have a little to no intention of talking it and clearing the things over. It was wrong for a couple to have unsolved arguments but it was normal for them to do.

"Morning," Devon first spoke breaking the silence between them.

"Morning, let's have breakfast together. I'll cook food today since I don't need to be at the firm until 9 am," Bonnie said lowering her pride for her husband. She has some hidden displeasure but she chose not to address it because she'll know what will happen next.

"Not today, I can't be late today. We have some business planning at 8 am so I have to be there as early as 7:15 or 7:30 am," Devon replied not looking at his wife's eyes. Yes, he was the kind of guy who has high self pride but he isn't someone who will just ignore someone just because of his issues.

"Is that so? Then, what time will you go home tonight?," Bonnie asked her husband so if there would be anything she'll need she could ask him earlier and not fight because of it again.

"I don't know maybe at around 8-10 pm." He stood up from the bed and decided to take a quick shower to prepare going to work.

She decided to make emends with her husband because she didn't want their fight to worse. She started having a bad feeling whenever they are fighting. She feels like sooner or later, they were going to explode if they don't try to fix and clear things out. But, she guess it was too late now, She thought he let go of what their issue were.

One thing that Bonnie would do was lowering her pride to make an understanding with anyone she had fought with but in Devon's case, he wasn't in it for this talk. He was a little bit selfish when it comes to this kind of topic, why? because he was always the one who everyone look up to so he never was the first one to do these kind of things.

Just as Devon finished taking a shower, his wife tried to make small talks with him again. He was still mad and annoyed because of the small matter last night so he just answered Bonnie with short replies.

At around 6:45 am, Devon went to work bidding Bonnie a goodbye kiss on the forehead but Bonnie can still feel the coldness in him.

"Be safe, Von. You call me if you need anything," Bonnie shouted from the hallway.

"Yeah. I will," Devon replied not turning his back from his wife. While, Bonnie, stared at his back troubled with Devon's demeanor towards her and her eyes full of worry.

He won't deny that he was still in a sour mood.

Since he haven't had his breakfast yet, he first stopped by at a cafe on the way to his work and buy some coffee and muffin for him to eat. Both their office was just near the apartment they rented so it won't take them long to arrive at their workplace.

When Devon arrived at his company, he was greeted by his colleagues as well as some of his admirers. Yes, he still has admirers since he was the same handsome and cool Devon from college. The only difference now was that, he was married.

He rode the elevator and while waiting for the elevator to reach the floor of his destination, he noticed a familiar woman staring at him. There was exactly 5 people in the elevator including him and the woman but what is it with him that got the woman stared at him? He wondered.

Ding! the elevator opened and guess what? The other 3 people went out on the same freaking floor. What a coincidence for him to be left alone with the woman.

The air around them was thick and was filled with awkwardness.

"Hi, I see.. we're both heading to the same floor," The woman stated, trying to break the discomfort around them.

"Ah yes..."

"I'm Erin. I just transferred here in the main branch," The girl said booming with confidence and firmness staring straight at Devon's eyes.

Erin was tall for a girl. Devon was around 6 feet tall yet the girl's height reached his shoulders. She was at the same height as his wife. Devon 's first impression was that she was the kind of girl who was always sure of what she was doing. She was like a boss in her own way, unlike his wife who was a bit timid despite being smart and resourceful.

Why is he even comparing the girl to his wife? He thought.

"Ah yes...ah my name's Devon Kim," He replied.

Erin stared at Devon and his sour demeanor. She thought, he was a bit cute but kind of distracted as well.

"Did you have your breakfast?," She asked. She low-key wanted to continue to talk to him since she was intrigued by his looks and character, not that she liked him.

"I haven't so I just bought something to eat," He retorted, while showing Erin the muffin and coffee he bought from the cafe.

As he showed the food, Erin can't help but noticed the ring on Devon's left finger. So, he's married? she thought. She was a bit saddened from the thought.

"Ah is that so?," Erin can't help of thinking any reply to him as she didn't expect such a young handsome man to settle down to soon.

Ding! the elevator then again opened on the 31st floor. This time, it was their turn to go outside of it.

"Then, I'll see you around Erin," Devon smiled softly before he turned his back to head to his designated table.

"Yes...I guess we'll see each other around..." The woman whispered, grinning while thinking about the man she was intrigued about and who the the girls has been gossiping about.
