Chapter 5: Slipping out of hand

Date: (Past) May 13, 2019. Small things started to get out of hand.

As their marriage continues, Bonnie and Devon were forced to continue to live with the same routine everyday. But around this time, they seem to misunderstand each other more and more. Quarreling became a part of their routine. It seems that every small talk they have leads to an argument.

They were both tired of working with the same position they got in the past 3 or 4 years. They were frustrated as to why they things didn't work out as they expected it to be.

At around 10 pm that day, Devon just got home from his work. It was another busy day for their company and he was just any other guy who wanted to just lie down and relax for the night, wanting some company who would help him relax as well.

Devon went inside their apartment. Their rented apartment wasn't that big but it wasn't small for two people. They have rented a 35 square meter home with complete facility. Bonnie and Devon have the means to buy a good apartment.

"Ughh...Jeez," He said as he sit and then lie down on the bed.

"You just got home?"

"Yep, I just did. I'll just lay--" Devon was cut of from what he was going to say.

"I was wondering if you could buy some shampoo and some toothpaste from the convenience store?," Bonnie said while wearing her bathrobe getting out of the shower.

"What? But I just got here. You should have sent me a message earlier or you should have bought it yourself since you were home earlier," Devon argued. He didn't want to go outside again and buy from the store at the end of the street. Though, it was just a block away, he was too lazy to do so.

"Von, I did some laundry earlier when I got home and I did clean the house. I just noticed that we were running out of soap when you got home and also, I don't know what time you're coming home so I can't text you," Bonnie debated. She was tired as well from working at the office and in the house too. She thought that the only thing her husband can help her relieve her exhaustion was to follow her command to buy some toiletries.

"Well I'm too tired from working more hours than you, Bon. We could just buy them tomorrow or buy them yourself,"

What the hell is this husband of hers saying? He weren't the only one tired here. She isn't some boss or supervisor in her firm who just pass the things to their subs and go home, I work too like a madman. Bonnie thought while glaring at the man who lazily browse his phone.

"The only thing you could do in this house is to follow what I ask you to do since I already do anything in here. What kind of husband wouldn't share his wife's burden?," Bonnie whispered loud enough for Devon to hear.

Devon was annoyed too. Bonnie was putting all the blame on him for wanting to rest and being able to.

"Let's get one thing straight here Bonnie, I work hard to make amend most of our needs and for us to have something to eat. I do give some share in this house too by giving you budget for what to buy for the month. All you have to do are the chores. It's freaking easier than working like a slave employee in the company," Devon merely raised his voice at his wife but he wasn't shouting. He was clearly irritated since he called his wife not by her nickname but her real name.

"What you don't know is I do work like a slave too. All I need for you to do is at least help me when I need you to," Bonnie tried to reconcile with her husband with a soft voice. She doesn't want to fight with him again and again.

Devon just shrugged what Bonnie said and just walked out of their bedroom. This night was yet just another normal night for them both. Both of them thought, it will be fine tomorrow. They slept at the same bed with their backs facing each other. Without saying a word, they closed their eyes and succumb to sleep.
