Chapter 8

Declan scanned his eyes over the waitress and found himself annoyed. He had work to do, and she complained because she was bored. He rolled his eyes and grabbed a file off his shelf, then handed it to her.

“These are complaints that I received for the company. Kian printed them all out for me to go through, but honestly, I don’t care nor have the time. Read over them and see if there’s anything important or worth my time.” He said and returned to his desk to continue working on his employee’s salary.

“Okay,” Sienna replied and placed her stuff on one of the chairs in front of his desk and sat on the other. Declan glanced at her and shook his head. He expected her to leave, but she could sit here if she was quiet. He went back to work, and Sienna started reading over the complaints.

Many were about things he couldn’t control like staff complaints, slow internet during bad weather, being put on hold and issues not being solved straight away. A lot of complaints were repeated as well. Sienna read over the problems quickly and noticed Kian even translated the ones that weren’t in English. One problem seemed to be worth the billionaire’s attention.

“This complaint…” Sienna broke the silence and continued to say, “states that a branch in Kabukicho, Tokyo is forcing customers to lay down a deposit for the solar power that FosterA provides.”

“What! Let me see that.” Declan stated and took the page from Sienna. He read over the complaint and was furious. The solar panels were supposed to be free of charge for poor areas with no electricity. That was his whole companies aim! To help poverty areas and improve their quality of living. Now the manager of this branch was exploiting the communities money.

“I’m going to kill that cunt!” Declan hissed and shouted for Kian, who quickly ran into the office. “Get the head of Tokyo on the line now! I don’t care if she’s asleep at this time; wake her up!”

“Yes, sir,” Kian nodded and hurried out of the office.

“Will the manager be fired?” Sienna asked as Declan tried to calm his anger.

“Fired, sued, thrown in jail! I don’t care. That cunt has put my company name in the gutter.” Declan snapped. Kian returned with a phone and handed it to Declan. Sienna quietly sat in the office and listened to the billionaire yell at the person on the phone. His temper scared her, and she hated how violent he sounded when angry. It turns out, the head of the Tokyo branch had not known about this incident and said she would sort it out immediately.

“How did you not know? Do you not know how to manage the employees under you? Fix this and refund the people at once. Then when you’re done, fire everyone below you that is supposed to run the company and call me, so I can fire you as well!” Declan yelled into the phone and hung up.

He threw the phone against the wall, and Sienna jumped in her seat. Declan then tried to focus on his breathing like the therapist suggested and closed his eyes. A gentle hand touched his arm, and he looked at Sienna. All his anger went away when she touched him, which was something Declan hadn’t experienced before.

“It’s okay.” Sienna softly said to comfort him. Declan glanced into her eyes and found peace for the first time in his life. It scared him, and he shoved her hand away without thinking.

“I’m going to smoke,” Declan mumbled, then walked out of the office. Sienna watched him leave and felt hurt that he didn’t accept her comfort. She went back to reading over the complaints and wondered why the billionaire had such horrible anger issues.

Declan walked over to the balcony on that floor and stared at the traffic that drove past. It was late afternoon now, and people were probably heading home after work. He took out the box of cigarettes and placed one between his lips. A soft breeze blew past, and instead of lighting the cigarette, he put it away. He could still feel the waitresses hand on his arm and couldn’t understand how she calmed his anger with a simple touch. He didn’t even thank her for finding the complaint and wondered why Kian never bought it to his attention. He thought it over for a while and remembered the assistant’s words a few months back.

“Sir, there is an issue in Tokyo about….” Kian tried to say.

“Just put it in the complaints file. I’ll get to it.” Declan cut in.

“Sir, it is important,” Kian replied.

“I said I’ll get to it!” The billionaire snapped and stormed off.

Declan sighed and wished he would listen more when others spoke. He cracked his knuckles and rubbed over the scabs. He had been in many fights with a wall and broken lots of bones from people that made him angry. He was scared that the waitress would fire him up and he would hurt her again. She still hid the bruises on her neck with Aaron’s scarf, and he wondered if her neck hurt.

He walked back into his office and picked up his laptop and a few documents.

“I think we should go now. You can see your new home.” Declan stated and then went to go tell Aaron they were leaving. Sienna followed after him and then climbed into the car after Zem opened the door for her. They drove towards a white mansion that was on the beach shore, and Sienna was amazed. She thought the hotel in Samjiyon was the best place she had ever seen, but it was no wear near Declan’s home. She felt both excited and nervous as the car came to a stop. Sienna was poor her whole life and didn’t fit in with this wealthy lifestyle.

She wondered if Declan would realise it and send her back to North Korea. Perhaps that was his plan after the baby was born. Keep his child and send Sienna back with the bag she arrived with. She tried to not think of her future and took every day as it came.

A butler opened the door and greeted them as they walked up to the house. He took their bags and walked off as a lady greeted them next.

“Welcome home, sir. I have a cold beer waiting for you and Mr Wohoon in the study.” The lady smiled.

“This is Mrs Grace; she keeps the household running,” Declan stated. “Thank you, Mrs Grace. Will you give my new wife a tour of the house? Aaron, follow me.” He added and walked off.

Mrs Grace offered Sienna a sweet smile.

“Congratulations on the pregnancy, Miss Sienna. I want to tell you that I think it’s courageous that you doing all this for your family. I know Mr Declan can be difficult sometimes, but he has a good heart. He’s always had a temper, even when I worked for his foster parents.

“You know about the contract?” Sienna asked, surprised.

“I know everything that happens in this house. It’s my job. Don’t worry, Miss, only a few know the truth.” Grace replied.

“I… didn’t know Declan was adopted.”

“Uh yes, since the age of 4. A sad story, really.

“What happened?”

“That’s not my story to tell. Mr Declan will tell you; eventually, I’m sure. This is the dining room.” Grace stated as they walked in. She led Sienna all around the house, which was beautifully decorated. Grace was sweet and told her a few stories of each room. She explained that Declan hired a professional interior designed to decorate and hoped Sienna liked his style, which she did.

“Who is this lady?” Sienna asked and stared at a painting of a beautiful woman next to Declan. She had beautiful wavey cinnamon red hair and striking blue eyes.

“Oh, that is Miss Aideen. Declan’s younger sister.” Grace responded and smiled at the picture. Sienna was mesmerised by his sister’s beauty and wished she could look even a slight bit as good as Aideen did.

“She is gorgeous,” Sienna whispered.

“Yes, poor girl had a difficult life. She fell pregnant at 16, and her boyfriend at the time beat her until she had a miscarriage. The boyfriend died earlier this year, and if you ask me, he deserved it.” Grace added, then continued the tour. Sienna’s heart broke, and she placed her hand on her stomach. No wonder Declan hated her when she tried to have an abortion; he had to watch his sister go through all the pain of losing her baby.

“This is your room, Miss.” Grace smiled and opened the door. Her room had a massive double bed with a desk next to it. 2 extra chairs looked out the window and had a view of the ocean. There was an aircon in the corner and massive wooden built-in wardrobes.

“Two women filled up the wardrobes for you earlier, and if you open this door, it leads to a bathroom.” Grace explained and opened the door. The bathroom had a massive bathtub and was decorated with mirrors and plants. Both her room and even the bathroom were gorgeous.

“Thank you, Grace.” Sienna smiled and noticed her bag was also on the bed.

“Can I help you unpack Miss Sienna?”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll do it but thank you for asking. Will Mr Declan also stay in this room?”

“No, Miss. His room is next to yours.” Grace shook her head, and Sienna felt herself relax. “You can settle in, Miss. I stocked the mini-fridge with juice and snacks for you. Dinner will be in an hour. If you need anything, just press the button on the intercom.”

“Do I need to dress up for dinner?”

“I think Mr Declan will like that, yes.” Grace smiled then left Sienna to explore her new room.

She opened the windows and stared at the fantastic view. The sunset sat above the ocean, and the salty air blew in. She went through her new wardrobe and felt overwhelmed by the fabulous clothes. This was the first she ever had access to so many amazing outfits, and after a quick bath, she decided to wear a white skirt and gorgeous lace top. They were a bit big but looked great on her. She used makeup in the bathroom and made her skin appear flawless. She was going to cover the bruises on her neck but instead decided to let the billionaire see what he had done to her. She simply just brushed out her hair and let it hang loosely.

For the first time, Sienna smiled at her appearance and thought she looked pretty. She took a picture and sent it to Kim, who replied with a row of heart-eyed emojis. With her newfound confidence, she sprayed herself with the perfume in the room and walked off to the dining room.

Declan laughed at Aaron as he made a joke as they waited for dinner to be served. The private investigator was a pretty decent man, and Declan believed they would become good friends. He noticed the waitress walk into the room, and both men stared at her. She looked stunning and mistook Declan’s frown as he saw the bruises on her neck. Sienna felt her heart drop as even when she thought she looked pretty, the billionaire still didn’t approve.

“Miss Chae-Soo, you look beautiful.” Aaron complimented, but it wasn’t his approval that she wanted.

“Did you like the house?” Declan asked and tried to keep his thoughts together as the gorgeous waitress glared at him.

“It’s stunning. Thank you for everything in my room.” Sienna replied with no emotion in her voice.

“I’m glad. You must make yourself comfortable as this is your new home. Please make sure Aaron accompanies you if you go down to the beach. Or if you leave the house at all.” The billionaire stated as his kitchen staff walked in with 3 plates. The smell of roast lamb and rosemary filled the air.

“Thank you,” Both Sienna and Aaron said as the plates were placed in front of them. There was also rice, gravy and sweet carrots on the plate, which looked mouth-watering.
