The moon and stars are both shining, and it's getting pretty late. At the time, Aki and Luna were lounging on the rooftop and enjoying the brisk wind. Aki thought of this as a date because it seemed romantic to just hug Luna from behind while gazing up at the sky. They would smile at one other and sway, humming some mysterious music. "The moon is beautiful tonight." Aki said as she looked the bright moon,  That renowned quote is from a well-known Japanese poet and is another method to tell someone you love them, but Luna isn't aware of that. "It's true, just like the stars." Luna said as she clasped Aki's hand.

"Say, if we'll be granted another life, would you still love me?" The short girl asked, she faced Aki and looked at her straight in the eye while waiting for an answer. "I will, and I will choose you over and over again, even if it's in the next life." The taller's answer made Luna chuckle.
"Promise?"
"I promise." Aki said as she held her closer.

Then, all of a sudden everything went black. Aki wakes up in an empty bed. She finds a letter near her, she picked it up and began reading it.

Dear Aki,

I know you're confused on why I'm not beside you. The truth is, I've been facing difficulties doing the simplest of things and I feel constant heart aches. Thus, it was somewhat alarming so I visited a doctor, where I discovered that I have coronary artery disease. My heart is hurting constantly. It turns out that I have stage three, which cannot be cured. The doctors warned me to say goodbye because I have a 90% probability of not surviving my upcoming surgery. So, to my love, my Aki, my everything. I love you. Every single moment of ours is something I always love. I love you more than life, remember when we used to hate eachother? Remember when we took polariods? I have put some of my favorite polariods of us in this envelope, please keep them safe as I love them. My surgery is scheduled at 3:40 am, what time is it for you now? The surgery is in the hospital a few minutes away from our house.

Aki, I just want you to know, I love you so much. I will always be by your side. One way or another. Remember when I said that if we'll be granted another life I'll be with you? I knew this was coming, so I spent extra time with you to prove my love for you. As always, you're my only one I will love in all these lives. As many times as we reincarnate, I'll always find you.

Aki looked for her phone and looked at the time. 3:30 am. She still has ten minutes, so she rushed to get dressed.

Aki was wearing her pants in a quick manner. Who wouldn't though? Her love is in a surgery and this may be the last time she sees her.

She got her car key and quickly went to the car. She found someone on the ground and her selflessness got to her, she went up to the person and asked them, "What's wrong?" As she bent down to get a better look at them. Their face seemed familiar. They quickly got up and what they did surely surprised Aki. She got stabbed. Now she knew who the mystery person is. It is the murderer everyone was scared of, he escaped. He let out a loud laugh and then quickly ran away.

Aki felt like all her memories were replaying in her mind. She managed to yell out, "Help!" as everything went black.

The only sound in the room was the tools clanging as the nurses put the tools back on the tray. The bleeding has continued for thirty minutes. Both  the main doctor and the other doctors who were assisting her were anxious. The heartbeat monitor abruptly beeped, breaking the silence. In absolute terror, the doctors observed the green line as it run straight.

"No! This must be broken." The doctor said, speechless. "Surely this is a joke, right? You have to be kidding me, right?" She repeated her question. "Dr. Chaeyoung, something must be wrong in here somewhere, right?" The girl hoped the other doctor could respond to her question.

"Dr. Miki, please stop that. Luna Aoki, time of death three fourty-nine..." The doctor stated making Miki's tears escape. They prepared theirselves to exit the operating room.

Miki was welcomed by Aki's mother and Luna's father as soon as the doors opened.

"I'm terribly sorry. I'm really sorry!" Right in front of them, Miki lost it. Chaeyoung attempted to stop crying by holding her breath and covering her mouth, but she failed terribly. "It's not your fault, Miki. Nobody is at fault." While hugging Miki, Luna's father, who was on the verge of tears, spoke. 

"Where's Aki? I can't face her anymore." Miki asked while she choked a sob.

"She's gone." Chaeyoung said as she saw another doctor exit Aki's room. She'd seen the straight green line as she began to sob. 

Luna's mother, Aki's father, and a couple of Aki's friends found the doctor. They asked whats wrong and everyone dropped, cried and couldn't move after hearing the words came out of the doctors mouth.

"I am very sorry to inform you that Aki didn't make it." The doctor spoke, looking directly at Aki's parents. "Time of death, three fourty-nine."

"You know, they say that people who know each other and pass away at the same time are destined to reincarnate as lovers in the next life. What a shame their lives ended so soon, but I guess they were truly meant to be, even though their book hasn't been finished. It's a new chapter, and the ink has just been renewed. I hope they have a safe journey." Miki said as the others agreed.

Aki had just woken up and saw Luna beside her, they decided to sleep in the car with their windows open. 'It's three fourty-nine, it's still early.' Aki thought as she got comfortable again and went back to sleep. She had another dream.

Aki wounded her... But she herself knew she won't be able to control her if she let her remain here any longer. She's certain she'd kiss her. She's the one who made her cry, thus it saddens Aki to see Luna crying. She is also the cause of her sobbing, though. They're both are crying because of each other, hurting each other. Luna cover her mouth with her hand as soon as she close the door to stop her from sobbing aloud. After two years of dating, Aki chose to cheat on Luna by sleeping with her own friend?

'She really wasted us in such a way, I couldn't believe it...' Luna thought as she stood there.

She keeps banging on the door, but Luna simply did nothing. She simply left her alone. "Open this door, baby! Please, let's have a talk. Together, let's resolve this as we usually do!"

'Really, Aki, can we?' Luna took a hesitant step towards the door. Luna tried to speak to her by opening her mouth. She tried to speak, but nothing came out. It seems like her voice is completely gone. She's practically unable to communicate at this time. "Luna... please." When she once more heard Aki's vulnerable voice, she almost gave in. She almost let herself open the door because she's so desperate to give her a hug right now. She wiped her tears away as she laid her forehead on the door. Aki couldn't hear Luna crying, she made sure of it. Luna's also aware that she is also crying on the other side. Every now and again, Luna hears Aki choking on her own tears.

Unexpected thunderclaps can be heard, and the rain is heavily hitting the windows. When the lighting strikes, it briefly illuminates their gloomy shared house before disappearing.

"I love you," Luna can still hear her saying that despite the torrential rain in her most unstable voice. 'What does I respond to that with? Must I have high hopes? Ought I? I love you too. I wish I could say these words to her, but why am I unable to tell her directly? Is it because I was aware that she was now secretly seeing someone else? Is it as a result of her new partner? Are those four words going to stop being important to her? Is that the true reason my voice is against me?'

She lightly touched the door with her trembling hand. She's seeing herself petting Aki's prickly cheek. In anguish, she tightly closed her eyes. "...I do, always. I always love you." She cried again, but this time Luna was very quiet. 'Why do I keep falling for her charming lies? Why can't I take this as a lesson?' Her back is against the door as she reclines on the chilly concrete floor. Luna sobs so hard that her face is buried in her palms out of despair for Aki to not hear her. 'I'm at the end of my physical strength. It is quite chilly outside. Under the door, I can feel the frost coming in. I really want to yank her into my dark, cozy home. Can Aki endure this coldness?'

She once admitted to Luna that she despises rain the most because it is a bad weather. The clouds seem to be sobbing. They are crying and shouting throughout the thunders.

After then, Luna was unable to hear from Aki any more. She is missing. 'She's still here, with me, right?

I guess she left me.'

She was startled out of sleep by the loud thunderstorm she heard. She was unaware that she was lying on the chilly floor with her back to the door. "L-Luna.. Are y-you there?" She sounds so worn out when Luna heard her trembling voice. Luna didn't say anything and remained silent.

Luna just put her ear to the door and paid close attention to what she will say next. "Or did you already go to bed?"

"Oh, it's already dawn at three. It's really past time for bed." She goes on. Her laughter was so low that Luna could almost not hear it.

"If you're still here, though. Just a quick note to say... I'll let go of you if that's what you want. Whenever you're content, I feel ten times more content. But when I witness you suffering, it hurts—especially if I'm to blame."

'Should I open this door, my love?' Luna thought.

Biting her lip, Luna gently raised herself to her feet. She tightly clutches the handle in her hands. She tries to resist the urge as she rests her forehead on the door. 

"Please eat healthily, Luna. You have been getting thinner over the last few days, I've noticed. I'm sorry, but I'm no longer able to look after you."

'Are you going to leave? Please don't leave me. Yes I'm mad because you misused my trust in you, but I still need you. Please stay.'

"I'm not the person you should be with. a person who wouldn't lie to you..." Aki sobbed as Luna silently turn the doorknob slowly without yet opening it. Aki was shaking it, too, but faintly.

'I waited for her once again, hoping that she would speak. Aki , at least say something.

Nothing.

I let go of the knob finally.

I guess she's finally left. With nothing to say. I give up.'

Luna turn and silently shuffle away from the entryway. She sighs and wipes away her dried tears.

Luna suddenly overheard Aki murmuring something in an inaudible tone. However, she was unable to fully comprehend, thus Luna missed it. Her dull footsteps are audible to Luna. It's beginning to disappear.

'No! Please stay!'

Luna sprinted to the door and finally mustered up the courage to open it. But when she opened the door, Aki was gone. She has left. "I'm sorry." She said as Aki was walking away to save herself.

'Do you visit nightclubs anymore, Aki? You frequently visit there anytime you need to escape your problems. 

I'm in pain.

Do you too feel pain? Or am I the only one?

I truly hope you are, as I don't want to feel this way by myself.

If we ever have the same thought at the same time, I wonder. Do you feel bad for cheating on me?' Luna thought as she was getting home from a party. And Aki saw her walking alone. Aki wanted to help.

"In this area, especially at this time of day, it is difficult to get a taxi. You shouldn't walk alone because it is chilly and unsafe. Are you certain?" She seems so stubborn, Aki sighs. She still exhibits that personality feature. She comes to a stop once more and faces the ground.

Luna is playing with the snow nearby by treading on it. Aki's aware that she is considering it. "Please? For one time only. I won't disturb you again after that." Aki begs. Luna remained silent. Between them, there was silence. She gently looks across at Aki. "Fine." Walking toward me, she says in a tone that is still cold. When she eventually agrees, Aki grins widely.

'This is a step, right?' Aki thought as they both scurried into Aki's car quickly. In case she's cold, Aki turned on the heating for her. Aki's coat was thrown toward the backseat. "You smoke?" She's examining it intently while carrying a carton of smokes. 

"Y-Yeah..." Aki look away from her while correctly fastening her seatbelt. She overheard her sighing. "You ought to stop. It's detrimental to your health. Do you desire an early death?" She speaks directly. Aki was grinning inwardly. 'Does she still love me?' Aki thought as she was hoping it was a yes.

"Your house?" Aki give her a quick peek before driving off. She is nodding while crossing her arms. Both of them are silent. They're simply driving along in quiet, which is unpleasant.

"How are you doing? How is modeling going?" Instead of letting the song take over the conversation, Aki brings up her professional background. "I'm alright. Modeling is good; nothing significant occurred. Have you already gotten a job?" She lays her hands on her lap and begins to relax. She is focusing her gaze out the window.
'Luna, are you really that good? Without me? What made you do that? I'm curious as well.. I don't want to endure pain any longer. Tell me how you moved on.'
Aki giggles. "Yeah." She used to commute quite a distance to work. But now She's manage to secure employment nearby.

"So, um, where is your companion? Why were you by yourself?" At a stop sign, Aki brings the automobile to a stop. Aki fixes her gaze on Luna's beautiful side profile. "I have no idea." She said.

Aki decided to start the radio. 

"I was a liar, I gave in to the fire. I know I should've fought it, at least I'm being honest. Feel like a failure, 'cause I know that I failed you. I should've done you better, 'cause you don't want a liar." Was the song playing on the radio.

'Oh my, I forgot that I forgot to pause this song before going to our friend's house. I know this song very well. One of my favorites for such an unfortunate reason.

"Luna, why didn't you reply to my text?" Aki abruptly asks. She looks away from me with widening eyes. She saw that she was rubbing her arm. She made her uncomfortable, so no. She returned to focusing on the road. "I changed my phone number" She said as Aki slowly nods her head.' She's really making an effort to stay away from me, huh? I'm going to make "us" happen once more because I still believe in us. Luna, have faith in us—we'll overcome this together.'

She takes her phone out and unlocks it. She launch the "Contacts" app. "What's your number, then? I will save—"
"L-let's not keep in touch, please." 

"H-Huh? Can you repeat that?" Aki blinks her eyes as she alternately gazes at Luna and the road. She moves around in her chair. 'I must have heard that wrong.'

"Let's not keep in touch." With more assurance in her voice, she says. Is she now... being serious?

"Why? Are you in a relationship?" In anguish, Aki asks. Aki immediately felt her heart racing.

'Say no, Luna, please. Please refuse. I understand that you are unable to find a replacement for me, so just say no. I mean, we can get back together.'

She is, however, beaming brightly and slowly nodding her head. It's the happiest smile Aki's seen since they first met, or at least that's what she initially thought. 'Does she give you something that I don't have? No, I believe it to be 'everything,' not 'something.''

'So you've already moved on, huh? As I continue to miss you every day here. We are really grateful that we connected at the party.'

"Oh, congratulations! Stay content with her, right?" Bitterly, Aki said. Aki's right eye lets out a tear. Since Luna is seated to her left and the interior of the car is so dark, she was unable to see it. With the palm of her hand, she covertly wipes it. They're are really near her house. 'It is already in my field of view. Additionally, it implies that I won't be allowed to see you ever again. No, I want to remain with her for a little while longer. Please let me know if you're lying, Luna. You wouldn't say you love them.'

Let me know you missed me. I'll come to your arms after that.

I truly miss you every single day, so..'

"You're coping without me so nicely. I hope she's a good fit for you. I'm hoping she won't betray you the way I did. Really, she's a wonderful girl. I wish you all the best, Luna." Aki have a sour smile. She feel tears starting to well up inside her eyes. Aki raises her head a little to prevent tears from streaming down. She's looking down at her lap, and she overheard some quiet sobs. 'Luna's wiping her face, so I assume she's crying. How come you're crying? Luna, you no longer love me. Right? Stop giving me hope that I might ever get to be with you again. I'm beginning to lose hope...'

Even now, seeing her cry hurts Aki. To prevent her from noticing that Aki's crying too, she looks out the window. 'Why are you torturing me like this, Luna? I'm dying to kiss you right now. You, however, are no longer mine. Someone else loves you...' They came to an end of our little journey in front of her house. Finally, they're here. 'This is where our story will also come to an end. But Luna, if you could linger here a little while longer... Just keep listening to this song all the way through, please.' "Aki, thank you for the ride. Goodbye."

She unlocks the door and exits the vehicle. Aki approaches her slowly and exteds her hand. But now that she's too far away, she is no longer reachable...
'One last time... I need to be the one who takes you home.' The song was saying as Aki said, "Sleep well, Luna." Aki give her a grin and pretended everything is fine. There is still music playing in the background; the song has not ended. The song's final two lines were spoken in a whisper. Though barely inaudible, it is unmistakably present. When she shuts the door, the song finally comes to an end. She didn't even give Aki one final glance.

'Because you don't want to see me any longer, you said "goodbye." I said "goodnight" because I wanted to see you again. I soon started crying inside the car. My head keeps slamming into the headrest. Why couldn't you stay? 

Actually, this song is meant for you. only you. Why didn't you listen to it all the way? The song's ending has a lot of meaning for me. Understand why? Since it is also a message from me to you.'
