Chapter Eighteen— Abrupt Encounter I

Xavier's POV

"Come on, Xavier, grow up. You're physically mature but mentally childish".

"What? Ryan, all because I said I don't wanna go clubbing with you, you choose to insult me?".

He rolled his eyes and replied

"You and I both know you're trying to avoid the advances the ladies there make at you. You're just being too serious with your job and sulking in a corner, watching your life fly by before you. You need to get up, get out there and live your life to the fullest, man".

"Wow, I didn't know you became a therapist? I must admit, that was a good therapy session, but I'm not buying it. Sorry".

"Really? Xavier, really? Out of everything I said, my amazing therapy advice was the only thing you could grab onto".

"So you suggest going to the club and having fun with almost naked ladies, living my life to the fullest? I thought you were better than this, Ryan". I groaned and loosened my tie.

"Dude, don't blame me for having fun while you're being a nagging old man. You've been refusing to spend time with me, so I had to busy myself with something else". He defended.

"You're literally the CEO of a goddamn company, Ryan. You talk as though you have all the free time in the world and even so, you couldn't find anything better or more reasonable to do than being a playboy". I stated bluntly.

"First of all, I'm not a playboy, I'm a playMAN. There's a difference. Secondly, I love to utilise my free time wisely and this is the best way for me to do that. Thirdly, don't try to change the subject. You are going with me to the club, like it or not. This is for ditching me last time".

"Ugh Ryan, but I already got punished for ditching you, remember?".

His eyebrows furrowed in confusion before morphing into amusement. He chuckled

"Of course I remember. Apparently, you hit a lady's car and not just any lady, you had to go hit Lucifer's wife".

He burst into laughter.

"Oh God...it would have been so fun to witness...comedy gold...". He said in between his laughter.

"But well you're lucky she didn't curse you or anything. She gave you a chance and that's to never cross her paths again. When next you see her, you should probably thank her for sparing your life, that is if she doesn't kill you first". He said and started laughing again.

"Yeah, yeah, funny". I said and glared at him. He cleared his throat and tried to keep his laughter at bay.

"Whatever, yeah I agree it was a perfect punishment, but I still have to gain something from it other than laughing my ass off and that is getting you to finish what we started by going to the club with me".

"You really are bent on dragging me to this club with you, aren't you?".

He smirked and said,

"You should know by now that if I want something, I won't stop or back down till I get it. Besides, I'm doing you a solid, man".

"Ryan if I because of you, lose a contract, I'll make you regret it. I promise".

He rolled his eyes back at me and said

"You don't scare me, Xavier and matter of fact, it's the weekend, meaning you're off work and are allowed time for your personal life. You're just being too dedicated to your company. Now I'm tired of talking and explaining to you how to live your life, so get your old stinky ass off that seat and let's go!".

I leaned back in my seat, sighed tiredly and shut my eyes.

"I have no choice in this matter, do I?".

He shook his head in disagreement.

"Nope. No you don't".

"Alright, let me tidy things up first". I organised my files and put the important ones into my briefcase before getting up and walking out of the office with Ryan.

Tyson stood up as soon as he saw us,

"Tyson, I have to leave rather early today, you can also leave if you want to. If you have other things to do, you can take them home and finish up, we'll see on Monday. Anything I need to know about or clarify should be emailed to me, ok?".

"Yes sir. I'll be sure to do that sir".

"Good. Have a wonderful weekend, Ty and my regards to Martha and uncle Tim".

"Give my regards to aunt Martha and uncle Tim as well". Ryan also said.

"Yes sirs and have a wonderful weekend as well sirs".

We nodded and head into the elevator.

"Goodbye sirs". Tyson said and bowed slightly as the elevator doors slid shut.

We got to the ground floor and everyone said "Goodbye sir" to Ryan and I. We walked through the exit and Ryan said,

"I drove here so you'll have to tell Matt to drop your car at home and we'll go in my car to the club".

"What if you get drunk? Wait, scratch that, not what if, when you get drunk, who's gonna drive back".

He rolled his eyes again. You know at this rate, if he kept doing that, he would go blind.

"Do you still gotta ask? Obviously, it's you. I know you're not gonna get drunk, you'll just take about three shots and keep thinking about the contract you'll probably be signing a year from now. So...".

He put his arm around my shoulder and continued, "...my dear Xavier, you're the designated driver". He said while smiling like a Cheshire cat.

I looked at him weirdly and shrugged off his arm.

"Ugh whatever, let's just go".

I walked over to Matt and told him of our plans. He nodded, said goodbye and drove away. We got in Ryan's car and drove towards the club.

We arrived at the club and I checked the time to see it was 8:48p.m. We got out of the car and walked towards the bouncers.

"Good day sir King, sir Steele". He said and nodded slightly. We nodded back in reply. "You may go in sirs". Ryan was a regular customer at this club, at most clubs actually and we were billionaires, thereby giving us free access to the VIP room.

We walked in and weaved our way through the swarm of sweaty people towards the VIP room. We made it to the room successfully and thankfully, the walls were soundproof and the music blaring outside could be barely heard in here.

As we walked further into the room, I could hear melodious laughters. I looked around and spotted where the sound was coming from. I saw three ladies sitting on the red coloured velvet couch, laughing.

They appeared to be very close, probably sisters. I couldn't help but smile at the peaceful scenery before my eyes. Out of all three, I was drawn to the lady sitting in the middle. There was something about her that was so captivating.

I loved how close and carefree they all were. My mind went back to when I was a kid and how Javier and I were very close. I missed him a lot.

I didn't know how long I had been staring for, until the lady in the middle looked up and met my gaze. Immediately she did so, all the carefree and friendly glint in her eyes vanished like they were never there.

Her eyes appeared dull and lifeless but strangely familiar. She furrowed her eyebrows, looking as though she were trying to remember something. The memory of the night of the accident where I hit a lady's car suddenly came to mind.

My eyes widened in realisation and surprise. 'It's Lucifer's wife' my mind told me. I hurriedly turned around and walked over to Ryan. I sat beside him and started muttering,

"Shit Shit Shit".

He looked over at me confusedly and raised an eyebrow

"What's got you all riled up? Wait, don't tell me, their boyfriends caught you?". He asked in amusement.

I looked at him and said,

"What?"

"Oh don't deny it. I clearly saw you gawking at those ladies over there and I'm the playboy, uhn? You're the undercover flirt". He said and gulped down his drink. I ordered my own drink and gulped it down as well and immediately asked for a refill.

"But come to think of it, it's a good thing. I'm finally rubbing off on you". I groaned and he put his arm around my shoulder while patting my head with the other hand.

"Don't be shy, kid. You just gotta let loose and ask her. But never make a mistake of asking out a taken lady, dude. You're just gonna get beat up".

"Ugh Ryan, I'm not asking her out".

"Then why were you gawking at them? Wait...". He said with a confused face then his expression suddenly turned into shock. In a sudden movement, he snapped his head in my direction.

"Dude, You're gonna get whipla--". I said in concern for him but I was cut off when he shouted,

"You wanna have a foursome?!".

"What?! Are you crazy?!". I looked around and saw all eyes on us. Some with confused expressions, some irritated, and others amused. My eyes darted towards the three ladies and Lucifer's wife was giving me a death glare.

I looked back at Ryan and hit his head in anger and embarrassment

"Ow! Hey man, what was that for?" He asked in annoyance.

"For embarrassing me, you idiot. I know your IQ level is undeniably low but I didn't think you were that stupid. Seriously? A foursome? That's the conclusion your dumb brain could arrive at". I answered in anger and gulped down another drink.

"Well, that's what I could think of, dude. You can't blame me for trying to figure you out".

I glared at him and said,

"Really? So that's what you're gonna say, uhn?".

"Fine, I'm sorry, man".

I scoffed and replied,

"Yeah, like your stupid apology is going to take away the embarrassment I'm facing or clear the misunderstood notion or conception they now have about me".

"I'm sorry, dude. Really. Ok if this will make you feel better, then...". He suddenly stoo up.

"Wha- what are you doing? Ry? Ryan!". I whisper-yelled while trying to get him to sit back down.

"Everyone!". He started, gaining everyone's attention. I immediately turned around and hid my face, pretending to take my drink while muttering

"Shit! Damn you Ryan".

"I'm sorry for what I blurted out earlier. I just want to clarify the fact that my friend here was not planning to have a foursome or any kind of 'some at all. So you guys should not have any weird thoughts or notions about him, ok? Well, thank you for your time!"

He said and sat back down. He turned to me and gave me a thumbs up while grinning wildly. I groaned and shut my eyes, regretting ever coming here in the first place.

I glanced back at the three ladies and saw Lucifer's wife talking to the other two. I continued to look and she turned her stone cold eyes back towards my direction.

I looked away and gulped down my drink again. I turned and met Ryan's narrowed eyes directed at me, scrutinizing my face.

"What? Why are you looking at me like that?". He looked in the direction of the ladies and back at me before saying

"You're looking at them again, aren't you? Come on, Xavier, tell me what the deal is. You said you're not asking them out, neither are you having a foursome, so what is it?"

I sighed and rubbed my face. If I didn't tell him, he was going to do something irrational.

"Ok, but first promise you won't do something stupid".

He scoffed and said proudly

"When have I ever done something stupid?".

I raised an eyebrow at him, giving him the 'really' look.

"What do you call what you did a few minutes ago?".

"Well--".

"And remember the time during high school when you thought it was smart to dress like girls and hide in the girls' bathroom just to scare them".

"But that was--".

"Or what about the time you--".

"Ok ok. Fine, I may have done stupid things in the past, but I promise I won't this time, so tell me".

"Ok. So you remember the last time I mistakenly hit a lady's car?".

"Yeah, I can never forget that. It's hilarious everytime I remember it". He said with a laugh.

"Yeah yeah whatever. Well, she's here".

"What? You mean Lucifer's wife is here?". He asked in amusement while looking in the direction of the ladies.

"Hmm mmm". I hummed in agreement.

"So she's the one you've been looking at. Come on, show me, which one is she?". He asked while wiggling his eyebrows.

"The one in the middle". I mumbled in reply. He looked in their direction and asked,

"You mean the one with her hair tied up?".

"Yeah". I replied, refusing to look in their direction. He chuckled and turned to me.

"Looks like she remembers you too, seeing how she's glaring at you like she wants your head off your body". He said and laughed harder. I glared at him and he tried to stifle his laughter, of course failing miserably.

He mumbled a 'sorry' and I took another shot of my drink. He suddenly stood up and I looked up at him.

"Where are you going?". I asked.

"Come with me".

"Dude, no. Why would I come with you to the bathroom?". I assumed he was going to the bathroom.

"Ugh, who says I'm going to the bathroom? Just come with me". He said and wiggled his eyebrows. I squinted my eyes at him suspiciously.

"Oh no, no no no. No way. Never. Nuh-uh. There's no way I'm agreeing to this, never". I disagreed, finally realising his intentions.

"What do you mean? Do what?". He asked, feigning innocence.

"I know you want us to go to them, Ryan and there's no way I'm doing that".

"Dude, come on. I'm trying to help you. You can use this chance to apologise to her".

"After the warning she gave me? And all the death glares I've been receiving since we got here? No way. Nuh-uh".

"Dude are you scared of her? Woah so the Xavier King is scared of a lady?". He asked in amusement, clearly taunting me.

"I'm not scared of her, Ryan". I said, trying to dismiss the conversation.

"Then prove it. Follow me there and you can apologise, unless you're too chicken to do so". He smirked mischievously.

"Ugh fine. But I'm only going to apologise, that's all".

"Got it". He said, showing me the 'ok' sign. I sighed and reluctantly got up. We started walking towards them. Lucifer's wife, I really should stop calling her that, was busy with something on her phone.

The other two ladies noticed us coming toward them and the one sitting at her right crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back on the chair, while the other waved and smiled at us before nudging Lucifer's wife.

She looked up at the lady that nudged her before turning her head toward Ryan and I. Her icy, dull, lifeless and emotionless blue eyes were enough to send someone running away or peeing in their pants.

I also wore my emotionless face and we got to their table. She clenched her fists and her expression hardened even more if that was even possible.

"Hi ladies". Ryan greeted in his flirtatious voice that made women fall at his feet, his words not mine. But I was too busy lost in the deep icy sea of her lifeless blue eyes to even mutter a greeting.

We were both busy looking into each other's eyes to notice our surroundings, I was lost in the dark sea of her eyes. Her cold, emotionless, hard gaze boring into my emotionless ones. I couldn't help but wonder what secrets lied deep inside the icy cold, lifeless sea in her eyes.
