Chapter 20

Emily’s POV

I closed my eyes and shouted again, “Help!” The room currently surrounding me was dark and as far as I could tell, I was the only person in the room. My ankles were tied to the chair legs and my arms were tied behind my back.

In what felt like an hour that I’ve been shouting for help, nobody has replied or showed themselves. I tried to stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks and giving it one last try. My throat was burning and it was hard to swallow.

“Help, please, somebody help me!” With still no answer I could feel the tears finally roll down my cheeks. “Baby girl, you can shout as much as you want. Nobody is going to hear you.” I gasped at the sound of a gruff voice.

“Please, you have the wrong person,” I stated. My sore throat causing my voice to break between words. “Oh no, we have the right person, Emily Kloss.” More tears rolled down my cheeks. “Please, what do you want?

Before the gruff voice could answer, a more delicate one did. “I want revenge and you seemed like one of the ways I could get it.” This time I knew it was a woman that answered and by her accent, she didn’t sound Russian at all.

“Revenge?” I mumbled. “Yes, Revenge. You can’t give it to me but I’ll definitely hurt him by doing something to you.” Nails gripped my chin. It was so dark in here that I couldn’t even see who was standing in front of me.

“Him? Him who?” The sound of laugher filled me with fear. It wasn’t soft or delicate, it just sounded wrong. Like someone that was broken inside and filled with anger. “Your pretty little mob boss. He hurt me once and now, I’m going to hurt him by hurting you!

I frowned, mob boss? I didn’t know anyone that was a mob boss, “No you have the wrong person. I don’t know anyone in the mob.” The sound of heels clicking away stopped. “He hasn’t told you? Maybe you don’t mean that much to him after all.

“Please, let me go. I can’t help you” I tried to negotiate my release once again. The woman laughed again, “No. You might not be important but little Alexei would never forgive himself if something happened to an innocent woman just because he slept with you.

I gasped at the air around me. Alexei? No there was no way. Nothing about him indicated danger. He was sweet, good in the sack and there was no possible way that he could be in the mob much less the Mob Boss.

“He slept with me too you know… I thought I meant something to him and then he left. And when he saw me again, he couldn’t even remember my name. I was just a conquest, another notch to his bedpost. I hope for your sake, you didn’t fall in love with him.

The sound of heels walking away stopped me from answering. The air around me was cold and silent and I knew that the woman left the room. My wrists were hurting from the rope and my legs had pins-and-needles in them. In the silence, I could finally hear a door open. I was soft and barely made a squawk but I could hear it.

A glass of cold water was pressed against my lips and I drank every last sip and wanted some more. Only after drinking it, did I worry about what could have been in the water. It tasted normal but even I knew there were drugs that would taste like nothing in the water.

A cold hand ran a finger down my forehead. “You poor girl, you’re so innocent. By only by hanging out with someone so dangerous, you were put in a situation that we both know you didn’t belong in.” It was the same gruff voice from earlier but this time, it was almost soothing.

I could feel the darkness creeping back in. All I wanted to do was close my eyes, wake up, and hope this was all a nightmare. I hoped to wake up with Alexei next to me and to tell me it was all a bad dream.

“Smile pretty girl.” I blinked my eyes open at the strange voice. It was that man again. My eyes couldn’t stay open and my body was cramping with pins-and-needles. Finally, my eyes decided to stay open after the blinding flash of a camera.

“Why are you taking photos of me?” My voice was groggy and my throat was dry. The man in front of me smirked before bringing a glass of water closer to my lips. Without protest, I gulped down the inviting cold water.

“To answer your question, it’s for lover boy. This is like a before picture and then your death photo will be like an after. Mia will send it to Alexei after the dirty work is done with where to get your body.” I could feel the tears prick at the corner of my eye.

I was going to die, just because I was sleeping with the wrong person. I closed my eyes, but no regret flashing through my body. Even though sleeping with Alexei might kill me, I wasn’t regretting it. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I just wish that I could have told Alexei that, and even try to tell him that maybe it was his fault but he shouldn’t feel guilt.
