Chapter 14

Callie's POV

I could feel the anger radiating off of Adrian as he continued to look at Emily. I took a step closer and placed my hand on his arm, trying to provide any sort of comfort.

"Welcome back Adrian, nice to see you again." Emily sarcastically spoke, before turning her smug smirk onto me. She ran her eyes over me before glaring.

"Nice to see you again as well Callie, been a while. So I see you've decided to take up this mutt. I can't tell if you're either brave or just plain stupid." As she spoke those words I heard two growls coming from both Theo and Adrian. She rolled her eyes, not in the least bit intimidated by either of them. I didn't back down from her glare, until I felt a tug on my dress. Breaking Emily's challenge I looked down and saw my boys. They both looked at Emily curiously but still with caution.

"M-Mommy why is she so r-rude?" Payton stuttered out, looking up into my eyes. Emily's glare snapped down to Payton and just as she was about to speak Troy spoke.

"Enough of this please, I apologize for my wife's hostility. As you can understand she does not feel comfortable around the man who tried to murder her." He said, placing a protective arm around her. At the corner of my eye, I noticed how Adrian was twitching with fury. If this didn't stop soon, he was going to snap.

"Well, since you're all here, a few memebers will show you where you all are staying. And welcome to my pack-"

"This is my pack!" Adrian yelled, snarling at Troy. His eyes narrowed at the challenge Adrian showed, stepping forward. But before anything could happen Theo stepped forward and pushed Adrian back carefully. He looked at Adrian sternly before turning to Izzy. She smiled softly and turned to Troy.

"Theo says that he apologizes for Adrians behaviour and that it won't happen again." Troy nodded before turning and storming off, Emily following behind.

Adrian shoved Theo aside. Just as he was about to walk off, Payton and Trevour walked up to him and took his hands in theirs. They smiled at him before leading him over to me. He continued to look down at them, a small smile present.

"P-Please follow me." A member mumbled before turning around and walking away. He couldn't have been more than fourteen years old. I looked at Adrian and the boys and began to pick up our bags. I saw Adrian whispering something to them before they ran over and picked up their own bags.

"We'll help you Mommy, we're big boys!" Trevor smiled happily before running after the pack member, Payton in tow. I smile, shaking my head as I turn my attention to Adrian. I place my hands on my hips while playfully glaring at him.

"You know I can carry a few bags by myself." He winks before taking the last couple bags and heads off. I roll my eyes and follow after him, no bags in hand. We catch up to the boys and I smile as I watch them asking the young boy questions, after questons. Jarrod, as he had told us, seemed to relax after a while of talking with the twins.

He leads us through the main door and up a long spiral staircase. As we walk up, I notice all the pack memebers staring at us, more specifically Adrian. Some show fear, some show anger, but none showed happiness to see they're ex-Alpha. It was a sad thing really. Adrian had cared so very deeply about all of them, had gone through all the pain his father inflicted upon him, just to lead all of them. If I was brutally honest, they took him for granted. They decided to believe a women they had only known for a short period of time, instead of they're Alpha, the Alpha who had been leading them for a few years now.

I shook my head and turned away from the watchful eyes, turned away from the parents that told their children to hide behind them, turned away from they're hatred towards him. I knew he knew that they were watching, that they didn't want him here.

As Jarrod approached the last door down the hallway, he opened it. It was messy to say the least. It was like things had been thrown in the room and was immediately forgotten about. I was about to ask where my room was, but Jarrod said a soft farewell and walked off, leaving all of us there.

"Guess we're roomies." I said awkwardly, the boys running into the room and picking up a few broken items. I smiled but that faltered when I glanced at Adrian. He looked all around the room, and I saw it, I saw the heartbreak in his eyes, and the unshed tears wanting to fall.

"Boys, go to your Uncle Theo please." They looked at me questioningly but didn't argue and walked out. Once they were gone, I looked at Adrian again and watched as he picked up small items, some broken, some still intact. He stopped and kneeled down, looking into a box. I took a step closer before placing my hand on his shoulder. I watched as he clenched the box tightly in his hands before standing up and throwing it against the wall. I jumped back in time, looking at him in complete shock as he stared down at all the broken pieces.

"This is all your stuff isn't it." I whispered, finally releasing why he was acting like this. The tiny nod, told me that I was right.

"I never cared about all this junk, thats why I left it behind. But that box..." His voice broke off at the end and I watched as tear after tear fell, falling to the floor. He didn't move, just let the tears fall. My heart broke for him. Stepping closer I wrapped my arms around him and held him close to me. Only then did he move, wrapping his arms around me and let out his pain. Adrian cried out all of his pain, all of his anger. He had been bottling them all up and it had finally exploded.

Soon he had calmed down and I made him sit on the bed. He laid back and I stood up. Walking over to the spilled box I began to pick up the smashed items, and looked at them. They were all wooden models of wolves.

"I made them when I was younger. It was basically the only thing I could do without my Father yelling or hurting me. It took a couple years to finish them all, but just before I took up the role as Alpha, I was done. I had made an exact copy of each and every pack members wolf, and for the members who hadn't transformed yet, I made a model of the wolf they wanted." As he spoke, not once did he look away from the ceiling.

"And they just threw it away. They can't even stand the sight of me Callie. The way they had looked at me today. I thought I had let it go, that I could deal with the pack hating me...but I can't." He mumbled, no emotion present in those words. I glared down at the box before shoving it against the wall and stood up. I walked over to him and stood in front of him, my arms crossed.

"Adrian you are stronger than this. They decided to believe some girl instead of you, their Alpha. Now you are gonna stand up, and we're gonna walk out that door, head held high. I will not let those idiots break you down. Now come on, up you go!" I say, grabbing his hand and pulling him up. He groans but still stands. I make him look at me and give him a soft smile.

"Lets go find our kids." I say to him before dragging him out the door. We walk down the stairs, before reaching the bottom. As we do so, I hear a loud scream and a howl. Adrian and I look over at each other before immediately bolting outside. We run to where all the commotion is but before I can see what's happening, Izzy pulls me back while Theo  does the same to Adrian.

"What's going on?" I ask worriedly, looking at Izzy. The face she gives me, sends a shiver up my spine. Just as I'm about to ask her again, I hear a small cry.

"No.." I say, stepping away from her but she tries to hold me still.

"Callie.."

"NO!" I yell and push past people. As I get to the front, my whole world crumbles. I fall to the floor, tears running down my face as I see Troy holding him.

"I'm sorry Callie, I-I couldn't save him in time.."

He lays him down in front of me and I cry. My eyes immediately look at all the scratches, all the blood. I pull him close to my chest, letting all my pain out. He didn't deserve this. No one does. What had he done to deserve this? Who did this to him?

My Baby.

My Son.

My Payton.
