Tale Of Shadows

1. Ominous Clouds

Angelina Roscoe’s POV

Toronto, the biggest city in Canada. Millions of people live here with different cast and culture from all over the world. Like every other city, the people here engrossed in themselves so much that don’t usually notice any unusual thing.

I believe in unusual/supernatural things though it may sound weird. A modern girl like me believing in such things but the entire credit goes to my Grandma, who successfully engraved in my mind that there are things that human can’t see.

I love sunny days. I used to love rain too but not after something my grandma told me. Before the rain, comes black clouds that make the nature gloomy and create a lifeless or hunted atmosphere. Though the clouds make it only gloomy but other things are done by the things we can’t see.

They are super active in darkness. But now because of the miracle of electricity, you hardly will get darkness. The only thing that exists now is shadow.

I know I sound like an old lady, living in an old hunted house and thought to be a ghost herself. But I was fascinated by ‘The other world’, my grandma used to tell me hunted stories. Instead of getting afraid I used to request her to tell me more.

After her death, I wanted to be more engrossed in those and wanted to study paranormal things but my father was not mad like my grandma. He tried so much to make me understand that ‘there is no other life even if there is we shouldn’t interfere’.

That was the time I realized that my fate was sealed to be a businesswoman. Being the only heir of the Roscoe industry, I could not even think to be something else. I accepted my fate and studied business along with management.

It’s been two years since I took over the company. My parents were somewhere. They started their adventure journey after my father retired. It was their time for everything they wanted to do. I had no idea if they were going to turn up on my wedding day. I sent them emails and messages but didn’t get any reply.

I was feeling really weird but I shrugged it off thinking maybe it’s because of the rain. It wasn’t the time for rain but it’s pouring so hard. My fiance loves rain but I never had any good memory of it.

I was sitting in a meeting, thinking everything other than the motive of the meeting. I got bored because of the numbers and figures that I knew very well. It’s not my fault if others didn’t know about it because of their lack of interest.

I worked hard. Sometimes I didn’t even sleep but I was the boss and I had to work hard than my employees. The slides went on including the discussion. I gave my input and ordered them to work according to it. “You know when I want it done? In three days. I won’t hear any excuses. If any of you fail to do the work, say goodbye to Roscoe.

I saw them gulping whatever they suddenly had in their throat. I knew that I can be a witch sometimes but that’s how the business works, that’s how you become successful. Soon the meeting ended and they were free from the meeting but I was not.

I had a lunch meeting to finalize a deal. I was in the elevator going down to the underground parking lot. My life was going to change after the wedding. Things would become more hectic and complicated but I love my fiance and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. Even his thoughts bring a smile to my face.

I was busy daydreaming and I was not even halfway down when the elevator stopped and the doors started to slide open. I frowned as it was my private elevator. The sliding doors revealed the face of my not so favorite person.

Oh, God! Why him? Why now?

“What a terrible luck to see you, Hunter!

Hunter smirked and got inside the elevator. I hate it when people do not follow rules. That elevator was only for my VIP clients, my fiance, and for his father.

Why didn’t I already ban this idiot from my premises?

“Hey Angel,” I cringed. Just because my name is Angelina, most people try to narrow it down to angel or angie. I never liked those nicknames. I always preferred Lina. Like come on, I am anything but Angel/Angie whatever. “I had some work here and thought I can see you if I come here. See, the goddess is standing in front of me.” He gave a cheeky smile and I cringed. Normal Hunter was disgusting but flirty Hunter was a lot worse.

“Work? Since when do you work? You just waste others hard-earn money.” Rolling my eyes I looked at the floor numbers, wishing to get out of that box fast.

“Oh come on! I thought you already changed your mind. I don’t understand what you see in Roman.” He made an irritated face.

Did he just tried to... Again!

I stopped myself from slapping the sh!t out of him. He proposed me a deal of me leaving his lovely brother and we could be the power couple. Even after me slapping him that time, he was annoying me to think about it. “He is everything that you could never be. Intelligent, hard-working, loyal, handsome, and a gentleman. Everything aside, I love him.

“I feel so sorry for you. We could have ruled the world but your bad luck. Not everyone lives long to fulfill their wishes.” He shrugged as if he was not hinting at the death of someone.

“What do you mean?” The ominous feeling that I was trying to suppress made its presence known.

“Something. You are the most gorgeous woman I have seen in my life. Everyone is crazy about you and so do I but Roman ruined it all.” He shook his head sadly and walked out of the elevator after giving me one last lingering look.

My heart was hammering but I tried to shrug off the creepy feeling Hunter gave away. He was always creepy, talking in riddles that never made sense. I only tolerated that trash because he was the only cousin of my fiance, Roman and Roman was fond of him.

I walked towards my car and my chauffeur opened the door for me. I slide inside the car and sighed. I was already tired and that loser made it difficult. The car slowly left the building and I grimaced. The sky was too cloudy and it seems like the evening when it’s the only afternoon.

I was trying to calm my nerves. Today is a bad day, I thought and tried to take a deep breath.

My cell phone rang and I knew who it was because of the special ring tone. “Roman,” I breathed. He had this strange calming effect on me and he claimed that I had the same effect on him.

“Hey love, tired?” I heard his husky voice that would melt everything within me.

“Of course, I am tired. I am having a crazy schedule because of our wedding that is only one week away. Mom is also not here not even my friends who would help me with the wedding.” I had complained about the same thing countless of times but he never got annoyed or bored by it.

“I told you to leave everything to the planner. You don’t need to burden yourself too much. I didn’t appoint them to take care of the wedding only to make you worry more. And your clients can wait a few weeks for the deal to be finalized. Rest love, you are overworking your self.” Worry was clear from his voice and that made me smile.

“I want to be stress-free on our special day and in the vacation.

“Vacation? Honeymoon Lina, it’s called Honeymoon. Are you that shy to say it?” I didn’t want to yet I blushed and he was teasing me.

“Whatever, it would be vacation only. I didn’t go anywhere in these two years. And why would I be shy,” I looked at my chauffeur and whispered, “It’s not like we left anything to do on bed.” I could feel his proud smile. He loves it when I give it back to him.

“Damn you, Lina, I am already having a hard time controlling myself till our wedding and you are giving me indirects. We are ahead in everything. Remember we even decided our babies' names.” He continued to tease me.

“You mean you decided them,” I said rolling my eyes. He was the one deciding the baby names even when I told him that we had time for that.

“I can’t trust you women with it. What if we also have to tell our kids the embarrassing story of why their names match with a city or places? I still cringe whenever I remember my mother telling me why she named me Roman.” It was really funny as well as a toúche topic for him.

“Because she conceived you in Rome.” I laughed hearing him groan like a little child.

“Enough of this, I have a meeting in a few minutes. You just go and rest after the meeting you are going to attend. I will tell your assistant to clear everything else today.” He said sternly.

“But Roman-”

“No, but, or, and, else, anything. Just take a rest. I don’t want my bride to be tired or sick on our day.” I huffed like a child and was about to tell him that he was a meanie.

“Do you know you are so--” Before I could finish that sentence, I saw my chauffeur lost control of the car and the car went straight towards the barrage that divided the roads from Lake Ontario.

Everything happened so fast that I didn’t have time to think anything. The only thing I had on my mind was that I was going to die. I could hear Roman shouting over the phone. Before I could do anything, the car broke the barrage and went straight down to the water.

The last thing I heard was my scream and after that, I was drowning.
