CHAPTER 7: THE BOOK

CHAPTER 7: THE BOOK

I am still thinking if the twin brother he is referring to was the man we met in the mall.

He looks like him. Could he be or maybe I was just imagining things again? I did not even look closely to that lawyer. How sure am I that they have the same faces?

“Why do you keep on bubbling?”

I was a bit stunned to look at Sisa who just came out from her room.

I slowly look at the place where I am standing only to find out that I am already inside my room.

Yes, I built a small room inside my room for Sisa.

“Oh!” I cannot find the right words to say.

“So, were you able to do what your father asked you?” She sits on the couch while she asks.

“Y-yes. But you know there is something that’s been bothering me.” I seated beside her.

“And what is it?” She looks at me this time and patiently waits for my answer.

“I think I saw the man we met in the mall,” I said.

“Where? Did you go back to that place all by yourself? Hades will hang me.” She slowly touched my hand and hold it tight.

“No, I did not. I think I saw him here,” I answered.

“Where? Here? Are you sure?” She stood up suddenly.

“Did he die?” I can feel her tense. I know that feeling. I felt it a while ago when I look at his face.

I do not know if I should feel happy or sad about him being here. Knowing that he is already dead and thrown in the underworld for taking his own life.

“B-but why here? I thought he was a good man. You said, he even offered his help to you, am I right?” Sisa is a bit emotional by the way she asks me.

“I am not sure if it was him. He said he has a twin brother and he did not recognize me.” I answered as I face the window to watch the burning pit.

“You know for a fact that he won’t be able to recognize you here, don’t you?” she reminded me.

I took a deep sigh as I remember what she said. Yeah, no soul would be able to recognize me here even if we became friends in the human world.

But a soul who escaped from the underworld goes back to the living world they would be able to recognize me. Even from afar. Some say my footprints says it all. They would be able to see my footprint as fire on the ground.

I do not if it is true. I have not seen any soul escaped from here. And if there is one of them, I don’t think I’ve met him in the human world.

I have not seen any human running away from me in the world of the living. It was always the other way around.

“Should I met him for you?” Sisa asked as I felt her walk towards me.

“Do you want these souls to engulfed you alive?” I asked.

No living thing can survive in the underworld. The monsters here are always looking for something to make them stronger. Which means eating the soul of the living. That is why some of the living souls that roam around in their dreams can barely go back to their bodies in the human world.

Either they lost their way around here or their souls are already engulfed by the monsters of the burning pit.

“How many souls have you tossed in the pit?” she asked casually as she put down a cup on the center table.

“I don’t know, I lost count.” I took the cup and take a sip.

“Hades would be very happy then,” she said.

“I hope so. So he’d stop bothering me.” I took the last sip of the tea she made.

“Do you want more?” She stood up and take and my cup from my hand.

“No, I want to lie down a little. You should take a rest.” I turn my back to her and walk towards my bed.

“I want to watch more. I’ll sleep later. Good night, Lucy!” She excitedly walks towards her door.

I lay down my back on the huge bed that I and Sisa bought five years ago.

My eyes started to roam around my room. Originally, my room is as dark as a dungeon. The motif is black and red. I did not bother me for the past five thousand years of my existence.

I always wanted to change the curtains almost every day. From red to black and from black to red.

But when Sisa came to me and started living with me. That was the time she showed me what a girl in my age room should look like. Oh, I mean a twenty-year-old girl.

That is when my room’s motif became purple, white, and pink.

Hades has seen it many times but he did not bother to change it or ask me to turn it back to how it used to be.

Sisa taught me how to clean up my room. How to dress up properly and how to talk properly.

Sometimes my words still got out of my hand. But what can I do? I am my father’s daughter. Thought I heard Hades curse at times. But his curse always means death.

Hades would always remind me to take responsibility for my words. My word could kill an innocent soul.

And if I happen to bring an innocent soul in the underworld, he will trade me to heaven.

I don’t know if that should creep me out. Maybe it creeps him out, thinking that he will live there.

“Lucy, would you like to watch it with me?” I heard Sisa’s voice in my room.

She’s still inside her room but I can hear her even if she’s mumbling.

“No, I’m fine. I don’t like the leading man.” I even smile with what I told her.

I took a book under my pillow and started to read. But I cannot forget the face of the man I am with a while ago.

So I slowly touched the page of the book I was reading and an image was shown.

It was the man a while ago. This is my first time to stalk a man using my power.

“Why is he crying?” I mumbled.

My heart melts as I saw him wipe his tears with the back of his hand.

I look at the thing he’s been looking at only to see a woman’s picture.

“Was it the woman she got pregnant?” I utter.

“Tsss!” I closed the book immediately.

“What’s good with a woman who cheats? Tss!

I think I am pissed seeing him hurt by that woman in the picture.

I do not know what I am thinking but I am eager to make him mine.

I am so much pissed. I did not realize how angry I am until I saw the book I am reading is already in flame.

I had to shake my hand for it to disappear or I might burn down my room.

I grab my pillow and bit it hard when I remember that I am not yet done reading the book that was burned.

What the? Now I have to buy another one.
