Chapter Six

MAVIS couldn’t help but stare at Mr. Dela Vega. He was inches taller than her. She was five-seven and his height was not included in the portfolio but she assumed that his height might be six foot-something. She also believed that the suit he’s wearing was made for sin. It clearly showcased her new boss’ excellent physique. Rush Dela Vega obviously has an eye for fashion. He looks like he came out of a GQ magazine because of the navy blue suit that was paired by a polka dot silk-twill tie outfit. Is he wearing Ralph Lauren or Armani?

From his attire, Mavis looked up. She was hit by one of the most electrifying dark brown eyes she had ever seen. Everything about her new boss screamed sin. That’s why she can understand why there are a lot of his former executive assistants dreamt of being his lady love.

“Satisfied, Miss Policarpio?” he asked in his cold tone.

Sh*t!

“Good morning, Sir—Mr. Dela Vega. I was trying to figure out if you’re wearing Ralph Lauren or Armani,” she said trying to hide the fact that she was ogling him.

I will not admit to my ogling.

“Neither. It’s custom-made by my favorite local tailor. Did you not read what was written in my portfolio? Most of my suits are custom-made here,” he answered, then he walked towards his office. She immediately followed him.

“Most of them are. That’s why I was curious about the brand you are wearing,” she replied.

He stopped walking and he seemed to be surprised about what she said. “Are you trying to be sassy with me, Miss Policarpio?

Mavis’ eyes widened. “No, Sir. I’m merely stating a fact. Anyway, this is your shortlist,” she immediately said so that he wouldn’t be mad. Then, she handed him the shortlist. “Your coffee’s on your desk already. I’m still waiting for your breakfast delivery though. I’ll call them up again for a follow-up.” It would be better for her to be honest than for him to expect and be mad in the end.

“How about my crossword?

“It’s already in your desk,” she politely said.

Mavis was waiting for his reaction. If he’s going to praise her, but nothing came. The guy just nodded his head then he went straight to his office.

Mavis went back to her small office in front of his. She was about to call Silver Palace when her business phone beeped once again. Cindy sent her a text message saying that the breakfast delivery of her boss has arrived. She breathed a sigh of relief because of that.

She knocked on Mr. Dela Vega’s office when the breakfast delivery arrived on their floor. She caught him answering his crossword puzzle that’s why she just placed his food on his table.

“Miss Policarpio, shuffle the scheduled site visits today. One thing you must remember is I’d like to always make a surprise visit on the businesses I handle, so that I would know if my employees are a hundred percent dedicated and committed to their work. I don’t want them to get used to the schedule of my visits. Otherwise, they’ll only show me what’s good. Understand?

Oh!

“Yes, Sir, Mr. Dela Vega.” She still doesn’t know how to address him.

He looked up at her. “Mr. Dela Vega will be fine.

“Noted, Mr. Dela Vega. Anything else I can do for you?” she asked him while smiling.

He frowned. “Nothing. Just be ready for today.

Rush,

I haven’t heard anything from you or from Mavis today. Should we be worried?

Daye,

She has yet to make a mistake. So I think it’s safe to say that she’s better than the previous ones. Did you make her go through a medical exam though? She looked too pale. If not, please subject her for a medical exam ASAP.

You know how I’m the type to always thrive to prove people wrong? Right now though, I want to make sure that my new boss has nothing to say about me. I feel like he’s really going to be a challenge. It’s just my first day and I can already feel him being a monster with work. Talk about being super workaholic. In between intakes of his breath is work.

My body clock was so messed up today. I forced myself to adjust to a day shift. My head was already in pain the whole day. I really thought that I would be dizzy earlier. And I also couldn’t eat properly all day. One time earlier, I thought my bladder would burst because I don’t know how I would ask for permission to go to the comfort rom. My boss has been calling me from time to time. And we’ve been travelling from time to time because he’s visiting every office that’s under the DV Corp. My boss seems to have an OCD and trust issues.

And don’t get me started on his freaking revisions! I can’t help but pity the other employees because he’s been asking them to revise the contracts and the proposals that they’re sending to him. He’s painstakingly very precise. Even with the way his food is cooked. My gosh! I have never met a guy that is a picky eater.

I’m really having a culture shock in my first day of work! If I get sick, please send me a box of macarons.

P.S. I hate that he’s too good-looking though.

Remember that you’re also the type to face a challenge head on (except when it comnes to love life, though.) But why do I have this feeling that you just don’t want to be outdone in being a workaholic? Have you finally found your match?

Take care of your health. Take a rest. Pack foods and snacks. Make sure that there’s always food inside your bag. That’s what I’m doing whenever I have photo shoots. And what are you even saying? You’re used to being ahead of your bosses before. You can do it! It’s you we’re talking about!

I know how kind you are, Mav, but please know your limitations. If you’re already doing a lot of work, don’t try and shoulder other people’s job just because of pity, okay? The lot of you are all just working the same. Try to be selfish sometimes, okay?

I’ll send you a box of your favorite brand of macarons tomorrow! J

I TOLD YOU HE’S HOT! ;)

I’m really not going to let him beat me. Hmp!

I already bought snacks earlier. I’m just really thankful right now because we have a luncheon meeting tomorrow. Free food!

I know. My gosh, with just my boss I’m already busy.

Thank you, love! x

Office romance is a no-no for me, remember? Besides, he doesn’t strike me as a relationship type.
