Chapter Four

RUSH has no plan on ever getting married even though he’s already thirty-two years old. He still hadn’t had a girlfriend yet. His sole focus is the company. Ever since he was a teenager, he’s already working in the company together with Axe and Tyler. They were groomed to be the next CEO at a very young age. Who else is going to continue the legacy if it’s not him and his cousins? And besides, he doesn’t want to be hasty when it comes to marriage. He did not want to be in a similar fate like his parents back then.

What his parents had was a whirlwind romance. They both met in Ibiza. They fell in love at first sight and got married. The love didn’t stick through the end though. The two of them had an annulment and they chose to lead separate lives after. Their mother died of cancer ten years ago while their father died from a car accident. The two of them didn’t get to experience true love because they were too hasty with their relationship.

Going into something you’re not a hundred percent certain only leads to regrets and disappointments. Rush didn’t want to experience that. It will only be a total waste of time.

Rush’s cell phone rang which cut off his reveries. He couldn’t help but let out a curse when he saw his cousin Axe requesting for a video call. Maybe he has nothing to do in his office again. If so, Rush was sure that Axe was pestering Tyler as well. And when he ignores his call, he’s just going to call again. So, Rush almost had no choice but to answer it.

“How many times do I have to f*cking tell you to stop this bullsh*t way of calling me? I don’t want to see your face,” he immediately said. The f*cking bastard just laughed at him.

Being the head in public affairs of DV Corp., one might think that Axe is serious while working. But he only gives the company headaches more than him solving the company’s issues. Considering that he is the eldest grandson of Victoria Dela Vega, other people might think that Axe should be the one in Rush’s position today. But his cousin happily handed the role over to him without any contest because Axe wouldn’t be able to handle the responsibility. He’s free-spirited and he wanted to keep it that way. Axe just gave in with their grandmother when he accepted the position he has now.

“Let me guess, you still have no EA until now?” Axe asked. He just gave him glare. “Aww. Sad.

“What the f*ck do you want? Where’s Ty?” he asked. He’s not going to let him pester him alone.

“He’s not answering my call,” Axe replied who seems to be calling Tyler once again. A moment later, he let out a laugh. “Ty might still be planting.

You can really rely on Tyler. He is the youngest among them three and their new venture—Hectare One—is his brainchild. It’s a business that focuses on building opportunities and innovation on food and agriculture. Tyler’s mission was to help local farmers, food producers and manufacturers to have sustainable livelihood and better product results. He’s investing in the local farmers whom he sees a potential to export. The company is also conducting trainings to help improve the farming methods of the farmers. Tyler wants to make the country as one of the best in exports in the world when it comes to agriculture and food.

“Get on with your business, assh*le. What do you want?

“I’m bored. I was wondering if you already have a new EA so that I can meet them, but you still haven’t found one,” Axe said. In that case, he seemed to be more frustrated than Rush.

“What the f*ck? Why do you need to meet my EA when they’re not going to work for you?

            “It’s for the bet.

“What bet?” he asked him confused.

“Tyler and I always have a bet on how many months or weeks would your EA last with you,” Axe confessed in giggles. He really has nothing to do with his life. “By the way, I always win. By a week’s margin.

“Mind your own f*cking business, assh*les,” he said that made Axe laugh even more.

“But seriously, you still haven’t found one? How can you live with that?” his cousin asked him in curiosity. Axe and Tyler could not relate with Rush because their assistants were efficient enough for them. And Rush had already tried hiring people like their assistants but it still did not work out.

I’m not the f*cking problem, if you’re wondering. It’s my right to demand work from them.

“I have a new one coming in. Hopefully, this one f*cking lasts.

“Dude, your EAs will last if you know how to take care of them, too. It’s surprising that no one has yet to try to poison you.

“I’m paying them a lot. Their bonuses are much bigger than the other workers who have a lot of workload. They don’t have the right to complain when I only need them to work as hard as I do,” Rush reasoned because that’s what he really believed in.

“Dude, they have a life outside your company unlike you,” Axe said.

“I don’t need people who’s not going to be serious with my business,” Rush seriously said.

“F*ck! You’re hopeless. What you need is a person who’s as workaholic as you. Tyler’s out of the question. And I doubt that there’s still a person like that. And because of that, I’ll bet for only three weeks max with your next EA.

Rush rolled his eyes. “Whatever. Are you done wasting my f*cking time?

“You know, I wonder about that, too,” Axe curiously said.

            “About what?

“Do you even have time to f*ck?” he asked, he knows that he’s just controlling his laughter.

“It’s none of your f*cking business, asshole!” he said in frustration then he ended the call. But before he could end it, he saw Axe laughing on the other line.

            That f*cking bastard.

Dealing with Axe exhausted Rush. And just by thinking about the things he still needed to do tomorrow, he’s already exhausted. There’s going to be monthly business review two days from now. And he wouldn’t be able to do it on his own. Who’s going to handle the meeting?

He badly needed an assistant as soon as possible.
