Chapter 1

KAELYNN's POV

I pulled my baggage until I reached the front door when some tiny hands pulled my clothes.

"Sister Runo, you’re leaving? Please don’t go. We’re going to miss you" I knelt down to hug them. They’re the children of whom I take care and I consider them as siblings. We're all left here in the orphanage by our parents. The fact that I'm leaving hurts them, and it's painful to see them cry.

Did my parents feel the same way I do now when they left me behind?

"I promise I’ll visit you guys. Besides I’m not going too far from here" I lied. Honestly speaking, Lockhart’s mansion is too far and I will not be able to visit them anymore because of my new job as a full-time maid.

I’m going to miss them, all of them. I promise if I have earned enough money, I would come back. By then, it would be great if all of them are already adopted by a kind-hearted family, unlike me who grow up here without anyone wanting to take me in.

"Take care of yourself, Runo. By the way, have you said goodbyes to Red?" I shook my head and looked up to my best friend’s window

"He hasn't talked to me ever since he knew that I’m leaving. Please tell him that I’m going to miss him” the nun nodded and I let the children go

I waved my hand as I got on the tricycle going to the bus terminal. I looked up to Red’s window again and saw him with a frown but he still managed to wave his hand. I waved back and smiled at him.

It took a three or four-hour ride before I finally arrived here in Lockhart’s territory which was located up a hill.

"Sorry Miss, you have to walk from here. The road is too steep for my tricycle” said the tricycle driver.

"Thank you" I smiled.

He nodded but with a look on his face saying like he didn't want me to proceed. I got nervous with the way he looks so I hurriedly went to my new workplace. It took me another 10 minutes before I finally reached the front gate. I was out of breath. It felt like I literally climbed up a mountain with a piece of huge baggage.

I took a deep breath and looked up to the huge gate.

"I can do this!" I clicked the doorbell and two guards came out of the gate. Their serious looks and life-less colored eyes made me nervous.

"Uhm good afternoon, sir. I am the newly hired maid from Manila. Oh and this is the letter sent to us for the application as a maid"

After a careful examination of the letter, they let me in. Carrying the baggage for me, they did not talk all the way. Following their lead, I quietly enjoyed the beautiful view of the forest-like garden and rose field. Finally, we arrived at the fountain which stood right in front of the mansion. Technically, it's more like a palace than a mansion with all that golden decoration.

I was really amazed by the structure of the mansion. I was imaging that we're going to pass through the main door and a grand warm welcome would be awaited for me until one of the guards patted my shoulder and pointed at a small door on the side of the mansion. I'm just daydreaming. I’m a maid, not a princess.

I sighed. As we entered the small door, I was really disappointed with what I saw. It's the opposite to the outside view. Thick and long curtains blocked the sunlight, making the place dark. The only source of light here was the big chandelier.

The guards gave back my luggage and left me here. Before long, an old lady in a maid uniform entered the room, nodded to me, and instructed me to follow her, so I did.

"My name is Mila and I’m the head maid here. I’ll teach you everything that you must and must not do"

"Yes, Mam."

She looked strict and her voice was cold, which made me nervous. But she’s really pretty. Her hair is purely black and her lip is too red. Her brown eyes are sharp but beautiful.

"This will be your room" we entered a room near the kitchen and the living room.

This room was beautiful.

I thought I would sleep with another maid but there’s only one bed here, so I guess this room was only for me.

"Leave your belongings here. I’ll show you around the mansion. After that, I’ll introduce you to your masters" I nodded. As we walk around the mansion, we saw a lot of other maids. They’re all females, pretty but with lifeless eyes and pale skins. Maybe I’ll get a fairer skin tone too since the whole place is air-conditioned with no sunlight getting in.

We’re done now with the tour and I’ve listed down the things that I must not do, there are a lot of “must not do” including, I am not allowed to get out of the mansion without permission.

"Come here. I’ll introduce you to your masters" I gulped and started to feel nervous, again.

*tok tok*

"Get inside" she opened the door and bowed. I followed her inside and bowed too. When I lift my head, I saw the four Lockhart siblings

"Sit here, Ms. Alberona"

I nodded and sat in front of the siblings and that’s when Mila left

"I am the eldest son, Daryl Lockhart"

He’s really handsome. He has the looks of a businessman, and he’s probably the one who will inherit their family business since he’s the oldest.

"And these are Danrious and Daniel." both of them gave me a peace-sign but they looked bored, nevertheless I still smiled at them.

They really looked like each other. There were so many meanings inside their eyes.

Then how am I supposed to tell who’s Sir Danrious or Sir Daniel?

"The one with a hair split from the right side is the eldest, Danrious. And the one from the left is Daniel" I was shocked with sir Daryl’s, he was able to answer my question on my mind. Can he do telepathy?

Then I felt a small hand tugging my clothes and as I looked at it. I saw the cutest thing on earth!

"He’s the youngest son, Darenn, He’s only four years old. He’s really naughty so please look after him carefully" I nodded and I really wanted to hug Sir Darenn

His big round eyes are perfect for his innocent face: adorable. I was about to carry him but he suddenly bit my hand and ran away than stick his tongue out. I was shocked by his moves. The twins just laughed at me. I hold my hand and a bit of blood came out of where Siir Darenn bit me. Before I could wipe the blood properly, I felt a sudden change in the atmosphere. It became heavier. I looked at them. Sir Daryl looking away from me, Sir Danrious walking towards me while his twin, sir Daniel was smirking at me.

"Let me see" I was shocked when he took my hand and looked me in the eyes. I shuddered when he smirked at me and licked the blood out of my hand.

Being scared, I hurriedly took back my hand and hid it behind my back.

“Ah, I’m fine sir. I’ll go now and take care of Sir Darenn" I ran out of the room and found Mila waiting for me outside the room.

"Come. This is where Sir Darenn’s room is" I nodded.

While we are walking to Sir Darenn’s room, I still can’t forget about that moment where Sir Danrious did that and the way they looked at me.

Those twins are scary, I better avoid them, but they’re still part of my job. They assigned me to take care of them and to follow their orders, it’d be great if I was only assigned in the kitchen or just cleaning the house but I don’t have any choice it’s their request.

Can I do this?

Wait Kaelynn, you just started and now you’re giving up? Come on! You can do this!

Inside the room where the three older Lockhart’s are...

"Hahaha what now Rious? It seems like your sex appeal did not work on our new maid hahaha," said Daniel, while laughing at his twin

"Are you stupid? If my sex appeal won’t work on her then yours too. We’re twins remember. Besides, she’s just shy, soon she’ll give in." the twins smirked and looked so happy with their new toy.

"Stop that Danrious! Daniel! It’s too hard for me to look for someone who will take care of Darenn so don’t do anything to that woman yet" said by the eldest son while reading his book

"tsss no fun !" said Danrious in a bored tone then sigh.

"He’s really a killjoy, come on Rious" said by Daniel and the twins left the room

Daryl held his forehead and shook his head.

"Tssk that was a close one. Her blood smells so good"
