PROLOGUE

I’m Runo Kaelynn Alberona, a woman growing up in an orphanage. No one wants to take me as a new member of their family. I’ve been longing for parental love but no one has ever given it to me. Since I’ve never met my biological parents, I consider Sister Mary and other nuns at the orphanage as my parents. I’ve never met my siblings either. I don’t even know if I do have biological siblings. All I know are the children whom I grow up with, play with, and cry with. They are my brothers and sisters. We all have one similarity and that is we are all orphans, abandoned and forgotten by our real family.

I’ve never left their side before, but now, I have no choice but to work and live in a new environment since I’m already nineteen years old and I am not allowed to stay at the place I call home, La Esperanza Orphanage.

I don’t mind working at all even at this young age, but looking for a job is quite hard since I’ve just graduated from high school. Because of the financial crisis, I no longer have plans on taking up college unless someone offers me a scholarship. However, that is only a dream.

With no knowledge in a specific field, it’s hard for me to hunt for a decent job, but luckily someone has sent a request to the orphanage. Sister Mary has decided to send me as a maid to a rich family-The Lockhart Family, and I accept it.

Now, I have to go to their mansion and live away from my family. And starting from today, I need to survive and live on my own, without help from Sister Mary or anyone from the orphanage.

My plan is to earn enough money to establish my own business and to look for my biological parents who left me in La Esperanza. Also, when I have extra money, I would like to go visit La Esperanza and when that time comes, I am hoping that all the children there are adopted already.

After three to four hours of traveling, I finally arrive. All I can see from where I am standing right now is the gate, the walls, and the tall trees behind these walls.

Seeing this gate face-to-face makes me believe that my soon-to-be masters are really really blessed with fortunes. I hope they will not look down upon me for being a poor maid.

“I can do this!

Taking a deep breath, I rang the doorbell. Two guards opened the gate. Following their lead, I went inside, without knowing what would happen to me inside this fairytale-like mansion.
