Chapter 5 Property Liquidation

In the middle of the night, I get up and secretly open the safe box to check all of our properties. The down payment of this house comes from my parents, but both of our names are written on the property certificate. How stupid I am. We have cash as well, about 200 thousand.

I put the cards into my wallet and put the property certificate back to the safer.

I cannot sleep but lie on the bed with my eyes widely open until dawn. I get up early to make breakfast.

Mingyue wants to play the same trick again but is terrified when seeing me making fries in the kitchen. She runs back into the guest room like I am a ghost.

I ask for one day leave and go back to my parent's house. Mom is excited to see me and keep asking a lot of questions about my life and my work. As always, I only report good news. I don't want them to worry about me. They are getting old with more and more grey hairs. It's really big grief to see that. If I tell them that their daughter's happy life is nothing but an illusion.

I lie to my mom to get her ID card and go to the bank to take all money out. As for Mingyu's card, I don't need his ID card because I know the password and I can withdraw all cash from the ATM. After getting all money out, I deposit them all into my mother's account.

All money in the ten cards has been transferred into a credit card, the one owned by my mother. That's the only thing I get from our marriage.

As the old Chinese saying goes, if you want to conquer a man, you need to capture his stomach and his eyesight.

Last night, when I was turning and tossing on bed, I think carefully over why does Mingyu no longer love me.

I don't get the answer. What I know is the difference between Ting and me. Maybe what she has but I don't is the thing that attracts Mingyu. I have no idea how they hook up together, but now I will fight back.

The good thing is I know their affairs, but they don't know the fact I've got them.

At noon, I went to look for Mingyu in the company. The receptionist helps me call Mingyu the moment she sees me, but I stop her. I tell her that I'm looking for Ting. She is surprised and mutters, "Your cousin lacks taste for girls."

I smile back, pretending to overhear it.

Ting comes out quickly. Her full name is Zhang Ting. I've seen it in the contacts of the receptionist.

She's wearing a white shirt and A skirt with high heels. With good make-ups, she looks fabulous.

She's surprised to see me.

I hurry over and smile to her, "I forget to thank you. Thank you for sending Mingyu back. Without you, I would be worried to death. May I have lunch with you?"

I try my best to be earnest, and my lips become stiff after smiling too hard. Luckily, she says yes.

To save time, we go to a western restaurant nearby and order something.

"Ting, thank you so much. I cannot think of other ways to show my gratitude but only treat you for dinner."

She smiles. Her red lips were dazzling. I have to admit that she's pretty. If I was a man, I would be raptured by her as well.

"Don't thank me. We're colleagues. We should take care of each other."

"You are beautiful. Do you have a boyfriend?" I continued.

"Yes." She nods, sipping at the orange juice.

"Excuse me. I need to go to the bathroom."

When she goes to the restroom, I ask the waiter, "Give me two glasses of hot water, burning hot, please. I'm not feeling well and cannot have cold drinks."

Soon the waiter brings two cups of hot water, and I give him 100 bucks as tips.

"Sorry to keep you waiting."

Ting wiped her wet hands with tissue elegantly.

I shake my head and comfort her, "Never mind. Miss Zhang, you're so pretty. You must live happily with your boyfriend."

She is shocked by my words but soon returns back to normal, "yes, indeed. He loves me very much, and we will get married soon."

My heart aches. What has Mingyu promised to her?

"Don't forget to give me an invitation," I tease her.

She laughs with her eyes narrowed like a victor, "sure, If you will."

"The youth of a woman pass within a blink. If she marries to the right one, every day is Valentine day. But if she gets the wrong guy, her life would be like a living hell."

"My friend is the latter one. Her husband is cheating on her, and she cries every day."

"Does your friend ever think about the reason why her husband betrays her? As far as I am concerned, there are three reasons: her husband is a playboy by nature, or her husband has no resistance to beautiful lady, or her husband doesn't love her anymore."

She has a good thought on marriage.

"Mrs Li, if Mingyu had an affair, which reason would it be?"

Her question, sharp and straight-forward, surprises me. She is provoking my bottom line. I know it, but still I laugh as if it is a joke, "I believe in Mingyu. He won't."

"You're confident."

"I am, as long as you don't seduce him. I hear that Miss Zhang has a messy private life. I do hope you can stay away from Mingyu."

Zhang Ting doesn't expect me to set fire on her. As expected, she becomes angry and shows me with the hot water.

"You'd better clear your mouth," She curses.

I scream because of the hot water and all people in the restaurant turn to my direction.

Zhang Ting is stunned.

I raise my hands to block it since I am not stupid enough to show my face to the hot water. But my arms are burnt and become red instantly. I cry out of pain and the waiter dashes to me, asking whether I need to call the ambulance. I thank her but say no. I ask her to get a cab for me to the hospital.

When the doctor is taking care of my wound, Mingyu calls me. He's worried. I cry hard when telling him where I am, and he comes for me within half an hour.

His face darkens when seeing me crying, but I pretend to not notice that and cry hard in his arms, ""Sorry, Mingyu. I just invited Zhang Ting to have lunch to thank her for taking care of you and sending you home when you were drunk. I didn't expect that she would splash water on my face. She even said... she said..."

"What did she say?"

Mingyu asked closely. His voice is hoarse and rattled.

I look up at Mingyu with tears rolling down from my eyes.

"She said you loved her. I didn't believe it, but she splashed water on me and cursed me."

Mingyu hugs me tightly and presses my head close to his arms. I cannot see his face, but I'm sure he would not be happy.

"That's BS. She's lying. Don't believe her."

I hug him back and sob, "Mingyu, I have always trusted you. Don't worry. I won't be fooled by her."

"Jiewen, take a good rest. I'll go to a restroom for a while."
