Memories

Prologue

"Just one more push!" the doctor urged. The woman on the bed let out a scream and then panted heavily. A baby's cry was heard and everyone smiled. Nurses rushed to cut the umbilical cord and clean the mess. "A beautiful baby girl," the doctor gave the crying baby wrapped in a white cloth to her mother. The woman smiled letting out tears of joy while her husband stood next to her having the same reaction. "What will you name her?" a nurse asked. The married couple looked at each other and smiled. "Aphira...Aphira Samantha Horris," the father said. The baby was soon taken away to clean up and let the mother rest.

Two women were on wheelchairs. They sat outside the nursery rooms watching their babies. "Aw look how cute they are," the short haired woman said gushing over the babies. Her husband stood behind looking at his daughter."They all look the same to me Maria," the long haired woman said. Her husband sat on a bench waiting for them to finish."Oh don’t be such a killjoy,” Maria pouts backing away slightly. “When they grow up, they will be the bestest best friends ever," Maria said looking at their children. She smiled thinking of the future. "I'll make sure of it," she said.

A 7-year old Aphira sat on their porch swing while waiting for Damian. A car soon stopped in front of their house and she lit up in joy. The door opened and out came Damian grinning childishly. "Hey Ash!" he yelled while running over to her. She stood up and met him with a hug. "You got here earlier than I thought. Where are your parents?" Aphira asked after noticing that his mother or father didn't get out of the car. "Oh they had some business to do so they couldn't come with me. My driver is there though," He said gesturing to an old man who shut the driver's door. He smiled kindly to the children who were looking at him.

"Let's go. I have a lot to tell you.” Aphira said and dragged the boy to her room. They chat all afternoon and had a snack of spaghetti and softdrinks prepared by Maria. They told each other stuff that happened over the week. After that they played a bit of some video games before Damian had to return home. "I'll see you at school tomorrow. Bye!" Damian yelled out of the window. Aphira just smiled and waved goodbye to him. She went back in her room and fell asleep completely forgetting about dinner.

The next day the Horris house was filled with tears after receiving a bad news. Jessica just called in and told them that Damian and his driver got into a car crash. It was raining heavily and the old man couldn't see the road. A car behind them was speeding and collided with them. An ambulance came and rushed them to the hospital. As of now Damian is under a surgery.

"Mommy will Ian be okay?" Aphira asked while crying for her friend. She hugged the doll he gave her on her 4th birthday. "Yes dear. Damian will be okay he's a strong boy," Her mother said and hugged her. She sobbed in her chest worried for Damian. Later on they got another call from Jessica. This time, she spoke in sorrow. She explained that they had to leave tomorrow because the doctors there weren't skilled enough and didn't have the proper equipment to heal Damian. They understood the situation and didn't go against their decision.

The next day, the Horris family went to the airport to see the Salvator family for the last time in many years. "Come back when Ian is okay." Aphira said while trying to stop herself from crying but failing. Jessica smiled and hugged the girl."We'll come back when we're ready." She said and then hugged Maria who was sobbing loudly. "I'm really gonna miss you!" Maria cried. Their husbands gave each other a pat on the back and a bro hug wishing each other the best of luck. The Salvator family then went off to their private plane leaving them.

"I'll wait for you Damian." Aphira whispered while clutching her doll tightly to her chest.
