THREAD FIFTEEN: ROBBED

MEREDITH ends her day without seeing Randall again. She just found out that Don Warrick had not yet been released from the hospital according to what their professor had informed them so she decided to pay him a visit after their appointment with the Forensic sketch artist. And now, they’re just waiting for the result of the sketch.

“Oh my gosh! The girl in your dream is stunningly beautiful! She looks like a Campus Queen.” Marylex’s reaction when she saw the face of the woman in Meredith’s dream.
“And a goddess who descended from heaven!
” Shanaia added.
Marylex put her right hand under her chin to think.
“I’m wondering, when will you see the man’s face in your dream? I’m sure he’s attractive and handsome too!”
“That’s what I’m thinking too.

Shanaia rubbed her shoulder.
“Don’t worry, we will help you.
She folded the paper and then stuck it in her notebook before putting it in her bag.
“Thank you, girls!
“You’re welcome, Mer!
” they said in unison.
“Let me take you to the café then,” Shanaia offered but she immediately declined.

“Why?
Is today your rest day?
“No!
But I had a few errands I needed to run before heading to work.
Shanaia narrowed her eyes.
“Where are you going?
“Mom wants me to buy some supplies for the shop,” she excused.

She didn’t want to open up yet to her friends about the old man’s dying wish.
Not right now.
The truth is, she wants to visit the old man first.

“Okay!

“Take care!

And she quickly took a cab and went to the supermarket to buy some fresh fruits in a basket for Don Warrick.

“MS. EBELTE?  What brings you here?” Manolo asked when he was surprised by her sudden visit.
“I came here to visit Don Warrick.
 I heard he got sick.
“The old count was resting in his room.

“H-how about Randall?
Is he here also?” she asked.
She really wanted to thank him for calming her down last time at the beach.

“He just left without saying where he was going.

She felt disappointed.
“O-okay.”
Then Manolo led her to the old man’s room.

“Sir, someone’s here to pay you a visit,” Manolo announced after knocking on the door three times.

“Who is it?
” the old man asked.
“Miss Meredith Ebelte, Sir.

“Let her in!

Then he leads her the way inside.

“Hi, Sir!
How are you feeling?” she asked while placing the fruits she bought on the side table.
He smiled.
“Still weak. But now that you’re here, I’m starting to  feel better.
“Well, that’s good to hear, Sir.

Then she sat beside his bed and was surprised when he held one of her hands.
“Ija, I know I’m asking too much of you and my grandson. But that’s the only thing I want to witness before I disappear from this world.
She also held his hand that was holding her.
“Don’t talk like that, Sir. Look at how strong you are. And as he said, he’s looking for someone else, right?
The old man nodded.

“Then why don’t you let him decide for himself?

He looked her straight in the eye.
“No. I don’t want to reconcile my grandson with anyone but you.
“W-why me?
There’s a lot of women out there who deserve to be your grandson’s wife.
Gosh!
She’s not yet ready for the next level of her life.
The old man shrugged his shoulders.
“I don’t know either. It’s just that, I felt a connection the first time I saw you.
She just smiled awkwardly, still couldn’t understand him.

“Don’t worry, Sir.
Randall and I will talk about that as long as you promise us that you will be strong,” she said instead.
She just said that so that he would stop nagging her about marriage.

She looked at her wristwatch and saw that she only have thirty minutes left before her work hours that’s why she immediately bid her goodbye.

“Aren’t you going to wait for my grandson?
” the old man asked out of the blue.
Was it obvious from her actions that she wants to see his grandson?

“No, Sir!
I still have work to do.
The old man frowned.
“Work?
She nodded.
“Yes! I work at Venza Café.
“For what?

“For extra income.

The old man looked at her as if he felt sorry for her.
“Oh! Don’t worry, I’m not neglecting my studies,” she added.
“Why you didn’t tell me?
Ija, I assure you, if you agree to what I want to happen, you will not experience all the hardships you are experiencing right now. You know that you can count on me anytime.
“I will, Sir!
Thank you!”
Then she bid her goodbye because she doesn’t want to prolong their conversation.

“Go ahead!
I’ll see you when I see you!” She nodded.
“Let Manolo take you to your work so you won’t be late for your work,” the old count added.

“Thank you, Sir!

“WHAT a long night!” Saling complaint, her partner in washing the dishes at the Café.
It’s been a month since she started her part-time job.

“Yeah, right.

“And it’s also hard to find a ride now because it’s the holiday season,” Saling explained.
“That’s why my boyfriend texted me that he’s going to pick me up.
She felt sad because they always go home together.
But not tonight because Saling’s boyfriend only uses a motorcycle. They might even get fined on the road if the three of them cram themselves into a motorcycle.
“Don’t worry!
I’ll take a cab!
“Cab fares have also increased nowadays.

“But I don’t have a choice!

“How about calling your cousin?
He has four wheels, doesn’t he?
Saling saw his cousin once when he ate there at the café.

Why hadn’t she thought of his cousin sooner?
Right! For sure, with just one call, he will surely come to her immediately.
But he didn’t answer the fifth time she called.

She sighed.
Her cousin was probably sleeping that's why she couldn’t do anything but hail a cab. Just a few minutes later, he could see a cab coming her way when she suddenly felt something sharp on her waist.
