Untitled

Four days had already passed since Selina’s grandmother called and warned her about someone who was trying to find and get her, but since then, she had not heard anything from her.

She tried calling their house and asked about her grandmother, but Alysha said that she was in a hospital because her condition was not getting any better and kept worsening as the day went by. She told her that she will call her whenever there was some improvement in her grandmother’s condition and let her talk to her.

Selina knew that her grandmother’s condition had worsened, but there was something that was troubling her, and her instinct was telling her that something was going on but she did not know what it was.

She lazily threw herself on her bed after taking a bath and stared blankly on the ceiling of her room. It had been a long day for her as she immersed herself in studying longer than usual, not just only to prepare for her classes, but also to distract herself from the things that were troubling her.

Supposedly, Selina would have been at the hospital after her class to visit Grace. However, ever since that night, she had not paid Grace any visit. She told Grace’s parents that she would not be able to visit for a while because she had something to take care of.

I felt bad for lying to Mr. Brown, she thought to herself, when she remembered what she told him.

The reason why she did not want to see Grace for the meantime, was that Grace acted weird when she returned to her room after she called her mother that night.

She felt like Grace was thoroughly watching and observing her every move, and even when Grace was already sleeping, Selina still felt like, she was still awake and was just pretending to sleep. She was not even able to sleep that night and felt like if she would close her eyes even for a second, someone or something will attack her.

Grace…is she still the same friend that I used to know? Selina asked to herself. There were times when she felt like Grace was not the friend that she used to know, and whenever she was with her, she somehow felt so unsafe.

On that same night, at the Police Station that was handling the case of the accident where Selina got involved with, a policewoman noticed an unusual necklace at the office table of one of her co-workers while she was putting some document. At first glance, it only looked like an antique necklace with a glass pendant covered in gold.

As curious as she was, the policewoman unconsciously reached for it. She looked at the necklace carefully, observing every single detail on it when suddenly, she noticed something inside the glass pendant.

She gasped in surprise at what she saw and unintentionally threw the necklace away from her. She stared at the necklace that landed on the table with wide eyes while trembling in fear as if she had seen something terrific inside of it. Impossible! She thought to herself.

Her co-worker, who was the owner of that table, suddenly came right at that moment and looked at her confusingly while raising his brow. “Hey, what are you doing, Hannah?” He asked while walking towards the policewoman.

Hannah looked at him with fear in her eyes. “I-Is that yours?” She asked while trembling.

“Huh?” The policeman said and looked at his table to see what she was referring to. “Ah, you mean this necklace?” He picked it up and proudly showed it to Hannah. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?

Hannah’s expression changed and became serious, but the fear was still visible on her face. “I’m asking you. Is that yours?

“Yeah, but this is not originally mine. If I remembered correctly, the owner of this necklace was one of the civilians who were involved in the recent bus accident at the highway going to New Hampshire.

“What? Then why do you have that?” Hannah asked suspiciously.

“Hey! If you are thinking that I stole it, you are wrong. A woman came here looking for this saying that she was a relative of the owner, but when I gave it to her, she told me that she didn’t need it anymore and that I could just throw it away if I wanted to or do whatever I wanted with it.

“What?” Hannah felt the hairs on her back stood up. A relative? If so, that woman should know how important that necklace is… she thought to herself and then gasped when the realization hit her. “Oh my god.

The police looked at her confusingly then smirked. “C’mon. The family of the owner was the one who gave it to me so my possession over this is not that questionable.” He said then put the necklace inside the pocket of his pants. “What’s wrong with you? Don’t tell me you are interested in my necklace too?

“Name? What’s the name of the owner?” Hannah suddenly asked.

“Huh? Why –”

“Hurry up! Tell me the owner’s name!” Hannah shouted, cutting her co-workers’ words.

The policeman clicked his tongue before returning to his table to search for the name of the necklace’s owner. “You better keep your mouth shut about this or else…” The police warmed as he searched through his files on his computer. “Oh. Here it is. Her name is Selina Turner, 19 years old, and a university student at Merriam University.

“Her address? Or any contact information?” Hannah desperately asked.

As soon as the police gave her Selina’s contact information, she hurriedly drove her car and called the phone number that was registered on their data. The phone rang many times, but nobody picked it up.

“C’mon! Is this really her number?” Hannah asked impatiently while keeping her eyes on the road. Then after the second try, Selina finally answered the call.

“Hello, is this Ms. Selina Turner?” Hannah asked.

“…Yeah. Who’s this?

“I am Hannah Walker from the Police Station that handled the investigation about the accident that you got involved with.

“…Okay.” Selina asked, sounded all confused. “Do you need anything from me?

Hannah opened her mouth to respond when suddenly, something ran passed right in front of her car that she almost hit it. She quickly hit the break and tried to shift the steering wheel to avoid it and it created a loud screeching sound.

“Hello? Are you okay? I heard a screeching sound. Did you get in an accident?” Selina worriedly asked.

“…Yes, Ms. Turner, I’m okay.” Hannah replied when she successfully stopped her car and slowly peeked outside through her front windshield. “Please wait a moment Ms. Turner. I am going to check something.

Hannah went out of her car and checked if what was it that she almost ran into, but she found nothing – she was the only one in that dark street that was surrounded by establishments. She had goosebumps. Did they already find out what I am trying to do? Or…am I already late? She thought to herself.

“Hello? Is everything alright?” Selina asked on the phone, which returned Hannah to her senses.

She put the phone back on her ears. “Yes, Ms. Turner. Everything is okay, don’t worry.” She reassured her as she looked around her one more time before hoping on her car. “Ms. Turner, where are you? I know it’s already late but, can we meet right now?” Hannah asked then she closed the car’s door and started the engine again. “It’s about your necklace.
