Grace slept early after she took her medicine; Selina on the other hand, could not sleep at all and just watched television with low volume to avoid waking Grace up. There were just many things that were running on her mind that she desperately wanted to escape from.

She kept her eyes on the television while sitting on the couch beside Grace’s bed, but she was not paying attention to it. Her mind kept wandering off and thinking about things that she did not want to think about.

Her eyes gaze at the clock beside the television and realized that it was already ten o'clock in the evening; at midnight, all the lights in the hallway would be turned off – just like those times when she was still staying there.

She then took a glance at Grace and stared at her for a long time when suddenly, her phone rang and made her almost jump in surprise.

Shit! I almost got a heart attack! She exclaimed to herself when she felt her heartbeat raced and reached for her phone. She then realized that it was their home's number in Pennsylvania.

She took a glimpse of Grace before finally deciding to get out of the room to avoid disturbing her sleep. But she froze when she opened the door and saw that some lights in the hallway were already off, making the whole floor area dim.

But it is still ten o'clock, she thought to herself. She tried to look around to see other people, but there was none – nurses or patients.

Selina hesitated to leave the room, but in the end, she decided to get to a place where there were more lights on – and she found one. She felt relieved when she saw that the lights were on near the emergency exit and quickly went there.

“Selina! Selina!” An old woman suddenly called her name out in a trembling voice on the other side of the line when she answered the call.

Selina’s eyes widened when she realized whose voice was that. “G-grandma? What’s wrong?

“Where are you?” Her grandmother desperately asked with a voice filled with fear.

Selina got confused for a moment. “…Grandma, what’s ha—”

“Where are you?!” Her words were cut off when her grandmother shouted. Selina knew that it was not because she was mad at her or something, rather, it was like she was worried that something might happen to her.

“Calm down, Grandma. I am at the hospital with Grace. Do you remember her? She’s my friend and Mr. Brown’s daughter.

Selina started panicking when she felt the fear in her grandmother’s voice, then all of a sudden, she heard her grandmother gasped which sent chill ran down her spine. Her grandmother did not speak for a moment; all she could hear was her heavy breathing.

“...He found you.” She suddenly said while whispering in a trembling voice, then the next thing Selina heard was her sobs. “He already found you.

The color was drained from Selina’s face. She did not know what her grandmother was talking about, but fear crept into her body, making her unable to move from where she was. She took a deep breath - one after another to calm herself down before responding. “…Grandma, what’s happening? Where’s mom?

“He’s coming to get you.” Her grandmother warned her with horror.

A deafening silence filled Selina’s ears; it was quiet that all she could hear was her heartbeat. It was loud that she thought it would explode any moment. She then felt her sweat slowly dripped down on her face.

She stood there, not moving an inch while keeping the phone on her hear; waiting for the next thing that she might hear from the other side of the line, but nothing came out.

“Grandma, what are yo—”

“Found you.

Selina stiffened yet trembled with fear when someone suddenly spoke behind her and cut her words off. Once again, she felt the horror that had hunted her in that same hospital.

She silently stood there – listening to her heartbeat as it raced until the person behind her spoke again.

“Selina? What’s wrong?

Selina could not respond and felt like there was something stuck on her throat preventing her voice to come out. I knew that voice, Selina thought to herself. I knew it, but there was something about it that makes me shivered in fear.

She squeezed the phone on her hand and slowly lowered it down. She was preparing herself for the worst thing that would come to her; for the worst thing that she might see.

Her feet moved and her body slowly turned at her back – keeping her eyes first on the floor before finally looking at the person behind her. She looked at it slowly from its feet up to its head, until she met that person’s eyes.

She stared at the person, who was in a wheelchair, in front of her with fear and confusion in her eyes. She could clearly remember those eyes that seemed like digging into her soul.

“…G-Grace.” She mumbled in a weak voice.

Grace stared at her for a while with a blank expression, then she suddenly smiled, but her eyes were cold and looked at her wickedly like she was trying to devour her alive just from staring at her.

“What are you doing here, Selina?

Selina felt like her head was throbbing as hard as the pounding of her heart and could not think straight. She swallowed, trying to get her dried throat wet. “…I was… taking a call.

“Hmm?” Grace tilted her head to the side while keeping a smile on her face. “From who?

“…From Grandma.

Grace giggled playfully and then stopped abruptly; her expression turned into a serious one. “You should head back now. She won’t answer you anymore ‘cause she’s gone.

Selina’s eyes widened and stared in horror at her friend. Her words were not like before when she was talking nonsense about things – this time, it sounded like she meant it.

Selina gripped her phone on her hand. “W-what do you mean?

She felt dread twisted in her gut when her friend smiled like she was taunting her to try guessing what it was. Then her eyes looked at the phone in Selina’s hand.

“I could hear the beeping sound on your phone. She already hung up, that’s why she was already gone.

It was only then when Selina heard the beeping sound coming from her phone. She slowly looked at it and saw that the call was cut off – like what Grace told her.

Selina was confused; she did not know what she should believe in and who she should trust anymore. It was as if, she was being toyed with.

She stared back at her friend who was now smiling normally at her – with kindness and warmth. “Let’s head back together, Selina.” Grace said while reaching her hand out at her, but Selina just stared at it for a long time before giving her a response.

“…What are you doing here, Grace? Weren’t you sleeping?” Selina asked with distrust in her tone.

“Yeah. I woke up and looked for you, but you were not in the room so I went out and I found you here. Let’s head back now, okay?

“…Is that so? I still have to call my mom. You can head back first.

“Oh, I see. Okay.

Selina watched Grace with doubt and distrust in her eyes, but she felt a little relief when she left without doing anything unusual. She was already on the verge of believing that the person she was with was not her friend.

However, as Grace left Selina and went back to her room, Grace’s eyes turned into pure black eyes and her left eye bled with a dark and thick liquid that slowly ran down on her cheek.

A wild malicious grin flashed on her lips and she started laughing quietly – as if she had won over something.

Selina on the other hand was anxiously trying to call her grandmother back, but the telephone was not ringing. She walked back and forth, worrying that something might happen to her grandma.

She had also tried calling her mother’s phone but it just kept ringing and no one answered. Maybe I should call the emergency hotline, she thought to herself then gave her mother one last call. Fortunately, someone picked it up after three rings, giving Selina a great sense of relief.

“Mom, where’s Grandma?” She worriedly asked, but no one responded; there was a long silence on the other line. “Mom?” Selina checked if she was calling the right number and confirmed that it was her mother’s number. But then why nobody is speaking?

She put the phone back on her ear, then she suddenly heard something moved on the other line. It was only after that when someone spoke.

“…Grandma is fine. She’s sleeping right now.” A woman said in an emotionless and weak voice.

Selina was taken aback and started feeling anxious; somehow, she felt like something was off. She did not respond immediately and stared blankly at the wall in front of her, thinking and trying to calm herself down.

“Mom…is this you? Are you okay?

There was once again a long silence, then suddenly, Selina heard her mom gasped.

“…Uhm, yeah. Sorry, I’m just tired today and have just woken up. It’s been a tiring day for me. Anyway, is there something wrong?” Alysha replied with her usual voice and tone, but Selina was completely confused and could not respond immediately. “Selina? Are you okay?

“…Mom. Is Grandma really sleeping?

“What do you mean?” Alysha asked with confusingly.

“She called me a while ago. She was telling me about… someone trying to find me.

Alysha fell silent again and this time, Selina could not help but feel a little doubt towards the person who she was talking to.

“Oh.” Alysha replied in a frigid tone which Selina immediately noticed. “Selina, actually a while ago she was being hysterical and aggressive. I just gave her a shot to calm her down. Right now, your grandmother is sleeping soundly here beside me.
