Untitled: Heartbreak, Broken Marriage

01: How I lost Her

DAVE BRIAN ANGELO

Three months ago.

I knew I fucked up. I know I’m doomed since I wasn’t allowed to see her and my son. Especially, those orders came from Mr. Sergei Stanislav himself. He and his son guarded the door where my wife and son was. Then the next day I got a mail from him. It’s not just a normal mail or business mail. It’s a battle custody for our son. And there, I know before we even get to the court, I already lost. But I come anyway and today is the day.

I haven’t seen my Russian beauty since I arrived. My higher guess is that her father is hiding her and I wouldn’t be surprised if they are already inside when our case got called.

My nervousness is on edge. My heartbeat is double raced.

I come here with my lawyer. When I told him we are going to go against Mr. Sergei Stanislav, he knew we couldn’t win. We knew from the start, being here is a useless case. After all, I’m going to lose my wife and my son, my life.

“Case 327.” I heard someone yelled. That’s us, me. My life is just going to end here.

“You ready to face Mr. Big bad?” Even in this situation, Kyle, my lawyer still can joke. Even though we both knows it’s a bad one and just making the situation more tense. He did it anyway.

I shakes my head weakly as I put my hands in my pants pocket and start to walk to the court room. As expected, they are already in the room. They, as in my wife, Mr. Sergei Stanislav, his son, and his lawyer. From the look on their faces, I can tell that they are ready to fight to win, not to lose. Meaning they will go down and dirty for this case. And I am afraid for my life.

Kyle and I walk to our seats, opposite of them. I look at my wife’s face, looking for warmth, soft, and smiley in her, but there’s none. There’s only a blank look on her face, matching the duo. She looked like she have no life in there. I did it to her with my own action and I couldn’t bring her back.

“Please state your name.” The judge said.

“Alyona Valentina Stanislav Angelo.” I breath out in relief when she stated my last name on hers. But the relief is not a free relief. Because I know, after this case is done, my name wouldn’t be attach in hers anymore.

“Dave Brian Angelo.” I stated my name as the judge turn to me. A split second later, a frowned emerge on his forehead. I know what he’s thinking and everyone would be thinking the same too. How ironic, a wife and husband filling up for custody battle.

“You’re married. I can’t process this case.” The judge put down the papers and look at us with refusal.

I saw the look on Mr. Sergei Stanislav. I watch his moves. He eyed one of his man with gun in his hand and to the judge. The guard move forward and pointing the gun head to the judge’s head.

“You will process this case and it will be done by today. No one leaving this room before the case is done and clear.” Mr. Sergei Stanislav said out loud. Fear clearly shown on their faces except for Kyle and I. We already know how bad he can be when he want things to get done his way.

Even though I know I don’t have a chance on winning, I will still fight for our son. I don’t want to let him go without a fight and I want him to know that when he ask about his father. At least Alyona will tell him the truth. I know she will.

The judge gulped down his saliva hard. Then he nods down to the type writer. In a sign telling them to get ready for the case.

“Case number 327. Custody battle of Demyan Faddey Stanislav. As requested by Alyona Valentina Stanislav Angelo for a full custody. You may begin your petition.” The judge let her to talk, while he told me to sit back down.

“Demyan’s father, Dave Angelo, wouldn’t be able to raise him. Let alone taking care of him. He, himself is always away from home and come back home late at night or not even come home at all. He’s been seen with multiple women for the past four months before he was born. Dave was never mentally and physically there for me when I need a husband figures to lean on. And he’s not capable to provide him a good childhood and be the parent he needs in the future. And I’m sure he couldn’t afford for his study, such as college and other things.” Alyona bow down to the judge, ending her speech and as well sit back down. She turn to look at her brother who is saying something to her, which she only nod curtly.

“Your turn, Mr. Angelo.” The judge let me to take my turn to speak my petition. I didn’t prepared for any. But I quickly catch up with what she was saying.

“I’m Dave Angelo, as a husband and a father I disagree with what my wife said. Of course I could provide him a roof, food, toys and other essentials stuff which included college and money saving for him. I make a pretty good money-,” I was stopped by Kyle pulling at the bottom of my suit jacket. I look down at him and ask why he’s stopping me.

“We lost our biggest investors in the company. They’re taking back all their investments start from today.” Kyle’s information leave me speechless. I can’t believe he will go low to this point. My company has nothing to do with this. He broke me, like I did to his daughter.

“We’re screwed. No chance.” Kyle whispered. His hand make a cutting gestured for me not to continue or I’ll be fooling myself in front of these people.

I straighten my body and look straight. My eyes meet hers which I slightly regretted. Because I couldn’t look into her eyes which contain nothing. I missed seeing a passion and love in her eyes. But now, it’s all gone for God knows how many months already. I haven’t seen her since that day. The day before her labor.

And she was right too, when she said I was never there for her, to take care of her. I guess it’s an understatement that I didn’t know what she was going through.

But my heart is always be hers.
