Part 6

"Bea, wake up!" A panicked voice of Joann. She erupted into the room of Bea and trotted towards her cousin who was still sleeping.

Bea let out a little grunt, but didn't wake up completely. She hadn't slept much yet because it feels like it was less than a few minutes has passed when she closed her eyes to sleep.

"Come on, wake up!" Joann pulled off the blanket. She really wants Bea to get up. It seems like there's an emergency.

Because of that, Bea insisted on waking up. Half-awake, she sat up in bed, regretting why didn't she lock the door of her room. Ugh!

Here at her cousin's home, somehow she has privacy. Because when she starts to live here, Joann and Dennis let her occupy the nursery room, for their future baby. The couple let her occupy the room so she wouldn't feel queer or uncomfortable.

"Why, cuz? Is there something wrong?" she asked, eyes drooping.

"Yes!" Joann answered grimly, an overly concern of expression visible on her face. "My God, Bea! Where were you last night?!"

Bea bit her lower lip to prevent herself from telling Joann that she was at a Men's bar last night. "I.. I w-went to a friend of mine," she just said, which was mostly true, at least. "A-And we enjoyed catching up so much that I was not aware of the time," and she added with a deceptive smile. In fact, she almost choked by her lies.

"If that's so, why can't we contact you?! You're out of coverage?!" Joann asked incredulously. Her brows were furrowed.

She scratched the bridge of her nose, a gesture to hide her wince. Of course, she couldn't even say she was busy as a waitress last night, which was the reason why she didn't even mind checking her cell phone. Joann will surely give her a terrible sermon.

"Um..." She quickly thought of a valid reason, "m-maybe my... my phone was.. was already dead battery that time. Right. T-that's it."

But Joann eyed her suspiciously, as though she didn't quite believe her. She just stood there, giving her those glares that she did not believe any of her explanations and scanned her from top-to-bottom.

She avoided her gaze. She is afraid that Joann might know that she's lying. Spell guilty, B, E, A. Tss!

"Really? Why do I have this feeling that you are not telling me the truth?" Joann bit out, not really believing any word that she was saying. "And seriously? You can still wander around in this situation? Aren't you worried?"

Her eyes automatically narrowed into tiny slits. "Wait. What are you talking about?" and wondering, she asked. A sudden fear throbbed inside her.

"Don't you know yet?" Joann asked with wide eyes.

She shook her head worriedly. "What is it?"

"Oh, God!" Joann mumbled.

Because of that Joann's reaction, Bea's sleeping state woke up completely. She rose up from the bed with a worried rush, and stood in front of Joann. "Say it. What is it, cuz? What happened that I do not know?"

Joann sighed heavily before responding. "Cuz, your mother. Aunt Belinda rushed to the hospital last night."

"What?!" Her eyes nearly jut out in shock. What Joann said was like a bomb exploded to her hearing. Fright stamped on her face.

"Bella called me last night because she couldn't call you. They are in the hospital today because your mother was taken there last night. Your sister wanted to tell you right away, but she couldn't call you so she called me," Joann added with a slightly scolding tone.

"How is mom's condition? What was the reason why she was taken to the hospital again?" Bea was even more scared because if her sister needed to talk to her right away, her mother would definitely be in bad condition.

"You better ask Bella. Call her now. Your sister is waiting for your call. Quick," instead of answering, Joann ordered her in haste.

"Okay! Okay!" She felt worried even more, but did her best to control her nervousness. She was about to take her phone, but she was transfixed when she remembered that her bag was still at the bar, and her cell phone was there.

She looked back at her cousin. "Cuz, can I borrow your phone?"

"Where's your phone?"

"Still dead battery," she reasoned quickly rather than saying she didn't have her phone, because for sure it would take longer for them to talk.

"Okay, here." Joann handed to her the phone.

"Thanks, cuz," she reached Joann's phone and immediately dialed Bella's number. Thank goodness she memorized it.

Then, just as quickly, she's in tears as she talks to her eighteen-year-old sister on the phone. Because what she thought that a simple problem is a serious problem. Their mother is in a critical condition, Bella said.

"How's your mother now? What did Bella say?" Joann asked her as she lowered the phone and pressed the end button.

She didn't answer right away. As if she had no strength that she returned Joann's phone first. Then she slumped down on the end of the bed and hugged her thin arms around her body.

"You okay?" Joann asked as she caresses her back.

And again, she sobbed. "She has Acute Kidney Failure because her kidneys have deteriorated and she needs to undergo dialysis while she has no kidney donor."

Joann puts a hand over her hand with shock.

Bea knew they had the same mindset of her cousin. It's about MONEY. Because anyone knows that when a doctor says the patient needs to be dialyzed, it is a lifelong cure and a lot of money is needed.

They remained silent for a few minutes. It seems they are drowning in problem right away, especially Bea. Where in the world will she get money every week for her mother's dialysis? Holy heavens!

"Don't worry, God has mercy, cuz. And we're here, we will help," after a couple of minutes, Joann told her and she can tell Joann was absolutely sincere. After all, when did her cousin leave her?

When she glanced up at Joann, she could no longer control the emotion. She hugged her and on her shoulder, she began to wail.

She thought her mother's problem was over. She thought her mother was safe from death already, but she was wrong. It was a big mistake for her to be complacent about her mother's condition. This is all her fault.

What will she do now? She has no job and she doesn't know when she'll be able to work again. And although she will now begin the search, there is still no guarantee that she will be hired immediately.

Hopeless, she weep even more.

Why is it that her life could be so complicated like this? It seems like there's this endless problem and misery. Actually, sometimes she wanted to give up. But because she loves her family so much, she couldn't.

"What else Bella said? What else is needed?" Joann asked her again as they parted from the hug after she cried.

"I need to send money because they don't have any to spend in the hospital for other expenses," she answered. She composed herself and wiped her tears.

"Do you still have money?"

She slowly nodded. "I still have but a small amount left."

"If so, send it to Bella now. They are pitiful at the hospital if it's true that they have no money even for food. Don't you worry, when my husband comes home, I'll tell him the problem right away."

"Thanks a lot, cuz."

Joann flashed her a fleeting smile. "Just don't give up on trials. Always remember that I'm always here for you, okay?"

She gave a brief nod and pushed at all her tumbling hair. She organized herself afterwards.

An hour later, Bea was in front of an ATM Machine. She rushed to withdraw her remaining money. Then she sent it to her sister.

She borrowed Joann's cell phone before she leaves the house. She claimed still that her phone was dead battery and that she can only delay if she will charge it. And in the meantime, she was relieved when she received a text from Bella saying that she already received the remittance.

Bea headed backward into the house afterwards. But nobody's home, even Joann is no where to be seen. Joann probably has a sudden client she needs to meet. Somehow her cousin's online shop is successful. And Joann's husband Dennis maybe won't be home from work yet. Dennis is a security guard at a mall so he may be on straight duty again. Actually, she had news that Dennis had been promoted to his work because of his hard work.

Bea no longer wonders why the couple had a gradually progressive in life.

God truly blesses good people.

Suddenly, her heart reacts erratically with that thought. She bit her lower lip. Because she thought, wasn't she kind? Why is she still out of luck? What does God intend for her? She knew she shouldn't question HIS plan for her, but she can't help herself.

She shook her head vigorously after she realized something. NO. She should not question God. Perhaps there is a reason for this to happen in her life, in her family. She should still trust in God.

Joann was right. She shouldn't give up. She just need to get more established and she will surely surpass this trial again, just like before.

There's a small smile on Bea's lips when she decided to go up to her room and fix herself. Instead of thinking nonsense and breaking down, she would just find a job.

But she was quite stunned when she opened the drawer where her clothes is, when her waitress's uniform was exposed in front of her.

"I'll pick you up tonight." She remembered Owell had told her when she had been taken home this morning. Owell really insisted on accompanying her so she had no choice.

She even remembered the money tip she had hidden under her clothes. She groped it. When she was holding the money, which almost two thousand pesos, she fell into deep thought again.

"Mom needs to get dialysis every week. And the Doctor said the dialysis fee is over two thousand pesos." She also remembered that Bella had told her at the call.

Eventually, a decision was finally made up in her mind. Right. Why would she even look for a job when she already has one? And in that job, money is very easy. There, in just a few hours, she can accumulate enough money for her mother's dialysis. She will never have to worry about money and feel anxious. She can extend her mother's life as long as she has money for her medication.

After Bea cleared up her mind and made a complete decision, she took off the uniform from the hanger. She didn't go out anymore, instead she washed her uniform so that she can wear it tonight...
