The Lost Heiress

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I still can’t believe of what happened to my father, the news that he dies on the way back to the kingdom. I kept on staring at the prepared food for me at the table; my hands are trembling while holding the spoon and fork. It’s ironic that this morning my breakfast was the bad news. I could feel the sadness of the soldiers and servants in this room when they also hear the news.

Mixed emotion, I don’t know what to feel. Three days ago when he said goodbye to attend a meeting from other kingdom, to make peace and unity to each other, and they were about to returned when the rebels attacked them, the rebel people who hates the monarchy and the ruler of the kingdom.

“I’m sorry dear princess,” Lady Monica sadly says.

I slowly glanced at her sad face, she has pity on me. The only child and the last line of the family Amidel, my mother died when I was born and then my father is gone too. I can’t breathe, too much feeling right now that I couldn’t handle.

I took off my spoon and fork, and ran back to my room, I heard her calling my name but I didn’t stop until I got back to my room, all my sadness and anger came out as I closed the door, I cried out loud because of the pain.

Two days passed without leaving the room, can’t talk, can’t eat and can’t sleep, all I can do was cried, even when my father’s body arrived, and I still couldn’t take a look at his corpse. I was just forced to come out of my room when Lady Monica said that this is the day of my father’s funeral.

I stared at my own reflection in the mirror while the two maids is carefully fixing my hair, I see black under my eyes and puffy eyes, I’m wearing plain black dress below the knee, with three-forth length sleeve. I heard knocked at the door before it opened, and then I saw Lady Monica wearing a plain black gown.

Lady Monica is like mother me, she has taken care of me since childhood, and she knows everything about me, because she was the daughter of the chief maid in the palace who passed away years ago, she was the personal servant of my father from the time he was a prince and became a king.

She was also became my mother’s friend, she always said that I looked like my mother, so out of all my father’s followers he trusted Lady Monica.

“Are you ready, my princess?” She delight asked.

I just nodded as yes for my answered to her.

She smiled shyly, I still saw mercy in her eyes for me, but I just ignored it as we walked. There were two soldiers in front of me leading the way, while Lady Monica was following behind me and my four servants and ten soldiers came after us.

When we get down and entered the hall, I felt my chest tightness and couldn’t breathe properly, I don’t know if because of the crowded room or because I saw the coffin of my father, over the coffin I could see small white butterflies flying, different flowers that come from different royal guests. I couldn’t see their reaction because I was just looking at the coffin, I want to cry but I have been taught to control my emotions and I can’t let them see how vulnerable I am, because I’m a princess and soon to be queen of this kingdom.

When the priest started the ceremony everyone was silent, I feel Lady Monica’s hand holding mine as if to calm me down, because she knew anytime I might not be able to handle the emotion I was about to explode. When the mass was over we had to put flowers on the coffin, I was the first. I got up and walked to the coffin while holding the flower, and I could feel their eyes looking at me.

When I was in front, I couldn’t even look at my dad’s face even a second, I just put the flower on her chest, and returned to my sit. I started to hear noise around me, as if I had done something wrong in their eyes.

“What kind of princess she was and she didn’t care about her father’s death.

“Is that the next queen of the kingdom?

“She didn’t even get the good behaviour of her father.

Since everyone knows that the heirs are not a princes and a princess, I’ve received a lot of bad comments, they didn’t know what I am going through right now, they don’t even know the feeling of growing up without a mother and lose a father, never know here to go, all you do and say is wrong for them.

“Don’t worry about them,” Lady Monica whispered to me.

When everything was over and my father was buried, I need to attend to the council meeting, all of a sudden they called a meeting and I don’t know why.

When I entered the room, I heard the door closing behind me, the fifteen council members were silent, they were wearing their elegant uniforms at this meeting, wearing long maroon robes, sitting in their throne, they seat in U shaped form and in the middle their a one seat for me.

“Were here to gather and tell you the next step you need to do for the kingdom,” says the oldest person in charge of the group, councillor Dalton, his cracked voice echoing to this room.

“The council voted that you have to take your crown as a queen of this kingdom,” he added, while the others are just nodded as agreeing to the statement.

‘Are they in a hurry?’ I thought. I’m still wearing my funeral attire, a minute ago my father just buried, and know and they called me to say that I needed to lead the kingdom.

“Excuse me my lord,” I said and they were all focused on me. “It seems too early for my age to be a queen?
