Chapter 2

“You have done well in keeping the royal family safe these past few years” The Count’s cold voice reached her ears and responded accordingly with a simple curtsy and her usual smile that never seemed to have come from the heart.

“Thank you for your praise, Count. It was thanks to your household’s teachings that I had been able to grow into a proper magician befitting your house’s reputation.

Neither overbearing nor servile, the Count nodded his head in satisfaction, “Yes…it was thanks to our household that your talents bloomed beautifully…”, he echoed as if to remind her of her roots.

“Solia, just as the Count had mentioned, you had done well despite your young age and we would like to assign to you another mission of vital importance” The King whose countenance barely showed any signs of aging spoke up, capturing the attention of the young girl when she caught traces of solemnness in his voice.

“We will be sending you to the frontlines” The Count promptly declared, not even asking for Solia’s opinion.

“The opposing country has allied itself with the demons, thus all reinforcements sent have simply become a free feast to them” Listening to the Count’s explanation, Solia simply nodded in silence as she went into a deep thought.

Indeed…sending humans to battle against the demons is simply similar to wasting lives when they can barely even use magic and aren’t heroes…maybe I could also use this chance to…

Snapping out of her thoughts, Solia’s eyes brightened as she set a steady gaze towards the pair of men in front of her, “I will depart at once to put an early closure to this war”

As someone who had become known for her abilities, there had been an agreement between the different empires that banned her from participating in the fights between them as they all made sure to place numerous restraints on her actions even when simply visiting a different area, however, the opposing country was the one that had stepped over their boundaries first by colluding with the demons this time, hence, Solia refused to let go of this chance to travel that came only once in a blue moon.

Abiding by her words, she immediately set off midday with a small luggage on hand. Rather than using magic to rush her way to the frontlines, she decided against it as a safety precaution in case there’s a situation wherein a need for her to expend a colossal amount of magic at once arises. After all, it takes quite a while for magicians to recover their used magic unless they use special means in doing so.

Going through one town after the other, Solia’s sights met with the different kinds of races. The beast kin with their grey eyes that signified their bloodline, the semi-gods whose irises consisted of beautiful shades of purple according to how deeply related they were to the gods, her fellow ruby-eyed magicians whose names became well-known throughout the empire, and the commoners whose eyes were different shades of brown that signified their lack of magic.

The more she looked around, the more her eyes sparkled at the new sceneries her eyes laid upon, and the more she ventured out, the more the gazes of the townspeople filled with admiration landed on her without her realizing. I mean, who doesn’t like staring at good looking and powerful beings?

With her pale skin being as smooth as paper, paired with her midnight-blue locks and glimmering bloody eyes, Solia looked like a beautiful vampire who was crowned the Goddess of the Night as she wandered through town in her simple and clean attire. However, there was still no one who dared to get near the girl with bloody red eyes as they continued to gaze at her from a distance.

Not long after, Solia arrived at the frontline base in which she was personally escorted by the captain of the knights to welcome her as her eyes dimmed at the scenery before her. Numerous soldiers were fatally wounded with missing limbs here and there as more patients were being rushed inside the camp. As the sounds of the nearby battle grew louder, the scent of blood mixed with rotten flesh became more prominent as well.

Solia proceeded to scan her surroundings and easily shot down the demon hovering above their camp which caused a commotion to rise amongst the remaining conscious soldiers within the camp, reverence gradually painting their gazes towards the young girl in neat clothing standing amidst the bloody camp.

Looking at the corpse of the demon, Solia’s eyes gradually turned chilly as she turned her head towards the direction of the battle.

I may have had a different agenda in coming here today but I’m still a citizen of that empire and so are my birth parents…

With those thoughts running through her head, she tilted her head towards the captain escorting her before speaking with a frosty smile.

“Have everyone retreat” Leaving those three words, Solia strode forward to the battlefield with her back straight and an icy temperament. It didn’t take long for her to arrive at the frontlines and easily gather up the remaining soldiers still engaged in battle before sending them back to the camp with a few chants.

The demons, along with the opposing soldiers, suddenly froze in place at the appearance of a young girl the age of 16 whose mere presence caused the air around them to plummet down into a freezing temperature.

“So you were the ones causing trouble for my fellow citizens ey?” As the girl’s eyes of intense crimson travelled amongst their figures, both demons and mortals alike felt chills crawling up their spines as they gradually stepped back without even noticing it.

Seeing that they simply stood in place, Solia’s impatience grew as she continued speaking, “I was originally just planning to lend a hand since I was after all still raised in this empire, however, I changed my mind just now and would have to apologize in cutting our precious first encounter short.

Hearing her words, the opposing party’s complexion paled with cold sweat soaking their palms and back as a foreboding feeling overcame them. After all, Solia was not bestowed upon the name “Sorceress” within the realm of the magicians for no reason.

She had proved herself time and time again by breaking existing records and boundaries as she discovered spells unknown to existence amidst the warring battles she had participated in as the representative of the Count’s house despite being a mere slave of their household.

It was said that the Count never dared to adopt her into his family mainly due to the fact that her abilities had been far too strong for even their household to repress, therefore, he stuck with the forbidden slave-marking process in which an ancient seal is placed on the slave for life. The aforementioned seal forces the slave to abide by the master’s orders when triggered, and the Count made very good use of that as he sent Solia from one battle against the demon clan to another.

“Well then, it is time to bid each other farewell” Showing a cold smile to those she deemed as nuisances in front of her, it was only then that the demons and soldiers alike reacted with one single thought passing through their heads.

Ah…we’re gonna die…
