AUTHOR POV:

Morning came and Madison woke up to hearing her phone ringing. Her eyelids fluttered open, and she groggily got up to get her phone from off the bedside table.

She checked the caller id and saw it was her brother. Her lips turned upwards and a smile formed on her face seeing that her brother was calling her. She answered the phone, almost all her sleepiness gone.

"Hey Tyler, I miss you so much," Madison painfully said over the phone in happiness.

"Good morning little one, I miss you too." Tyler responded with equal happiness.

"Aww c'mon, I'm not little anymore. If you forgot, I am in college big bro..." She geekily said.

"Yeah yeah, I know Maddy but you're still my little sister," He said back.

"Sure...how are you today?" Madison asked her brother.

"I am doing great, especially now that I hear your voice. Everyone over here is great, how are you? I hope college is treating you nice..."

Madison sighed and paused for a moment before answering him. "That's really awesome, I am doing okay. College is fine too," Her smile died down a little with her brother's question.

The truth was, she wasn't doing all that okay and college wasn't treating her well...but there was no way she would tell her brother this.

"That's great Maddy, but are you sure you're okay? You seem a bit reluctant..." Tyler was curious about his sister's well-being and honesty about her college life.

"Ye-yeah, everything is great. I promise you don't have to worry about me, okay big bro?" She replied with hidden pain of lying to her brother about her situation.

"Okay, fine.. Well did I wake you this morning or were you already up?" He asked her.

"Well I won't lie, when you called I was in the middle of my beauty sleep. I was planning on waking up a few minutes later." She rolled her eyes at her brother's question, forgetting he couldn't see her.

He laughed over the phone and her smile returned on her face hearing her brother laugh. She couldn't help but be happy that her brother was happy.

"Ha! We all know when it comes to beauty sleep, you're a goner...I'm glad I called," Tyler playfully said to her.

"Very funny Ty," she responded holding her hands to her chest while softly laughing.

"What? We all know it's true," His tone was soft and playful towards his sister.

"Well we can discuss if it's true or not once I get back from school?" She asked her brother.

"Yeah of course sis, I'll be waiting..." He replied.

"I love you, tell the fam I said hey and I love them too!" Madison said sweetly.

"I will, and we all love you too. Take care Maddy"

"You too," She blew a kiss over the phone and disconnected the call after.

Her smile stayed on her face the entire time she got ready for school. Every bad thought that dared to cross her mind was blocked with the memory of her happy phone call with her brother.

She knew the feeling wasn't going to last, but she was going to savor the good feeling and hope that today will go a little better. While getting dressed, she played some music which helped her heart to smile and feel motivated.

She couldn't let the bad things get to her, for she wanted to look on the bright side of things. Once she got dressed, she put her headphones in her ears, her phone in her back pocket, and left her dorm.

Madison was to share a dorm room with someone, but since the day she moved into it, she never once came across the other dorm-mate. Her thoughts went to her family, while her body softly moved to the beats of the music as she was walking towards campus.

Opening her locker, she picked up her books and closed it back. Not one of her friends were in sight and it didn't go unnoticed by her. She looked around but found them nowhere.

"Maybe they're just late or something..." Madison mumbled under her breath.

She continued walking towards her first class, only to be stopped when she accidentally ran into someone while not paying attention.

Lucky a little, her books didn't fall but the run-in was hard enough to almost make her fall completely. She steadied herself and looked up the moment she heard a voice.

"Hey are you okay?" The husky voice but sweet tone of a guy asked her.

She was speechless for a few moments. All she could do was look at him and her jaw unintentionally dropped a little. She quickly closed it before he could notice, but he was immune to the stares that he gets from girls.

She didn't want to admit it to herself, but she found her legs becoming jelly in front of a guy that she thought was cute. Madison wasn't the type who ran after guys, let alone even giving them a second of her time unless it was forced.

This was a big deal, she was shocked that her reaction towards him was so foreign and weird. They held eye contact for a few moments, before she heard him speaking again.

"Hello?" He softly waved his hand in front of her face and she snapped out her daze.

"Oh...I- I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going..." She stuttered a little with her words.

"No, it's okay. No need for apologies," He replied with a sweet smile.

She felt something in her melt looking at him smile. This wasn't typically what she was used to and it hadn't ever happened before. It was a new feeling she wasn't used to, and it was a surprise for her.

"Yeah, o-okay..." Her words continued to mess up under the influence of him.

When Nicholas first looked at her, he was taken aback a little. The moment she lifted her head up to face him, his gaze caught her eyes. She had beautiful eyes, but it was something else he didn't expect to feel.

Her features and personality shocked him. In his perspective, she seemed sweet and nice. Her apologies were shrugged off by him, and he found himself smiling at her.

He hadn't ever paid attention to girls, for Rebecca was the only girl for him. He was shocked at himself, that he was giving her attention he didn't give other girls besides his girlfriend.

Nicholas found himself a little guilty, because he was looking at another girl with weird unexplainable feelings. His inner self couldn't help but want to know more about the girl, for she seemed interesting and he found himself curious about her.

"What's your name?" Nicholas asked Madison.

"Who me?" She pointed towards herself innocently.

"Yeah you," he laughed at her oblivion.

"Oh, I am M-madison but everyone mostly calls me Maddy or Mads." Her words came out rushed, the inside of her body was heated with embarrassment.

"Ok Madison, I'm Nicholas," He said back with a smile in her direction.

Madison loved the way her name rolled off his tongue and this was crazy for her to even think about. Anyone else who were to call her name, she would be completely unaffected. So her reaction towards him saying her name was extremely shocking. What was different about him than everyone else, she didn't know.

Nicholas liked her name for some reason, and he couldn't understand himself anymore. It wasn't unnoticed by him how she reacted in front of him but it wasn't a new thing. What was new was the interactions between him and the girl in front of him.

"Oh okay," Madison said back.

She slapped her forehead with her hand, because of the words that she spoke. 'How stupid was that? Oh okay? What's wrong with you Maddy!' Her thoughts screamed.

Both Nicholas and Madison were silent after that. The silence between the two were awkward, and no doubt they were both uncomfortable.

The next moment was something Nicholas didn't want. Coming up on side of him was his one and only girlfriend, Rebecca.

"Hey Nick, I was looking for you..." Rebecca kissed his cheek.

Rebecca was always a sweet girl and never was snotty towards anyone. This didn't stop her from being jealous just a little though.

She was always insecure when it came to her and her relationship with Nicholas. Girls always tried to get his attention, and it always scared her that one day he would pay attention to one of them and rethink what they had.

Sometimes Nicholas didn't think she was paying much attention, but she always felt happy when he ignored the desperate girls who tried to speak to him. Rebecca didn't want to feel this way, but she was surprised when she found her boyfriend talking to a girl.

The girl didn't seem like every other girl she saw, but she didn't want her around him at all.

Madison felt uncomfortable and so did Nicholas. Their faces were slightly flushed in embarrassment of being caught by Rebecca, even though nothing happened between them.

Madison's mind was screaming danger and to run, so to get herself out of the sticky situation that was immune to not go well...she spoke up.

"Well I need to go, don't wanna be late for class..." She said to him with a small smile, her eyes lowered to her shoes with just one look at the harmless Rebecca.

She wasn't scared of her, but she was scared to be caught in the middle of more drama than she already was. It was already horrible that she had problems with the so-called "Queen of College" and her friends.

"Yeah okay, me too..." He lowered his gaze on her as well.

Rebecca silently analyzed the interactions between Madison and Nicholas, her brows furrowed upwards in curiosity. Nicholas knew how his girlfriend felt, so he diverted his attention to his girlfriend.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know...let's go." He held his girlfriends hand and they walked together, while Madison was far ahead of them.

Her heart was racing, and all she wanted was to vanish from reality. Madison hoped Rebecca wouldn't kill her or make her life even worse because she was talking to her boyfriend.

Madison got to class and sat down in her usual spot. Nicholas and Rebecca held a small conversation while he walked her to class. He gave her a cheek before leaving to go to his class.

He walked in and neither of them noticed one another or the fact they shared a classroom, until his eyes unintentionally roamed the classroom, and found her sitting some seats up towards the front of the class.

It was the same for Madison and the moment her gaze fell on Nicholas, her breath hitched. She couldn't believe she and him were classmates, and neither could he.

They didn't say a word, and both were interrupted when extra people started to fill the rest of the classroom. Madison found Jack, and he sat a few seats away from her.

His intentions were to give her space since that was what she obviously wanted from them, but she took it as if he was mad at her. She set a reminder in her head to clear things with Jack and her other friends during free time.

Nicholas' attention was removed away from Madison when his friends, Andrew and Jason, walked into the classroom and sat on either side of him. Madison looked back at him and saw this.

When her eyes trailed to who was on side of Nicholas, her eyelids were wide open. Shock was evident on her face looking at him with Jason.

She didn't know they were friends or that they hung out. Madison didn't want anything to do with him, for who he dealt with was in a relationship with her bully.

Madison quickly turned her head forwards and gave her attention to what her professor was speaking in class, but her mind was on him and his friends the entire time.
