CHAPTER 7 – Andrew

-Asha-

I stared blankly at the house in front of me. It’s rather larger than what Zeus described as a “small cottage”. However, I did like that the house was made entirely of wood and gave off a homey feeling. I felt Zeus pass by me in his super speed, busy unloading our stuff from the trip since he didn’t let Gemini drive us home when he met us at the airport. I suddenly had a thought and looked around, I remembered passing by some houses when we were driving by but it seems I didn’t have to worry about anyone seeing Zeus and his powers since we were a bit isolated from the rest and the property is surrounded with plants and trees. My like level for this house just increased. Suddenly, my feet left the ground and I felt a sudden fear when I felt a rush of air and the sudden blur of my surroundings. However, the things around me suddenly stilled and I found myself in the arms of Zeus and inside the house.

The first thing I noticed was the large, ancient – modern chandelier since I was being carried princess – style and has no choice but to look up. I suddenly felt a tinge of annoyance and kicked Zeus when he finally set me down but of course the vampire did not even budge from the kick.

“You could have at least given me a warning that you were going to carry me. Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!

“I’m sorry honey.” He said as he massaged my shoulders.

I had started to bicker with him after the night that I seduced him. If it was because I seem to have felt closer to him after making love or because I had confirmed my feelings for him, the familiar feeling of fondness had returned once again. Of course, I wouldn’t tell him that. Let him suffer for a while or woo me for a while. However, my thoughts came into a halt when I finally focused on the interior of the house. The whole 1st floor is an open space where the kitchen, dining area and the living room is not separated by any wall. The most captivating thing is that part of the 2nd floor was designed to accommodate the large window that dominated one side of the wall of both the 1st and 2nd floor. Upstairs is definitely the bedrooms.

“Do you like it?” Zeus asked in a gentle tone.

“Yes, very much.

“Good because this will be our home from now on.” My heart fluttered by his words but I did not say anything.

Suddenly, I felt a chill behind me and I froze. When Zeus touched my shoulder, I suddenly had a bad foreboding but before I could react, I was once again carried and sped off to the bedroom. Zeus has truly turned into a monster since that night. The next day, I went to work in my usual time with the difficulty of walking and forcing myself to appear as normal as possible when I passed by the lobby but it seems that it didn’t work because I could feel my employees stare at me weirdly despite their normal greetings. I willed the elevator to come and go faster so I can hide in my office and plot the murder of my husband.

“Do you know what the employees are saying about you?” Andrew had immediately asked when he entered my office first thing in the morning. I glared at him and he laughed. “They said that the madam is blooming like a woman in love, she had given off a gentle aura when she walked by this morning.

“They said that?” I was preparing to hear something about my wobbly legs or something similar.

“I was also surprised but it seems you are really blooming today. Did you make up with him?” There was a light teasing on Andrew’s voice.

“Yes but I’m going to murder him tonight when I get home.” I muttered while I browsed through the file that Andrew handed over. I noticed Andrew’s silence then and looked up. He was looking at me with a weird expression. “What?

“Nothing. I’m just glad. I haven’t seen or hear you like this for a long time.” His comment made me blush and I busied myself with reading the file to avoid answering. I didn’t know what to say.

“Why don’t we include the female part timers and the interns on these incentives?” I asked after reading the revised company policy and employee benefits for final implementation.

“That’s a great idea but we’ll have to test run it first. It might make the casual employees relax.

“Their incentives will of course still be limited but how about we test this on one of the female interns at the finance department.” I said as I remembered the intern I met in the elevator the other day.

“What do you mean? There are only male interns in the finance department this month.” I looked up in surprise but then I saw Andrew’s face change. “Actually, I did remember something. A week ago, a female intern was let go after someone leaked her side-job during her university days as a prostitute. They had confirmed she had already left that kind of job but she was still let go after being humiliated in the HR department.” My face darkened and a burst of anger suddenly formed in my chest as I remembered my saint parents.

“Fire everyone who was involved in that intern’s incident. Replace them immediately! I will not allow any discrimination to happen in my company! Let this be a warning to everyone!

“Calm down. You’re making a decision out of anger. I will handle this but it won’t be on the reason that you stated. Your image is still important.” Andrew gently comforted.

“Fine but at least tell me what you’re going to do.

“The HR department has been too careless recently. I know that their violations on the company rules are petty but it will also serve as a warning for everyone. Of course, I won’t fail to mention that intern’s incident.

“Also bring that intern back with a job offer after graduation if she does well during her internship.

As expected of Andrew, 6 people were fired in the HR department and it made a buzz in the company. However, I had the chance of being with Andrew since the day my parents passed away, that’s why I know that this was just a petty scheming on his mind, he holds a lot more in his mind with his experience in the business world. He was born a genius and supposed to be another prodigy in the business world but he was suddenly thrown to prison for the murder of his father. His story was the typical family abuse until he couldn’t control himself and stabbed his father to death to protect his mother and sister but the media had portrayed it badly, focusing only on the brutal way he murdered his father, not on the reason why. After he was released, no one wanted to take him in, not even his ungrateful mother and sister, and he worked odd jobs in order to survive until my father found him. My father only cared about Andrew’s talent in business and hired him directly as a secretary to also serve as my parent’s adviser and right hand man. Many questioned my stubborn father’s decision then but they shut up as time went by and really saw what Andrew was capable of. Andrew earns a fortune and also owns 3% of the company shares but he never stopped or resigned as a secretary because he was too indebted to my father for the second life he gave him. I could not also imagine my life without Andrew now but I could see him getting past the age of marriage and having a family of his own but I couldn’t say anything because it’s his life and I honestly don’t know how to let him go, this is me being selfish. I suddenly felt depressed.
