CHAPTER 3 – The Contract

-Zeus-

The business lunch had lasted 3 hours longer than I expected. However, I took my time returning to my company when it was finished. As I sat in the car driven by Gemini, I looked out the window only to coincidentally see Andrew, Asha’s secretary, coming out of a café. My line of thoughts immediately went to Asha. I kept an eye on her after her parents passed away and since then I had no chance to see her personally since she stopped coming to school and took her lessons privately with a tutor to accommodate her schedule as the new CEO of the Carlisle Empire. I had become close to a stalker on those years but I forced myself to stop just a year ago after I forced myself to accept that she will never come back to me but it’s still hard giving her up.

“Sir, an employee from Carlisle Empire is in the lounge. He said he has something important to give you.” I stopped on my tracks and held myself back from touching one of my female secretaries to see if she was just an illusion, an effect of thinking of Asha on the way back.

“Carlisle Empire? Are you sure?” I confirmed once again.

“Yes sir. We had checked properly and did not dare turn him away.

“Send him to my office.

I once had a thought of forming a business alliance with Carlisle Empire with the hidden intention of getting close to Asha but I stopped myself from doing the unthinkable. Carlisle Empire and Mason Inc. are one of the top leading business companies in the business world internationally, if they collaborate together then it will be good news but not to some rival companies. When someone is threatened then they are forced to take actions that are quite dangerous and I feared for Asha’s safety especially when I was not beside her.

“No need for the pleasantries, get to the point.” I said immediately when a young man was led to my office.

“I was only told to handle this to you personally.” The young man said in a weak voice as he handed over an envelope. Humans always tend to do that automatically when they get near us vampires. It’s a natural reaction since humans were just foods to us in ancient times but our appetite has changed to animal blood for a long time now with a few incidences of vampires drinking human blood.

I could smell the young man’s scent from the envelope but I also detected it, the faint scent of Asha. I ripped the envelope open when the young man left and read the contents quickly. In the end, I was dumbfounded and reread the content for a few more times before I was convinced that this isn’t a trick. Suddenly I was laughing. I had never thought that the gods favoured me this much to give me such an opportunity. I turned to my laptop and started typing.

“Gemini.” I said in my casual voice but I know he heard me. He entered my office after a second. “Take this to Asha.

-Asha-

Party A – Asha Carlisle

Party B – Zeus Mason

1. Party A and Party B will be a real married couple and will live together in XXX address.

2. Party A must remain loyal to Party B during their married life.

3. Party B can be the only one who can decide future divorce decisions of both Party A and Party B.

I speechlessly read through the content of the envelope that Gemini handed to me. I didn’t expect that Zeus would give me an answer immediately or rather in just hours when I sent him the will. I also did not expect that he’d send a ridiculous contract in return. Although I admit that my heart’s beating accelerated. In the end, I could only sigh and signed the contract before handling it over to Gemini who was watching and waiting quietly on one corner. I had gotten used to his almost invisible presence back then but now, I’ve returned to being wary of him. However, I am most confused with Zeus and his contract. What exactly is that man planning? It’s easy to accept it though since it doesn’t involve or say anything about the company.

“Are you okay?” Andrew suddenly asked and I looked at him before realizing that I zoned out in the middle of his updates of my schedule for the week, the first time.

“I’m getting married.” I blurted out and he dramatically almost dropped the notebook he was holding.

“You’re what?

“Getting married.” I confirmed and he opened his mouth then closed it again like a fish.

“To whom?” He finally asked when he got his voice back.

“Zeus Mason.” I saw Andrew sigh afterward. It was a sigh of relief as he relaxed. “Why are you suddenly relieved?

“I’m just relieved that it’s not with a complete stranger. I won’t ask for the reason of this marriage as long as you are happy.

“…” How can he say that I’m happy?

No one knew the reason as to why Zeus and I broke up. The death of my parents had immediately followed the incident that a trivial matter was quickly forgotten, even I forgot the pain that he had initially caused but when I thought back now, I was starting to doubt what I really saw that day. The image is still fresh and clear in my mind but I know something is amiss or my memory is being altered by the incidents that followed. There were times when I would think back and the image of his eyes would be focused on my visions. I haven’t seen Zeus since then, the only news that reached my busy self about him was his ascension of his family’s company and the loud achievements he has done. If I still had feelings for him, I could not tell because I started feeling like I don’t really know myself anymore, I haven’t been focusing on myself for a long time now, a very long time.

“I want to get married secretly.” I hesitated before pressing send. I know he’ll understand my intention but I just hope he didn’t change his private email. I stared at my message for a while not taking notice of how I was biting my lips and blushing while Andrew came in and was watching me.
