Chapter 2

Hailey-

I sat by my bedroom window and played music on my mobile phone, the day was grey and rainy. It was already Friday, a few hours ago I came back from school and in all week I didn't see Travis, maybe I had taken seriously the last words he said to me on Tuesday when he brought me home "See you tomorrow", sometimes I am a bit silly. I tried to focus on my schoolwork and unplug my thoughts, although I always spend my time thinking about everything in my life and even what is not, the rainy days make me more immersed in that and nobody wants to read my philosophical thoughts, otherwise they would read books about philosophy. I read what I should do and every word bored me more and more, I am not interested at all in Physics and I do not think it will help me in the future. I gave up and closed the books, left them on my bed, and lay down beside them. I felt weird, maybe I had some hope of socializing with Travis again and I'm disappointed that it didn't hap-pen. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to visualize the first thing that came my way, to get me out of my reality, but my cell phone rang in notification and I complained. I grabbed it tired and looked at the screen, it was a message from Logan.

"Princess! What are you doing tonight? Nothing, I hope, because we're going to Jeffrey's party! "- Logan. (sent 6:45pm - seen by Hailey)

I frowned in confusion.

"Who's Jeffrey?"- Halley. (sent 6:46 p.m. - seen by Logan)

"A friend, he's from the football team  "- Logan. (sent 6:46pm - seen by Hailey)

"And I don't give you time to deny it, at 9 pm I'll pick you up, honey."- Logan. (sent 6:46 pm - seen by Hailey)

I rolled my eyes and just accepted Logan's proposal, because I knew I had no other choice.

"All right!" - Hailey. (sent 6:47pm)

I blocked my cell phone and put it away. I thought about the party, it's not that I didn't like going to parties, but I don't like people at parties, suddenly everyone is your friend and only because of the effect of alcohol or drugs. Typical teenagers who try to have fun as if there is no tomorrow, I don't like those. If I had other plans and they were given to me to choose from it and go to a high school party, I would indeed choose the other plans, but here there are no other plans so it's time to go to the evolutionary hormone party. I got out of bed and walked to my bathroom, looked in the mirror and knew I was a mess, I needed a shower. It was only 7 pm and Logan was going to pick me up at 9 pm, which gives me time to shower and get ready, I take too long to shower, so the time was right. I went back to my room, I was trying to find something to wear, but I really didn't know what to wear, I wouldn't go as I usually do and I usually don't go out to parties much, so I always had a hard time choosing clothes. I remembered that Andrew's girlfriend Maddy was at my house so she could be a big help to me. I went down to the living room where she was, she was lying on the couch in front of the TV, but she was looking at her cell phone.

“Maddy,” I called her once when I was in the room.

“What do you need, sweetie?” she put her cell phone away to pay attention to me, I sat in the corner of the couch.

I took a few seconds to analyze her; Maddy: long coppery hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She is a very nice and beautiful girl, Andrew met her in the university and they have been dating for 3 years, as I know my brother I know he is very lucky to have her because she is not the typical basic girl that boys usually go to, but she is very intelligent and her beauty makes you think the opposite, as everyone is carried away by stereotypes. She is like a sister to me and also a psychologist, since she is studying that profession, and the truth has helped me a lot in several of my worst moments.

“I need your help with...

“Guys?” she interrupted me, “did they hurt you? we can tell your brother and...

“No,” I interrupted her and laughed, she is very protective with me, “I'm going to a party with Logan tonight and I don't know what to wear.

“Say no more, you go take a shower while I find something for you,” Gave me a smile.

I obeyed her and went to take a shower.

(…)

“I can't wear that,” I said when I saw the dress Maddy was giving me.

“Why not? It's beautiful!” She admired the black and silver dress she had in her hands.

“Absolutely not my type,” I sat on the bed.

“But it's perfect for you, everyone will drool over you,” she sat next to me, “don't tell your brother, but when I was single and wore this dress everyone died for me.

“Everyone is still dying for you, Maddy” I sighed.

“And now they'll do it for you, aren't you dying for Travis to notice you tonight?” I looked at her in surprise.

“Why do you say that?

“I guessed it,” I raised an eyebrow to get her to tell the truth, “your mother told me he brought you home the other day and I saw you stalking her social networks on a few occasions.

I forgot to mention: Maddy has been living with us since she met Andrew, since she has problems with her parents.

“I'm not going to lie to you," I took the dress to look at it in detail so I wouldn't have to look her in the eye, "if I like him, I like him a little bit.

“Are you sure? Not even a little bit more?

“Very safe.

“And how handsome do you think he is?

Phew! More than too much.

“A little bit, too,” she rolled her eyes at my answer.

“I know you're lying to me, but I'll let you off this time," she got up from her bed, "now put on that dress and the heels you have that I love so much, you'll see that you'll look beautiful, listen to me.

-No...

“no argument,” She interrupted me, “You call me when you are ready, I left your brother baking a cake and that is very dangerous," we laughed and she left the room, leaving me alone in that beautiful dress.

I feel that wearing a dress and heels to a party is too much, or maybe not, but it's definitely not my style, so I wasn't so sure I'd wear that and I'd probably end up wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

I stood up with the dress in my hands and walked to the big mirror in the corner of my room, I put the dress in front of me trying to visualize how it would look and I really liked it too much, but my insecurities made me too afraid and for now nothing could beat that. I sighed and pulled my hair forward, focused on the pink color that covered the ends of my hair and couldn't help but remember when Travis said he liked it that way, he also said he thought it was cute. I shook my head trying to focus on the present. Why should I think about that? We talked once, he was kind enough to bring me home and showed no other intentions, so I shouldn't interpret his kindness as flirting. I'd have to start forgetting about that boy if I don't want to have sentimental and psychological damage.

I looked at the dress again and thought about it, it was my last year, I wouldn't have to worry about what people think of me and I don't think anyone will pay attention to me. Also, the dress was beautiful; it wasn't completely black, it had sequins that reflected the light and made it look a little silver sometimes, it had a v neck and that made me nervous.

I ended up wearing the dress and the heels that Maddy said, I looked beautiful and it didn't show at all, so I didn't feel it was inappropriate, but the heels were too much and that's why I decided to replace them with my olds black Vans, that gave it my personality touch.

What I did next was brush my hair and let it down, then I put on almost natural makeup and I was ready, you don't need much science to go to a party. So I grabbed a crossover bag and put away things I needed, like my cell phone and wallet with money, along with my ID and license card in case Logan ended up drunk. I went downstairs and went straight to the kitchen, where I deduced that Maddy would be there because of the smell of cake coming from there.

“You look beautiful!” she shrieked excitedly when she saw me, she had a kitchen apron and her hair up, so I guess she ended up making the cake.

“Here's the cake," said Andrew, taking the cake out of the oven and leaving it on the table, "it's a bit burnt," he grimaced, he was tender.

“We can still save him, honey," said Maddy and hugged him, comforting him.

“What are you doing dressed like that, Hailey?" asked Matthew as he entered the kitchen.

“Hailey?” Andrew seemed to notice my presence, “What are you doing dressed like that?

“I just asked that," said Matthew.

If it weren't for Matthew having brown hair and Andrew having blonde hair, it would be a bit difficult to tell them apart as some people think they are identical twins, but they are fraternal twins, luckily they have differences otherwise it would be uncomfortable for Maddy.

“I'm going to a party with Logan," I said.

“But why do you dress like that?” asked Matthew.

“Why shouldn't I?” I crossed my arms.

“Because I think it's dangerous for you to go out in the street like this, there are a lot of perverts out there," excused Matthew.

“Leave her alone, nothing will happen to her," defended Maddy, "they're just jealous”

“We're not jealous, we're just protecting her," said Andrew, trying to unmold the cake.

“Yes, they are, they always are," said Mom, appearing in the kitchen and standing next to Andrew, who was still struggling to unmold that cake.

“Not true,” Matthew pouted.

“She can dress up as she likes, you can't decide for her," Mom said.

“But...

“There's no buts, you do what I say,” Mommy interrupted Matthew, “and that cake looks terrible, Andrew.

“Thank you, I love you too, Mommy," said Andrew sarcastically and she came out of the kitchen laughing.

I sat down at the bar of the kitchen and looked at the time on my cell phone, it was 8:54 pm, Logan was about to arrive and I was already regretting it, maybe my brothers were right and something could happen to me, although I would be next to Logan all the time, so that makes me feel safe. I watched Andrew and Maddy trying to unmold that cake they had made together, although I could tell she had let Andrew do it, because Maddy can cook perfectly and that didn't look too good. It saddens me to know what Maddy had to go through as a child, to fend for herself at an early age, but I'm glad she managed to overcome that and find her love, as well as win a new family. Sometimes I envy the love you have for each other, hopefully one day I can have something like that with someone.

“Hailey,” Matthew called me, “Logan's waiting for you outside.

“Right,” I got up from my seat and he hugged me.

“Take care, don't let them drug you or overdo it with you," he said with a slightly scowling frown, "if you need anything just call me.

“I know, I'm not ten, Matthy.

“That's why I say it,” I rolled my eyes and kissed his cheek.

I said goodbye to everyone and went out, my friend was standing on the porch of the house, I noticed that it was already dark.

“Wow, Maddy did a great job," said Logan when he saw me.

“What makes you think it was Maddy who picked out my outfit?” He raised an eyebrow, “All right, she did it.

“Shall we?” I nodded and we got into his car.

The rain had stopped a few hours ago, but the night was still damp and somewhat cool, it could be cooler in a while and I hadn't brought a coat. I looked at Logan who was already driving to the party, and I was curious to know what he was thinking.

“I never asked you, but why couldn't you take me home on Tuesday?” I asked.

“Mm, the coach kept me because he thinks I should improve my ability to play so I spent a few extra hours training” I felt I was nervous, usually I can always tell if he's lying to me thanks to a psychological technique Maddy taught me, but now it wasn't working as he was watching the road.

“Is there anything else you're not telling me?

“No, that's just it, why do you ask?” He stopped at a red light and looked at me.

“No reason, just curious,” now I was the one who was nervous, I didn't want him to think that I don't trust him, “don't get you wrong me.

“I don't, girl," he laughed and looked back at the road, as the light turned green again.

I sighed and looked out the window, I got a strange feeling and I think it's not good.
