Chapter 6: Working

"Enjoying your first night?" A low manly voice spoke behind me while I was moping the VIP section floor.

I flinched and turned to see Mr. Cloud behind me. He was standing there, wearing his suite that adds to his charism with his arms crossed. He was looking intently at me.

"Um, yeah!" I awkwardly replied, making a cheerful voice. "I enjoyed my first day, Sir. Thank you very much."

He smiled and nodded. "Good. Are the girls treating you right? I told them not to give you all the jobs if necessary."

"I'm fine, Mr. Cloud! No need to worry!" I assured him, "They are very nice to me and so far no one had gave me a cold shoulder."

"Good." He cleared his throat. "I just came here to check on you. Just tell me if someone wasn't treating you right, okay? Or if you have any problems. Just come to me." He told me nicely without smiling.  His eyes and face shows seriousness and calmness.

I nod my head quickly as I held the mop stick closer to me with a shy smile.

He nodded back then turned his back to walked away. I gave out s deep sigh when he  was finally out of my sight.

Zephyr is really handsome, I must say. I have never seen a guy as hot and successful at the same time. No woman on earth won't will think that he's not enough to be the Mr. Right. Well, we all do dreamed for it and we went them to be handsome and rich.

My boss is the full package.

I really believed that he is nice. He gave me a job without any questions. He just saw me wondering outside of the club and he trusted me quickly.

Suddenly, someone bumped my shoulder and I saw Rose giving me a you know what kind of look.

"The boss has taken likes on you." She wiggles her brows teasingly.  "I am getting really jealous of you girl."

I waved my hands disapprovingly in front of her. "No way!" I denied. "He is just being nice to his employers."

"Honey, kind and Zephyr Cloud should not not be in one sentence." She rolled my eyes and slapped my butt. "Anyway, get back to work, Bitch."

I laughed and continued mopping the marbled floor. At the corner of my eye, I could still see Zephyr standing at the ground floor. He was talking to some group of friends, maybe with a girl in his arms. The same girl that I saw him kissing with.

She must be the girlfriend.

Then what's the bitterness from? Why do I sound like that? You're so weird, Elena. When I finished mopping the floor, I helped the others to clean and arrange the place then it was time to go home. I head over to the powder room to check the time.

It's 4 in the morning. Good, I still have time to take Avery to school. I left my other things, except the clothes because I'm bringing them with me so I could laundry them.

I walked home, holding onto my coat since it's very cold at this hour. I walked through the quiet alley towards my apartment. There are no dangerous guys that I will pass by to where I go because it's so quiet  in this neighbourhood.

When I reached the apartment, I used my key to open my front door and saw Vivian in the living room, talking to someone on the phone.

I cleared my throat to get her attention and she ended the call as soon as she me already. It must be her guy. "Welcome back, Ms. Valentin." She smiled to me.

I smiled back. "Is Avery asleep?"

She nodded. "Yep. She fell asleep early last night."

"Okay, thank you for your care, Vivian. You can go home now." I told her, placing my hand on her slender arm and squeezed it before letting it go.

"I'll see you tomorrow then, Ms. Valentin!" She cheerfully told me as I escorted her out to the door. I locked it securely before heading towards Avery's room.

Slowly, I entered her room. The light in her room is only the kiddy lamp beside her bed. She was sleeping with her mouth slight open and she's very cute right now. I smiled as I caressed her hair before leaning down to place a kiss on her forehead.

"I love you, my princess." I whispered and left her room to head towards mine. I took off my clothes and had a quick warm shower before putting on my pajamas and went to bed.

I am so tired that I didn't even noticed that sleep had overpowered me.

I just only knew that it was already morning.

I checked the clock and it's 8 am. I yawned and stretched my arms in the air. I got up and head towards the kitchen already to cook something for my daughter. I put some loaf of bread in the toaster and made some coffee for me and milk for Avery. I grabbed Avery's cereal on the top drawer and fresh milk.

After a few minutes, Avery went out of her room, scratching her eyes. "Good morning, Momma." She yawned.

I dropped the blanket that I was using to wipe my hands and head towards my little me. I bended my knee and went down to her level and placed a kiss on her cheeks. "Good morning, baby. How was your sleep?"

"Good." She replied, as she ran towards the table as I helped her with the cereals in her bowl.

I grabbed the toast that I did and sat down next to my daughter. "Do you have any activities today at school?"

"Not really. We are going to watch animal growth today at school." She told me, grinning excitingly.

"That's great. Study it well, Avery. Okay?"

"Of course, Momma. I won't let you down." She wrapped both of her slender arms around me as she said those words.

I smiled and kissed the top of her head. "Alright, finish your cereal. You don't want to be late at school."

Avery finished her meal quickly and so did I. She took a shower and so did I. I helped her into her uniform then after that, I arranged myself to my waitress uniform in the diner. I can really feel the tiredness but I have to shake them off. It's time to work.

I had a large dark circles under my eyes so I just covered them up with some makeup. Need to be presentable as soon as I can.

"Momma, lets go." Avery barged into my room. She is actually wearing pigtails making her even cuter.

I grabbed my bag before leaving. I locked the door and head towards Avery's room like Te usual.

I really am sleepy.

While I was at the diner, Jeng gave me an energy drink. She knows that I have a new evening job and she freaked out about it. And it is very obvious that I look so tired the moment I stepped in the place. They all gave me this questioning look.

I was serving some group of teenagers when Ivan called me up in his office.

What could be the reason now?

I placed my tray back in the kitchen and head towards his office. Knocking on the door softly, I told me to come in.

Ivan was sitting in his swivel chair, doing something in his computer when he turned his face towards me. "Eleina, I had something to ask you."

I hesitated to walk closer to his desk but I remained calm but not comfortable.

"Would you like to go on a date with me tonight?"

Silence...

I blinked multiple times before that questioned sinked into my mind.

Another silence...

"Are you kidding?"

"No. I'm serious." He replied not a hint of kid in his voice. "I really want to go on a official date with you."

I scoffed and smacked my forehead. "I can't do this, Ivan. I have no time for your silly things."

"Please, Eleina. I really want you. I can help you and give you a wonderful life." He pleaded, standing up to walk closer to me.

"Ivan, how many times do I have to repeat myself? I'm happy with my daughter and I don't need anyone in my life. I don't need you!" I made sure to emphasise each words that I said.

"I won't give up, Eleina." He declared, confidently. "I'm going to prove to you that I'm a good man. A man enough for you."

"I don't need a man enough for me, Ivan. Jeez, you only want me and not my daughter." I spat, turning to leave. "And please, Ivan...don't call me at times like this especially if you are just gonna ask those stupid things."

I stormed out of his office really irritated. I didn't fear that he will fire me because I'm sure he won't. It his personal feelings is getting mixed up to our job, that is so unprofessional.

"What did Ivan asked you this time?" Jeng asked, curiously.

"Nothing but crap, Jeng. Lets just get on with our jobs." I tried to avoid the topic. Honestly I get angry all the time when Ivan is still making a move on me. I took a deep breath and helped on serving the meals.

Nothing special happened as the whole day passed. I quickly get tired since I lacked of sleep but I just shrugged it off. No time to be tired. I'll just rest later after picked up Avery in Martha's house.

Like always, my shift ended at exactly four in the afternoon. I was obviously avoiding Ivan the whole time. After that annoying conversation we had earlier, I can't face it. Because, I might slap him really hard.

I grabbed my bag before I head out and walked through the busy streets on the way to Martha's house. It's not that far though, just a few minutes away.

When I arrived there, Avery and Martha's daughter Lindsay were playing outside their house. Martha was watering her plants.

"Hey." I grabbed their attention.

Martha turned to me and waved. "Hey!"

"Momma!" Avery stopped from playing dolls with Lindsay then ran towards me, wrapping her arms around my tight because that's just her level.

"Hey, kid." I went down to give her a kiss on the forehead. "Hello, Lindsay. Are you and Avery playing your new dolls?"

Lindsay smiled sweetly. "Yes, aunt Lena." She replied showing her dolls to me.

I stood up and walked towards Martha. "Hey, thanks for picking up, Avery." I bumped her shoulder.

"No problem, Eleina. You know Avery is like my kid too and Lindsay loves having her with us." Martha told me. "Oh, Avery has been complaining when I picked  them up. She said that she had a headache."

"I'll just give her some medicine when we get home." I responded.

"I baked some muffins with the two kids. Wanna hang out here for a few minutes?" She offered.

"Sure! There's no way I'll say no to that."

We head inside her house and went inside the dining place. She brought out the tray of tall muffins and placed them on top of the table. Wow, they smell amazing!

A fact about me.

I have a strange addiction when it comes to muffin. Especially a corn muffin.

I sat down on one of the chair. Squealing of the children enveloped the entire room as they argument to which chair they will sit. "Your husband is not here?" I asked

"Nope. Justin had his hands full in the car shop." She stated. Her husband is a car engineer in a local car shop. "So, how is your first day in the club?"

I sigh, recalling it. "As much as weird as it sounds but everything was easy. Mr. Zephyr Cloud was nice to me."

"Zephyr Cloud is known for his looks yet terrible personality." She murmured, arching an eyebrow. "And nice doesn't fit for him. What happened?"

"I don't know." I shrugged my shoulders. "Everyone in the club were surprised to see how nice he is to me. That it's very unfair."

"Maybe he likes you."

"Huh? That's impossible. And his girlfriend is with him." I told her, this time taking one of the muffin and taking a bite. "And I have a problem

"A problem in your first day?"

"Yeah, I lied about my identity." I noted, lowering my voice so Avery won't hear it. "To get in the job, you have to be single. No commitments with anyone. Especially a child."

"What a rubbish rule." She blurted out, eyebrows frowned. "Got any problem with women with kids or husband?"

"Beats me." I shrugged my shoulders. "I just have to hide it so I could keep the job."

"Yeah, you have to be careful. Better show them that you deserve the job from the nice things he did." She patted my shoulder.

"Do you think it's better if I find a husband? To support Avery better. Because I lack of time with her. If you write it down, the only time I have with her is morning before going to school and after school. And I only have two hours before I go to work again." I complained. "What if...what if an emergency happened while I'm at work? Will I always depend on Vivian?"

Martha seems to get my point. She gave me a sad smile but also an understanding one. "I know it's hard for you, Eleina. Being a mother is hard enough but we all know it's worth of all our sacrifices. Don't worry too much about it. Be positive."

"I really wish I am strong enough, Martha." I breathe out.

30 minutes later, Avery and I went home because she said that she was not feeling well and that worried me.

When we got  to my apartment, she ran to her toys and grabbed her teddy bear but I can see that something is different. Well, this is how Avery when she is sick, she doesn't show and didn't think about it much. She is still talkative and active. Even if she has a fever, she will tell me all the things she wanted to say and play as much as she wants.

"Hey baby, do you have a homework?" I asked, sitting with her on the playing mat.

"Nope." She answered, looking at me. "You know, Momma...our teacher told us to draw our dream house."

"Yeah, and what did you drew?" I wondered.

"Our teacher took our drawing and she taped mine on the wall." She happily shared. "I drew a normal house, Momma. I can't draw our apartment because it's a building. I can't draw it."

I laughed at her. "What else did you do in school?"

"We just practiced reading and writing." She replied. "Momma, lets play."

"Great." I stood up and picked her up. "Lets play later after you changed your uniform. " I told her and carried her to her room. I took off her uniform and put her normal clothes on. She is now wearing comfortable clothes.

"Momma, I don't feel good." She told me out of the blue.

"Why? Does your stomach hurt? Your head hurts?" I asked, worriedly as I placed my hand on his forehead to check if she has a fever.

"My head hurts, Momma. But don't worry about it. It doesn't hurt that much." She told me, giving me an assuring smile then she ran off towards the living room.

I heard that she turned the tv on and tuned in to her favourite kids' channel.

That's not gonna test my mind.

I grabbed a paracetamol for children and made Avery drink it. I dropped my body on the couch as she jumped on top of me as she watches the tv show.

"I'm just going rest, baby. Keep it down alittle." I told her, and kissed her forehead before I closed my eyes and drifting to sleep. I have to rest so I have the energy later on.

To be continued.
