MY FIRST MEETING WITH RIHANA

(flashback)

It was a usual evening, but something seemed special. The weather was very pleasant with light breeze blowing. It appeared a light drizzle could anytime kiss the earth. Like every day, today also I was sitting on a chair in a park, and writing my Novel, unaware that an unforgettable event was going to unfold, which would become a beautiful memory. The breeze had become stronger. A gush of air came and blew a page of my Novel in the direction of a group of girls sitting at a distance. I was wondering how I could go and ask for the sheet of paper. I was a very shy person and was scared of talking to girls. I tried to muster some courage but found it difficult. I couldn’t speak to one girl, and they were four. Another thing which was making me hesitant was that all the four girls were very beautiful. I started sweating and decided that it was better to write that page again, instead of making a cartoon of myself in front of the beautiful girls.

I started writing again. I would have written a few lines, when suddenly I heard a lovely voice, “Excuse me… I think this is yours”.

I looked up, and was mesmerized. I couldn’t believe that the prettiest girl of the group was standing in front of me, with the page of my Novel in her hand. She had big, beautiful eyes, long hair with a streak of light golden color. She was wearing blue jeans, a white top, small ear-rings, and a few bangles. I kept looking at her beautiful smile, unable to say a single word, lost in the dream world of her beauty.

She again said, “Hellooo, where are you lost? I am speaking to you”

“Sorry, I was lost somewhere”, I tried to cover up.

“Is this your page?

“Yes, it is mine”

“Please take it. I think the wind blew it in my direction”

I took the page, and thanked her.

I thought this was the end of this meeting. But I was wrong. It was just the beginning. She smiled “So you are a writer. Right?

“Yes, I am a writer”

“By the way, what are you writing?

I could feel my nerves slowly calming down. I said “At present I am writing a Novel. But my articles and poems keep getting published in Papers.

“Wonderful! So, I am talking to a Novel writer. I am impressed.

I couldn’t understand, whether she was praising me, or pulling my leg. Anyways, I was happy that such a beautiful girl was talking to me.

“If I am not disturbing you, can I sit here?” she asked.

In my heart, I was already trying to figure out, how to ask her to sit. She had made my task simpler. Wiping the chair with my hand, I said “yeah, sure. Please sit.

She smiled and sat down. I was happy that now I could look at that pretty face a little longer.

“When would this Novel hit the market? I mean, when is it getting published?” she asked.

“It will take another two months to complete it. Then I will try to meet some good publisher, so that it can reach as many people as possible”, I answered.

“I had read the page which flew towards me. You write really very well.

“Thanks.” I was glad that she was taking interest in talking to me. But, I was a little worried too…. What if she was pulling my leg?

“When this Novel comes in the market, I will buy the first copy”, she said.

Now I was getting convinced that she was saying all this just to motivate me.

“Did you really like it, or are you saying it to keep my heart?

“Oh no…. you really write very well. Plus, you are not my boyfriend that I would tell lies just to keep your heart.” she again started smiling.

Her smile was killing me. But as it happens in love stories, her friends entered the scene as a villain.

“Do you plan to spend the entire night here?” They all started laughing.

I really wished this would turn true, and I could get to spend an entire night sitting in the park with her. But I knew this was not possible.

“Are you crazy? I am not a ghost. I was about to come”, she said.

“Oh, I thought you had decided to stay here today”, one of her friends said.

They were pulling her leg, and I was trying to forcibly laugh with them, though I was a bit tense. I had to act funny.

“It was a pleasure speaking with you. Will take you leave now”, she got up from the chair.

“I also enjoyed our talk.

All of them started walking towards the park exit. And like a bollywood hero, I waited for her to turn around and give me a look. But this doesn’t happen in real life. I seemed to have fallen in love with her. I couldn’t understand whether all that had happened was real or a dream. I scratched my hand with my nails, even bit my hand to confirm it was not a dream. I suddenly became sad. We had spoken for so long, but we had not even exchanged our names.

I spent the next few hours in the park writing the Novel. When it became too dark, I returned to my room. I was living in the terrace room in Sharma building. I heated the food that I had cooked in the morning, and tried to eat, but my thoughts were still in the park, with her. Since I didn’t know her name, I could not even locate her on Facebook. I took out the paper which had flown towards her, and looked at it lovingly. I went out on terrace, and like someone obsessed, started enacting the scenes that had happened in the Park. I had fallen madly in love with her – a one sided love. I was waiting for the night to pass, but today even the night seemed longer. Around 4 am I forced myself to sleep. I had a very important meeting in the morning with Mr. Verma, and needed to rest too. But her thoughts didn’t leave me.
