MY ROOM PARTNER

After climbing about thirty stairs, I reached the room allotted to me. I was shocked to find the room already open, because the room keys were in my hands. Anyways, I decided to enter the room.

As I entered, I saw a boy sitting on a chair. He must have been around 30 year old, with long hair, light beard, wearing jeans and jacket. He was bent on a table, and writing something in a copy. Lots of torn papers were lying on the floor. I looked around. There was an old bed, a chair, and a table with a cup with some red mark on it. On the wall there were posters of film star Akshay Kumar, and a few famous writers, and some random paper cuttings. Inside the room there was a toilet, and a makeshift kitchen. Perhaps my would-be room partner was a big fan of Akshay Kumar.

As soon as he saw me, he got up and extending his hand towards me said “Hi Avinash, I am Aarav”.

I was very surprised. This was our first ever meeting, then how could he know my name? I couldn’t stop asking him “Bro, I haven’t told you my name yet… then how do you know I am Avinash?

In a heavy voice he said “I am a ghost”. Then he smiled and said “Arre I was just joking. Bahadur, the Nepali guy at the reception had called me on phone and informed that a boy named Avinash was going to come and stay with me.

I smiled to show I wasn’t scared. He offered me a seat and asked me to put my bags in a corner. Once we settled down, he enquired about my life and I kept on answering him.

I also asked him what he did.

He said “I am a writer. I convey emotions through words.

I was very happy on hearing this. Now I was certain that I was not going to feel bored in Delhi, because I was going to stay with a writer. We spoke for a very long time. The evening turned to night. I was very tired. The next day was going to be my first day in the new office, and I didn’t want to reach late. So, I bid him good night and went to sleep. He continued writing.

Next morning when I got up, I found Aarav still sitting on the chair, busy writing. I thought he might have woken up before me, but his face told another story. I asked him

“Didn’t you sleep the whole night?

He looked at me and said “No, I was working.

I laughed and said “You are really a ghost. They don’t sleep at night, nor do you”

He smiled mysteriously and said “Can’t help brother. My dreams are so big, that they don’t let me sleep.

I had to reach office on time, so I started getting ready. While leaving the room, I shook his hands, and said “Ok, see you in the evening.” He smiled and wished me good luck. I came down, and took an auto for office.
