Chapter 5

Victor walked with his roommate Derrick to the Calverno Building. That was where the sports classes were.

"So how was your first day at the cafeteria?"

"Honestly? Not bad. It went well. I worked with Trevor."

Derrick seemed surprised at that, "Really? How was he?"

"He's nice. He didn't talk but I understood him. Plus now I have his number."

"What? He never gives out a phone number." Derrick pushed him lightly, "Maybe he is hitting on ya."

"No, I don't think so."

Derrick shrugged, waving as he turned to go to his room (which was on the first floor). Victor had to go to the third floor but he didn't mind taking the stairs.

He felt his phone vibrate and he saw he got a message from Trevor.

'You're working next Saturday, right?'

Victor responded with a 'Yes, I'm helping out on four more Saturdays'

Trevor got back to him pretty fast, 'That means we're working together again!'

Victor wasn't sure why he smiled, but he replied with 'Cool! Looking forward to it.'

Though, he was unsure why Trevor seemed to do a lot of days. So he asked, 'You work at the cafeteria often?'

'Yes, after Miss Jackie left I wanted to help as much as possible. The more practice I get, the better.'

Victor agreed, 'Same with volleyball. The more practice you get, the better you get.'

Victor made it to his room, sitting in his normal seat when Trevor got back to him.

'You play volleyball? It seems like a hard sport to play.'

Victor had to stop himself from chucking.

'I played since middle school so I have a lot of practice under my belt. Cooking seems hard.'

'Yeah but I don't mind it. Gotta go, class is starting.' And after it, Trevor sent a waving emoji.

Victor sent one back, putting his phone away with a smile as the professor came in starting his lecture.

After the boring lesson, Victor yawned, making way to the stairs. He had about thirty minutes to get to his other class.

He decided it would be best to be early so he walked to the building. Victor sighed, done with his class. He went to wait for his friends at the cafeteria. On his way, he noticed Trevor sitting at a table outside.

"Hey." He said once over at the table.

The boy looked up with shock but once he saw it was Victor, he gave a small nod and wave.

"You're not working today?"

Trevor shook his head no.

"What are you working on?" Victor went over to see. It was Statistics. He wasn't the best at the class last semester but he got a B+, so he thought he did well. "This is wrong." He pointed to the problem he was working on.

Trevor let out a sigh, ripping a paper out of his notebook and handed it to Victor.

"You... want me to do it?"

Trevor took out his phone, showing Victor it soon after. 'So I can see what you do' he read.

"Oh, sure. I have time until my friends come." Victor sat next to him, doing the problem. The boys sit in silence as Trevor watches carefully and soon stopped him. He pointed at what Victor last wrote.

"You have to put this exponent in here. That's the only way to figure out the answer. Then you put that answer here and get the other exponents' answer. It's kinda like algebra."

Trevor rubbed the back of his neck.

"Hey, that's ok. If you need help I can always try to help." Victor smiled. "Text me when you have questions, I don't mind."

Trevor gave him a small smile and nodded.

"Victor!" The boys turned to see Moriah walking towards them. "Oh, you're the boy from the cafeteria."

"Moriah, this is Trevor. Trevor, this is my friend, Moriah." Victor introduced them.

"Oh, nice to meet you Trevor." Moriah gave him a kind smile. Trevor returned the smile with a small nod. Moriah seemed a bit confused as this was the second time the boy never said anything to her.

"I think I see Samuel coming. We can all eat. Want to join?" Victor asked. Trevor put his hand up as he shook his head. "Okay, well I guess I'll see you Saturday."

"Saturday?" Moriah asked.

"Yeah, remember? I had to help out the cafeteria because my English teacher forced me to sign up for a few days."

"Oh, so you worked together. I see."

Samuel walked up to the group, introducing himself and the three waived nicely to Trevor before going inside.

"Jeeze, why is he so rude? He didn't even say anything to us." Moriah huffed.

"Moriah, Trevor doesn't talk. He might be mute." Victor stated, feeling a bit annoyed.

"O-oh." She stated, quickly going silent.

"Wait, is he the mute kid that I heard about? He is in the cooking major... cuisine arts? I heard he's very to himself and doesn't talk to anyone. Someone said in my history class that they bet he doesn't have a voice." Samuel said, grabbing a tray.

"So what if he doesn't? Why does it matter?" Victor asked, following Samuel.

"It doesn't, I'm just curious." Samuel responded, grabbing a wrap.

"Why are you defending him? I've never seen you so worked up." Moriah jokingly elbowed him.

"I just am a bit annoyed with my work load. Sorry." Victor stated.

Moriah just shrugged, the three going to sit down with their full trays.
