Chapter 2

"Alright everyone, let's take it down!"

Victor sighed, wiping the sweat off his forehead. He had hoped the practice would have been longer. Without the coach, but what else could they do?

"Victor, come help me collect the balls." He heard, looking over to Cameron. Cameron was one year ahead of him and got along well with the friendly blond. Cameron was shorter than Victor and played as the libero. He was a very good defensive player and loved to dive.

"Sure Cam." Victor took the other cart and went to the other side of the gym to pick up the volleyballs on the court. After their captain, Brandon, deemed the gym clean, the team dispersed to the locker rooms or left to go to their dorm.

Victor walked out with Cameron after changing. They were in the same dorm but Cameron was a floor below him because of his seniority. Since Victor was a second-year, he had to go to the third floor.

"Can we take the elevator? My legs are killing me." Victor asked.

Cameron laughed, "Yeah, my legs are sore too." They got into the elevator, both leaning against the wall. "So, how are your classes going?"

"Eh, they are doing alright. Math is probably the hardest but I'm getting by. What about you?"

"The physical education route is hard but I really want to be a trainer. So, I'm trying to get by with the classes. You want to be a coach, right?" Cameron asked.

Victor nods, "Yeah, a volleyball coach."

"Well, I think you can do it. You know the game like the back of your hand and you have good ideas. The only thing you need to work on is talking more." Cameron nudges his arm. Victor nods as the elevator dings to tell them it's on the second floor. Cameron waves as he leaves and the doors close.

Victor sighed, he knew he had to work on talking on the court. It was hard for him because he gets so focused that he forgets he has to communicate and help rile up the team. He thinks he got better since last year, but he knows he needs to be better if he wants to be a college-level coach.

The elevator dings once again as he makes it to his dorm room and enters. He notices his roommate, Derrick, was at his desk. He was listening to music while filling out some papers. Victor knocks on the desk, making him look up.

"Oh, V! Welcome back man. How was practice?" He asked, setting down his things.

"Went well. How was your day?" Victor leaned against the wall.

"Eh, could have been better but I'm getting by."

Derrick was also a sports major wanting to be a coach for soccer. Victor never really liked the sport but he still supported his roommate when they went for nationals. Derrick supported Victor when they went to districts so it was only fair if he returned the favor. Unfortunately, both teams were unsuccessful with that, but the two still felt very accomplished at how far they got.

Since they didn't have much to talk about, Victor made way to his desk to work on his homework. He had an essay due in two weeks, a math paper to finish, and a math test to study for.

He sighed, getting stuck on a problem. "Hey, Derrick? Can you help me with this problem?"

Derrick was at his side, "What's up?"

He looks at the problem, helping Victor with each step. Since Derrick took this math class last semester, he knew how to solve the problems. It helped that he had the same teacher as Victor, so the homework didn't change much.

"Oh, that makes more sense. Can you stay here while I do the next one?"

Derrick nods with a smile as he didn't mind. Victor went through the next problem without getting stuck and thanked his roommate for his help.

The two then silently worked on their homework. Victor noticed it was eleven-o-clock and closed his laptop with a sigh. He looked over to see his roommate still up.

"Hey, it's eleven."

Derrick checks his phone and chuckles, "So it is." He stretched and grabbed his pajamas. "I'll take a shower first."

Victor nods and gets his things ready for a shower before bed. To pass the time he went on his phone, checking Facebook if anything exciting happened with his old friends and family.

"Done." He heard the door close and saw Derrick face plant on his bed. Victor shakes his head at his friend before heading in the shared bathroom to shower.

After he was clean, he dried and got dressed into his pajamas, turning off all the lights before going over to his bed. With a heavy sigh, he laid down, pulling the covers over him and letting sleep take over.
