Chapter Seven

I watched amazingly as Muhammad entered the house with a lady who really didn't look familiar. She looked like she was in her twenties and she had her brunette coloured hair down her shoulders and she wore a dress that hugged her shape tightly and showed all her curves.

"hey, this is Sarah, my colleague at work" Muhammad said looking from me to the lady that came in with him. I just stood with no expression on my face.

"Hey, I am Salma" I smiled "yeah, Muhammad has told me alot about you" she smiled back.

"I have set the table for dinner" I said, as I led the way to where we were going to eat.

We started eating and at first it was a bit awkward but then Sarah spoke up.

"So how long have you two been married and how is marriage life" Sarah suddenly asked and I  just exchanged glances with Muhammad.

"It's been three months now I guess" I said and I looked at Muhammad.

    "Yeah" Muhammad agreed.

"So tell me how you guys met?" She asked again. " Muhammad told me you guys weren't together for even up to a year" she added.

"My uncle introduced the two of us. I guess it was just meant to be then" I said fake smiling.

"please can you pass me the pepper please" Muhammad requested and I and Sarah both stretched our hands out together and I just looked at her and I let go of it for her to pick it up. And Muhammad just looked up at me. I didn't like the vibe I was getting from her and my instincts are never wrong.

"I thought you didn't like pepper so much" Sarah asked as she handed the pepper over to Muhammed.

"And how would you know that" I asked as I raised my brows.

"I have know Muhammad all my life, we practically grew up together, went to the same schools and our parents are friends too" she explained and I just looked up at Muhammad. I had never even heard him talk about Sarah before and that was surprising and also making me curious that there was more.

"Ohh, nice he actually has never mentioned you" I said with a smirk on my face.

"Muhammad is that true" Sarah said more curious than surprised.

"I really didn't think it was necessary" Muhammad said trying to justify his reasons.

"Really, you didn't think it was necessary to mention me to your wife. Your childhood best friend. I have practically been in your life all through. I even had to hear from dad that you were getting married, I wasn't even invited" Sarah said and I just watched the drama and show she was putting on because I still didn't trust her.

"You left Sarah, You left" Muhammad said and I couldn't help but see the disappointment in Muhammad's face when he said that.

After that we all ate our remaining food in silence and things became even more awkward.

"Are you married" I suddenly asked and I really regretted the fact that I did because it was really a stupid question and was totally unnecessary.

"No, I am not. I was going to a year ago  but life happened" she explained.

"Where is he now and what happened" I curiously asked wondering why she didn't get married and what had gone wrong.

"We just had  to go our separate ways because I got a really good offer abroad and I couldn't give up on my dreams and he is happily married now too" she said.

"But he could have waited though, you're back now ain't you. I said

"I guess things ain't as easy as we say or wish they were" Sarah said and I then noticed that Muhammad had been quit all through my conversation with Sarah and I wondered why.

"It's late. I think you should get going so you can get a cab" Muhammad suddenly said

"Yeah I should" Sarah said as she picked up her bag.

"The food was amazing by the way and it was nice to meet you Salma" Sarah said as we followed her towards the door.

"It was nice to meet you too" I said back as we closed the door behind her.

I and Muhammad packed the plates to the kitchen to do the dishes and clean the dinning area.

"You never mentioned her, why was that" I said suddenly as I dropped the plate in the sink.

"It really wasn't necessary I guess" he said picking up water from the frigde.

"She talks like she is family, I just feel you should have at least mentioned her"

"Salma, you need to understand that there is really nothing to mention about Sarah"

"You introduced her as a colleague"i questioned

"Because that's all she is now" Muhammad said

"All she is now?" I asked as I raised my eye brows.

"I really need to go change and have a shower,    we shouldn't be arguing over stuffs like this" he said then walked out on me. Arguing over stuffs like this" I thought. I was just having an honest conversation with him and now this! I thought

It seemed to me like he was trying to avoid talking about her or anything that had to do with her but then why was she in my house?I thought.

Something was wrong somewhere and that was something I was very sure of so I just finished up with what I was doing to go into the room and probably continue the questioning with him. I was pretty inquisitive and I never give up easily so I was determined to get to the root of what was going on. But when I got into the room, Muhammad was already asleep.so there was no talking about this again then. I just changed into my night ware and since I wasn't feeling sleepy yet, I picked up the novel I had been reading but my mind was distracted from what just happened and little did I know that this was just the beginning of the end of something beautiful.
