Chapter 56

Partying, laughing, teasing and cursing Rakshit's bachelor party had come to an end or three friends which included Shaurya, Kabir and Uday were calling it a night, leaving the other two persons there.

"You don't want to go home?" Rakshit turned to his left side where Viraj was lying on grass, looking up to the star studded sky, just like him. "It's already late. Your wife must be waiting for you.

Viraj looked at him, "Nope. I have informed her that I would be late." His gaze back to where it's previous, up to the enormous sky.

Silence.

Both friends were drawn in silence, hanging unspoken words in the air. They felt relief without nobody's evading their minds. And they knew that too, because they were connected to each other, somehow somewhere in their lives.

"So..." Viraj started to lighten their cold silence. "You are gonna be a husband by tomorrow." His lips tugged up slightly. "What do you feel, Rakshit?

"What did you feel then?" Rakshit did not smile, nor turn to look at him.  He really meant what he asked.

"Hey! It was my question. You have to answer. Don't you dare to dodge it like always." Viraj waited for him to speak until he lost his patience which was merely one minute, he punched Rakshit's arm. "Tell me, bastard.

Rakshit laughed at his not so sweet endearment. He sat up straight and followed Viraj. "You never change." He shook his head.

"Neither do you." Viraj deadpanned.

Rakshit agreed to his friend, "Yes. I really am..." a hurtful laugh past his lips. "In fact Rakshit has me here," he pointed to his heart. "And he is still there...I can feel him..." it seemed he was talking to him rather than Viraj.

"Rakshit." Viraj shook him, holding his shoulder. "What the f*cking nonsense you are talking about? Tomorrow is your wedding--"

"I am afraid, Viraj." Rakshit really was scared.

"What?" Viraj yelled. He looked around, just to check whether he had seen something that scared him. "What are you afraid of?" He realised Rakshit had spoken about his feelings.

"About myself." Rakshit admitted with a defeated sigh.

"What?" Viraj inched closer to him and placed his hand on his shoulder, in a comforting way. "There is something you want to talk to me about?" Rakshit nodded his head. "Okay. You know what, you can tell me anything. I won't judge you ever." He assured him with a smile.

"I know." Rakshit smiled as well and looked down at his hands on his lap, as if contemplating himself how to start it. "Tomorrow we get married as I wish. Finally it's gonna happen, but...but what's next?" He looked up to Viraj who was listening to him, unwavering his gaze. "What if I turned out to be my old self? Return to the Rakshit whom everyone hates. Then, ours shall be a failure. And certainly, she will break it, take Ved and walk out of my life forever..." He did not look up to Viraj when he finished, because he could not. The fear of losing his loved ones was eating him up. It was torturous more than he could say it through verbally.

"Hey! You sound like a pessimist." Viraj made efforts to ease his downfall.

"What if I am not a good father?" Rakshit did not heed to his statement as he went on his self pity. "What if I am not a good husband? What if I--" his rantings had been broken by Viraj who shook him hard to take him out of his trance.

"RAKSHIT!

As if coming back to the world, Rakshit was quiet, taking in his surroundings.

"Just f*cking throw this kinda negative away in your mind." Viraj scolded him. "You are worrying for nothing.

"You don't understand--"

"I do." Truthfully, Viraj could feel him.

"I don't deserve them." Rakshit shook his head, unable to agree with his heart. "But I can't live without them either..." He looked helpless at that moment.

"Everyone deserves a second chance, Rakshit." Viraj tried to make him realise the fact." Crying over spilled milk is not gonna help you. What's happened, it's happened. You need to get that in your thick head." He thought he had gone too far by yelling at him. Probably, it would sadden him more. "Look at my life. You can see how I had got a second life. Just like me, you will get one as well. "

"She hates me." Rakshit said the matter of fact.

"I know, but it doesn't mean you get no chance to build a life." Viraj fortified him.

"It's not easy at all." Rakshit sighed. He felt he had to pass through a trial to achieve a tempting peaceful life.

"I have no doubt whatsoever." Viraj admitted, because he had experienced that phace once.

"Try hard and earn her forgiveness." Viraj cheered him. That's all he could say now. "Prove it you are worth it." His promising words really heartened him.

Rakshit did not reply to him for his encouraging words. He was really moved by his friend's concern. Viraj let him think about what he had told him. Their silence was much needed then, until it was cut off by Rakshit's cellphone ringing, flashing Anuradha's name on it.

"Radha?" Rakshit stared down at it, not picking it up. It was kinda surprising when her name flashing on the screen, at the hour.

"Anuradha is calling you?" Viraj took a look at the screen.

"She doesn't call me usually, let alone this time." Rakshit was stunned to do anything. There was a fear behind his hesitation. "There must be a reason, or she wouldn't." He held the phone tightly.

"We can't reach any conclusions unless you attend it." Viraj urged him to pick up the call.

"What if she wants to cancel our wedding?" Rakshit voiced his worry.

Viraj shook his head at Rakshit's new weirdest behaviour.
He knew he had to take matters into his own hands, so he snatched the cellphone from Rakshit.

"Hey!" Rakshit protested and tried to take it back. "What the hell--"

Quickly, Viraj pressed the green button and mouthed him, extending his hand.
"Speak."

Rakshit glared at him before speaking to her.
"Hello?"

His fearful face turned to anxiety while he was talking to her.
"Why? Everything is alright?" His posture suddenly changed alerts.

"Ok, ok...I will come now." Rakshit ended the call.

"What's wrong?" Viraj inquired instantly.

"She asked me to come there." Rakshit replied while getting ready to leave.

"Didn't she tell you what's the matter?" Viraj also followed him.

"Nope." Rakshit moved fast towards his car.

"So you are going?" Viraj asked when Rakshit was about to slide in the car.

"Yeah." Rakshit said.

"Then, I will come with you?" Viraj offered.

"No, no, I can manage it. You go to your Naina or she won't let you get in." Rakshit tried to make a joke despite him getting nervous.

"My Naina never do that." Viraj smiled and remembered his lovely wife.

"All right then." Rakshit started the engine.

"You sure you shall not need me there?" Viraj asked once again.

"I am damn sure. You are needed in your house rather than Anuradha's." Rakshit assured him.

"Call me if you need me." Viraj said.

"Sure." Rakshit nodded his head before driving from there.

*****

Rakshit did not take more time to make it up on her doorstep.
He hesitated a moment before knocking on the door.

"Radha!

He was about to knock only to find she opened the door.
"Rad--" He cut himself off when she stared at him. "What happened? Are you all right?

"Come inside." Ignoring his question, she told him to get in.

Rakshit followed her and saw his mother was sitting on the couch.
"Ma? What's wrong?" Avantika smiled at him sadly. He could realise there was something wrong.

"Here.
" Anuradha extended her hand which had a paper to him.

"What's this?" He took it from her hand.

"See it yourself." Anuradha waited for him to read it.

Rakshit opened the paper in his hand and read it.
It was a threatening letter, saying Anuradha should not get married to Rakshit and if she did, Ved's life would be in danger.

"What's this?" Rakshit asked her after reading it. "Who gave you this?

"I don't know. I got it from the door, nobody was there." Anuradha said truthfully.

"When did you get it?

"A few minutes before I called you.

"Who might be that?" He asked no one in particular.

"Who else?" She scoffed. Rakshit raised his eyebrow. "Your ex fiancee, Rinisha." She had no doubt about it.

"Rinisha?" He denied the assumption. "I don't believe that she dared to do that.

"Now you are defending her." She sneered at him.

"Radha, I--" he was interrupted by her showing her hand.

"This marriage is not going to happen." She declared leaving Rakshit and Avantika in shock.

"WHAT?" He yelled.

"I can't put my son's life in danger for somebody's wish." Anuradha said as if it was her final decision.

"You think I would let him in danger. He is my son too. I know how to protect him." He defended her. She was badly hurting his ego.

"Still you want to win, right?" She retorted.

"It's your decision." He raised his tone too.

"That's why I want to end it before it starts." She did not leave a place to negotiate.

"Radha, you can't be serious." He wanted to punch his hand on a wall as she was getting on his nerves.

"I am damn serious, Rakshit." Her eyes bored into him, not wavering. "I have called you here to say my decision to cancel our wedding. I can't risk my son for your benefit.

She turned around and about to walk into her room, he stopped her.

"Wait." He stalked towards her. His face held a determination. "You have made your decision. Don't you want to hear mine?

Anuradha narrowed her eyes infinitesimally. Apparently, what he wanted to tell would be opposing her.

"We will get married..." He sounded adamant, his cold gaze held her place and did not allow her to take a step. "...tomorrow itself."
