CHAPTER 4

The clock had just struck 10:30am when the door to the chamber of Dr. Rehaan opened and Vishal entered with his grumbling friend.

“See doc, we are before time today.” Vishal greeted Rehaan.

“Good for you both then.” Rehaan gave them a cold response as he was still mad at the duo because Sonakshi had made sure to give taunting and sarcastic smiles to him for the whole of previous day.

“So can we go and meet your new doctor now?” Dev asked.

“Just because you are early that doesn’t mean others are too are always available for you.” Rehaan replied.

Trying to get the hold of an early appointment of their new doctor, Vishal perched in saying, “What Dev meant is can you please ask the new doc if he can see us right now?

Rehaan looked up from the reports that he was studying and stared at them, before deciding something and dialling the intercom, “Hello Dr. Bose? Your new patients are here. So, I was thinking would you like to see them now?

“Yes, their appointment is at 11:00am. Ok then.” After getting off the call he said, “no early appointments. You guys need to wait for your turn.

“Isn’t he your junior? Why are you even asking him, when you can directly order him to see us as a priority case?

Rehaan had very well caught on the reference of Dr. Bose as ‘He’ and ‘Him’ by the duo but he decided against clarifying their confusion. “You know Dev, it is not always about senior or junior, it is the talent that matters. As for the asking part, I prefer to respect my talented colleagues. So, now please keep quite and stop disturbing me in my work.

Seeing no other option Dev decided to wait for quietly instead of making his old friend more upset.

That thirty minutes were the longest thirty minutes for Dev Dixit as it was for the first time, he was waiting for someone.

Exactly at 11:0am a nurse entered Rehaan’s cabin and asked him to proceed towards Dr. Bose’s cabin.

“Finally!” Vishal muttered under his breathe.

The cabin across the corridor with the name Dr. Bose inscribed on it awaited them. The walk towards the cabin was a lot more difficult for Dev than he considered it to be. A strange smell called out to him, something that he couldn’t exactly point out nut made him go into a frenzy. He wanted to take longer strides to reach the source of the smell but with Rehaan and Vishal h had to struggle to get a grip. Soon they reached the cabin and Rehaan knocked twice before a faint ‘come in’ welcomed them inside. The few second pause outside the doctor’s cabin made Dev more stressed. He could feel a pounding and banging in his head.

As soon as the door opened both Dev and Vishal stopped in their tracks. Dev, because the smell of rain and earth hit him hard, and Vishal because he found a lady doctor sitting in front of him. He looked at Rehaan to confirm his suspicion but Rehaan easily avoided any eye-contact with them.

It is not that Vishal had a problem with a lady doctor helping him but he was more concerned about the reaction of his friend. If a male doctor like Rehaan, who was also their friend could not manage Dev then how will a she-doc be able to handle his egoistic partner?

Both Dev and Vishal came out of whatever they were thinking as Rehaan spoke up, “So Dr. Bose these are your new patients, Dev Dixit and Vishal Bahl. Now, I’ll leave you three alone. Thank You.

No sooner did the door of the cabin closed than Dev realised a fact, “But you are a woman?” he said impulsively.

“Thank You for the certain piece of information Mr. Dixit but I already know it.

Vishal mentally did a face-palm as he realised the kind of drama that was soon going to unfold in this cabin and he also felt bad for the poor lady doctor.

“No, no, you don’t understand. You are a lady doctor; I can’t trust you with your skills. No matter what!” he said exaggerating his little faith in women. Something in his head was struggling and pounding to get free, making him angrier and restless.

“What is your problem exactly Mr. Dixit? That I’m a girl or that I’m a doctor? Or that I am a girl so I cannot be a doctor?” Even before Dev could protest she continued, “anyway if it’s any of the above I don’t care. You need to get one thing straight here that I am your doctor and I don’t need to prove my skills to you. So it will be better if you go and keep you stereotypical ideas and chauvinistic attitude outside the premises of this cabin. Unless you feel you can do that please don’t take the trouble to step inside my cabin.” With that she turned her face to Vishal.

“I hope you don’t suffer from same resistance disorder Mr. Bahl?” she asked.

“Nope. Not at all Dr. Bose, unlike some other people I prefer to live in the current century and support the deserving talent of the country.

“Great then so tell me about yourself. What do you do for a living?

And so both Sonakshi and Vishal began discussing about his health issues and lifestyle.

“See I don’t like beating around the issue so, I will be very clear with you. I have a very bad reputation as a doctor and nutrionist. I don’t like to waste my time, energy and knowledge on people who themselves are not cautious about their health. So, I am going to provide you with a nutrition chart only, and only if, you are ready to follow it accordingly. If you cannot do so then please elt me know now and save both our time.

“I am really an obedient patient Sonakshi, it is my friend that you should ne worried about. Rehaan gave up both of us because of him and I come in a package deal with him.

“Well he is not going to be my patient at all, if he continues with his uptight personality.” She taunted.

“If that is all then…..” she said gesturing towards the cabin door.

“Just a moment, please.” Vishal asked the stubborn doc and went to his even stubborn friend.
