The Four Categories

When Shirley, Jack, and Scott reached for their Algebra class, the spectacle was totally different compared to the very first day they had witnessed in the past two years. Mrs. Chang, their teacher had not arrived yet, so the class looked like a pandemonium.

They were piled up in small groups, some by near the window, some sat on the desk instead of benches and some were seated respectively on their bench but the similarity was that everyone was chatting about the same thing.

Like the rest of the school across the globe, the students of Williams High were, too, familiar with the custom of grouping or categories. The students were categorized according to their conduct and financial background.

The first and the most famous category was 'the typical clique jock/queen bees.' Get in the football, basketball or swim team and become the parts of the top category. The main feature of this category was that it had the least population as rich kids dominate it and Williams High was already short on such students. The only thing made them different from the others was their status and the attention they receive. Queen bees were fashion freaks, often called as 'daddy's little princess'. And don't get them wrong because they were not as mean as everyone would say. So by mistake, if you get them on your wrong side, they won't humiliate you for your periods in front of the whole class, or destroy your homework and assignment to down your image in front of the teachers or make your life a living hell.

They were called queen bees only because of their immense obsession with showing off their iPhones, branded clothing and abilities to afford anything. Other than them, the cheerleaders were also regarded as queen bees of the school as it was not easy for every girl to make it into the squad.

The second category was 'The street fighters and Mythical bitches.' You don't have to be rich to fall in this category because all it is needed that you end up fighting with someone. So generally, It includes all those students who were aggressive in nature and ends up breaking someone's nose (and receive detention afterward) or the guys who had a reputation of arguing with the teachers for multiple times. Jack belonged to the street fighters after he knocked down Danny Branwell for hitting on his girlfriend last year and got expelled for a week, then unwillingly volunteered for a cleaning campaign.

Meanwhile...

Mythical bitches were the girl who had a foul mouth and does catfights with their nails. You would find them shouting at hallways, taunting randomly. Amy Clark was one of them and also belonged to one of those girls who held the maximum number of fights. Though, only three them were remarkable and gained attention. She had two fights with Anna Hasting and Lisa Stinks in her freshman year and one with Penelope Graymark in sophomore year.

The third category was 'the Invisibles'. The name itself defines their conduct. The average marks gainer whose aim was only to improve their marks and enjoy their school life as much they could. They don't tangle themselves with trouble, instead, they stay out of the troubles and lived an invisible life. And the most interesting fact about this category was that they led the most peaceful life at the school. No huss and fuss! Noah and Shirley were called the Invisibles. Both of them were average markers but Noah was the dumbest of the five. While Shirley was now single, Noah was still rooting for her long crush, Margaret Winget.

The last and fourth category goes by so many names. Einstein's pets or an overachiever. It includes all those students who weren't part of the above-mentioned categories.

Luckily, Scott, he ended up being the part of this group. It was because his father who pressurized him to study his ass off and gain good marks. Out of fear, he worked hard and managed to rank under the top 20. Scott was gay but he couldn't find one of his own. It was like he was the only single gay in Williamsburg.

Roman Lockhart was the champ of the Einstein group, followed by Keeley Maxwell and Bren Carson. The students were characterized as bookworms and non-socialite. They were the ones who would never miss the opportunity to remind the teachers in case they forget to give the homework. Each class had its own one and two.

Apparently, the jocks get the more attention of girls but Roman was the only one who had the most number of girls following than any boy ever had. From juniors to seniors, all crush on him. And this was the discussion going on in the class. Where to place Roman now? Is he gonna be the same as before? Or the makeover has some other plans.

Jack and Scott occupied the last conjoined seat in the middle row while Shirley sat on the upfront of them. Seeing that the students were still mooting about Roman, Shirley turned her head to the boys and rested her hand upon their desk.

"The news has reached like fire," stated Shirley, "people are going nuts about it."

"Aren't we also one of those nut fuckers. I still can't believe it was him." Said Jack.

"I wonder what changed him." Scott was bemused.

"That will be a mystery until we ask him," Shirley suggested.

"Don't you remember what he said and let me repeat and quote 'no-gender-discrimination." As he spoke, Scott cracked his knuckles.

"Exactly," Jack agreed," he doesn't want us near him and I'm no interested in getting my ass kicked. He doesn't have biceps but I'm sure he is a bit muscular than before."

"Just a bit if you really ask me, " Shirley stated flatly. "And for a moment I thought Amy was gonna smack him."

Jack scoffed. "Amy is nothing compared to him. Hell, even I don't have balls to face him."

Scott was about to give his reviews on Roman's physique but suddenly the class fell into silence. It was like someone died and people were praying silently. The class hadn't settled but everyone was quiet, their eyes bulging out. Even Jack and Scott's muscles strained. Shirley followed their gaze and turned back her head.

The thudding voice traveled across the classroom as Roman walked inside. Kids were now gawking at him but said nothing. It was like watching an alien invasion that made people freeze at their spot. Roman walks past his first seat; the one always reserved from him. Someone gasped when he reached the last seat by the window and bounced in.

Roman sitting at last seat? What else they were going to see? No one had no idea!
