The Broadcast I

The following day the whole world was in an uproar as nobody could understand how a broadcast could be made mandatory and everyone was anxious to not miss it and be one of the first punished for not attending. Therefore almost all earthlings were eagerly waiting in their homes, staring at their TV monitors. Of course none of this could be made possible without the I.F.'s help. Even while not being a member of the federation the whole world got automated with a software specifically made for evolving a primitive technology into a low leveled AI. This was a concession by the I.F. since earth wasn't united before their arrival and their leaders couldn't come to joint decision, otherwise some people wouldn't be able to vote due to having to regulate traffic or any other public service. Not to mention that the sudden alien encounter and ensuing panic would have let to shutting down earth's whole system anyway. The only exception were government employees and hospital workers since both departments couldn't be abandoned for a whole week, thankfully enough of the latter even showed up due to their own moral obligations.

-Remote regions all around earth-

To let all human beings across the planet attend the video conference Balluo'nok had his crew beam multiple units of manpower and equipment down to earth's surface, installing large holographic screens and translation devices. Additionally he also had some of his researchers teach the most remote indigenous tribes about the recent events and help them learn the universal language, Primodean. A language developed by the original founders of the federation. Ironically while most of humanity didn't even know what tongue the aliens spoke their least developed civilizations got a head start.

"Ahh those savages really are getting on my nerves, why can't we just put them all to sleep and install our devices, then we wouldn't have to interact with these hairless primates!" a researcher complained to his buddy after yet another failed attempt to make their allocated tribe listen to them.

"Be patient, you knew you would have to work with foreign races when you took this job. I don't like dealing with those apes anymore than you but after this is over we won't have to meet them anymore and get to have a nice vacation for the next week. So try to not appear to grumpy otherwise you will make our work even harder by scaring them even more than they already are." his body replied with what seemed to be a smile, on his face.

All researchers assigned on this duty were as humanoid looking as possible since just seeing the equipment and clothes they wore made the indigenous people feel frightened. Most teams consisted of aliens looking like Balluo'nok's species though, gray colored skin with large oval heads and two big black eyes. Their nose was just a cavity with two holes in it and their mouths had no lips, most of them only reached a height of 1,60m though and had grayish white and black hair growing all over them. All in all they looked more like a small deformed gorilla with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis than a human being. There were several other alien races stationed under Balluo'nok but since their fleet's commander was of the Vallod'ok species most of the crew, especially researchers, consisted of his brethren.

Thus the tribes were scared shitless and tried to run away leaving all their belongings and livelihood behind. Some even tried to attack them but were repelled by their force fields, integrated in every federation army suit, which only increased the annoyance of the field teams.

"I know, I know but it would be so much easier to just force them and then erase their memories. Hah..., I wish those primates would have voted against joining us then we could have subjugated them and gotten ourselves some new slaves. My wife called me last month and said our latest addition had to be put down because it didn't work and tried to run away once as well. Can you believe that?" the racist Vallod'okan exclaimed while holding his hands up in a show of peace and making the most hideous smile he could muster.

To the natives it looked a lot like some nightmare creature trying to lower their guard. This tug of war between them and the aliens lasted for four consecutive hours until finally Balluo'nok decided to sent earth's leaders along with his own crew. With people resembling them and the realization that they couldn't escape, in any scenario they could think of, the natives finally settled down and let the alien researchers do their work.

-6 p.m.-

Finally in the afternoon everything was set up and a message was being played on every electronic device capable of transmitting sound.

"ATTENTION PLEASE! ATTENTION PLEASE! The broadcast of your Intergalactic Federation's diplomat and fleet commander of the federation's army, Balluo'nok, will begin in three hours. Every earthling is required to either watch from their home or any public space with suitable communication devices. All who won't comply with this order will be listed in the federation's army boot camp and will be stripped of their rights for participating in the development period of earth!"

This message was played in every language all around the world five times so no human could claim to have missed it. Not that they would have tried after listening to the punishment for neglecting the order. They didn't know how the aliens would do it but in case they really could monitor each being on the planet they didn't dare to play with fire.

-Vienna, Strono household-

The same like everyone else family Strono was listening to the announcement. Since Harald and Dorothea were doctors and felt that they should go to work to help out during the voting week, they just came back 2 hours prior. Now that they knew they could relax for the next few hours Dorothea asked her parents if they could cook up some dinner for them all. Kazimierz jumped at the chance since he always had liked cooking and his wife mostly just baked.

He spent just one hour for preparing the whole family a traditional Austrian dish, namely Wiener Schnitzel with little Alexander getting mashed potatoes instead of grilled ones. As normally Kazimierz's food tasted excellent and the entire family was content and filled before watching the worldwide alien broadcast. They sat on the couch with Alex on his mom's lap, a whole army of pets surrounding them while wanting to be pat.

Soon the remaining time passed and a familiar yet still strange alien appeared on their screen. Balluo'nok has started his broadcast and could be seen standing in front of the podium earth's leaders used the day before. Next to him all of earth's new institution's presidents could be seen with smiles on their slightly pale faces. As professional as they were, none of them had any experience when dealing with a fleet commander of an alien federation army so unfathomable gigantic and strong, earth seemed like a fart in the wind in comparison. They couldn't even begin to comprehend how important such a position was.

"Good evening earthlings! As you all should remember my name is Balluo'nok and I'm fleet commander and your planet's federation's representative. I was the one who first extended the offer for your planet to join and will also support and advise you in all matters related to the I.F. in the next twenty years." he began his speech with eloquence and captured the attention of everyone on the planet.

"First of all I want to welcome each and every one of you into our grand alliance and will gift you a special device capable of downloading information directly into your brain. You should receive said device any moment through teleportation. We call them UCs, Universal Coms, on them a beginner account was already registered in your name and the device can only be used by it's owner, so I suggest you get yourself familiar with it since it will be your most used tool from now on. In case your UC is broken or lost you will have to buy a new one yourself. We already installed our databanks and every UC should work like it's supposed to."

Like the gorilla like alien said family Strono was staring at their Universal Coms which were teleported right in front of them. Each device appeared in the air before their respective owners, they looked like modern metal bracelets without any fancy decorations, all of them were black and when the adults reached towards them they enlarged and smoothly adhered to their left wrists. They could only watch as the bracelet miraculously merged with their wristwatches, changing both into a new sleek combined version of both devices. The one for little Alex kept hovering in front of him since the rest of the family was too dazed to help him put the UC on, not that they would have done so without any experience with it.

While this was leaving every human completely stunned, even the leaders on TV had their jaws drop to the floor as they saw the new apparatus magically appear in front of them and then automatically adjust itself on their bodies.

Balluo'nok just smiled as he was already accustomed to this scene, "Well with this out of the way I will give yourself some minutes to adjust and then begin the explanation about the inner working of the I.F. Do take your time since all of this information is available to everyone of you through your UCs." With that he slowly walked to his seat and enjoyed the flabbergasted reactions of the humans around him.
