Chapter 3

I ran up to Xavier and he engulfed me in a hug.

"You're back," I breathed out as I smile at him. It's had only been two months since I found out that we're mates but it'd been the best two months of my life.

"I missed you," He buried his face in the crook of my neck.

"What's wrong?" I asked noticing the pain in his voice.

"Serena, I- I love you and you know it. Please forgive me for doing this," He stared at me with pain in his eyes.

"Xavier what's going on?" I asked worriedly. I grab his hand in mine to soothe him but he pulled his hand away. The pain that ripped though me was immediate and it must have been evident on my face 'cause guilt flashed through his eyes.

"Serena, I don't have a choice, it's for my pack and you know how much being a strong Alpha means to me," He voice void of any emotion.

I take a step back from him and my eyes fill up with tears but I refused to let them drop, "No."

"Serena, I hope you forgive me-- someday.." He looked pained and all I wanted to do was comfort him but I couldn't get myself to move. The intensity of the pain wouldn't let me.

"I, Xavier Hugh Wilson, reject you, Serena Montgomery as my mate and the future Luna of this pack," He said in a cold voice but I knew he was trying to mask his emotions.

I jolted up right, my hands clutching my chest while my breath came out rugged. It had been a whole year since that incident but it pained me nevertheless. That wasn't even the worst part. He mated with a shewolf half an hour after rejecting me and the pain was unbearable. That was one of the reasons I went to live in the city, and college was just my excuse but here I am again, one year later, stuck with another mate. A mate who'd rather be with someone else then me. Why does this happen to me? I knew I couldn't fall asleep again, even if I tried, so I decided to go for a run. I think my wolf deserves it. She's been itching to get out for two weeks now.

I sighed and slowly got up from my bed. I put on my robe and slowly walk downstairs. Adrian's scent seemed stronger than ever so I reckoned the room opposite mine was his. The calming effect of his spice and musk scent worked its influence on me as the remnants of my nightmare washed off. The nightmares had been constant but the pain never weared off.

I walk out of the back door and breathe in the fresh air. I take off my robe near a large tree and tie it around it. Taking off all my other clothes, I drop them on the ground and quickly shift into my wolf form. The wet grass felt tickled my paws making my wolf purr. I slowly retreated to the back of my mind and let Reign take over completely. I watched her from the back of my mind as she played around in the mud. We reached a stream and she slowly stepped into it to clean her all white fur. It annoyed me sometimes, I had always wanted gold fur.

'Do you think Adrian will accept us?' Reign asked me after a while.

'I don't know,' I sigh. I really don't think so, honestly. I mean he's trying to be nice but I just keep being bratty.

'Then, be nice!' Reign snapped at me.

'Stop reading my thoughts!' I snapped back.

'Oh, I can't help it seeing as we share the same conscience!' She retorted.

I just rolled my eyes at her and took over shutting her out. She tried to take over but I kept blocking her out.

Suddenly a musky scent invaded my senses and I instantly knew who it was. He was standing there in his human form just gazing at me. I felt like his gaze penetrating my soul so I looked away.

"Shift back," He ordered. I just ignored him and turned my back at him which seemed to anger him a bit because it was an act of disrespect.

"Shift now!" He ordered using his Alpha tone. My wolf whimpered at his tone. I slowly walked behind the tree I had left my clothes behind and shifted back there. I changed into my shorts and tank top and put the long robe on.

"What?!" I snap.

"It's not safe for you to come out here all alone," He said calmly but his hands were fisted which meant he was trying to keep his anger in.

What did I even do to him?

"I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself," I replied as I turned away from him.

His eyes darkened and he was in front of me within seconds, "I'm your mate and I expect you to respect me. I will not tolerate disrespect from anyone including you... especially you, and if you do not respect me then you will be punished, understood?" I could feel his minty breath on my face and the promise his voice held was enough to make me want to give my submission to him but my ego would never let me.

"We'll see about that, won't we?" I crossed my arms over my chest and made sure I showed no emotions. I've learnt one thing in the past, never show weakness or people will just take advantage of that and well, ruin your life.

His eyes flashed with amusement, lust and perseverance and he smirked at me, "I will greatly enjoy your submission to me, mate."

"Serena! My name is Serena and If I were you, I wouldn't count on that any time soon," I state firmly.

He half smiled and half smirked at me. How does he even do that?! And why is he so gorgeous?

'He could be a Greek God,' Reign suggested. I rolled my eyes at that. She already approves of him.

"We'll see about that now won't we?" He whispered loud enough for me to hear because we were just a few inches apart, "mate." I just glared at him for calling me that again.

We walked back to the pack house in silence because he wouldn't let me shift and go for a run so I just obeyed him this once and walked back to the house. The sun had started to rise now which meant that the pack members would be up in a while. We entered the house and I made my way towards my room. I walked into the bathroom and took a relaxing shower to get rid of the dirt from my body.

I changed into a pair of high-waist black jeans and a plain grey shirt after I was done showering. I walked out of the bathroom and let out a yelp when I see Adrian standing right next to the bathroom door.

"Ever heard of knocking?" I asked sourly.

"After you're done with breakfast, I need to see you in my office," He said without paying no heed to my sarcasm.

"Okay," I rolled my eyes.

He just looked at me with a raised brow before shaking his head and walking out of my room. I think he was surprised I didn't disobey him.

"Jerk," I muttered under my breath before walking out of the room towards the dining room which was very huge and could fit half of the pack.

"Luna," Caterina addressed me before going back to laying the table. I grit my teeth at being called Luna and just gave her a forced smile. Don't get me wrong, she had been nothing but sweet to me every since I came. The only person I could bear to be around was her but why does she insist on calling me Luna?

"So, she is the new Luna?" A girl said from the opposite side of the table with disgust evident on her face.

"Yes, I am the new Luna," I smiled at her. She seemed familiar and her scent, I knew I had smelt it somewhere... my mates girlfriend! Reign let out and growl and I had to try my best not to let it out in front of everyone.

I just gave her a sweet smile and asked Caterina if she needed help. She just shook her head and smiled at me. Sabrina entered with two plates heaped with waffles and placed one tray at each end.

"I'm glad you did your job without being told for once," Aubrey said while staring at her manicured nails.nI raised my brow at her behaviour but didn't say anything.

"She's the leader of all the bitches," Sabrina whispered to me as she came and sat on my right side, I chuckled at her reference to them.

"Have the waffles, I made them myself, from scratch," She smiled proudly. I just chuckled at her accomplishment and turned around to see Dylan enter.

"Hello ladies, what do we have here?" He sent Doreen a wink which made me want to gag.

"Luna, the alpha wants to see you in his office right now," He turned around to look at me with a serious expression.

"I'm having breakfast, he can wait," I grinned at him.

"Alright but he's not very patient though," Dylan notified me before taking seat.

"Wait, I'll be right back," I smiled at Sabrina and walked out of the dining room. After having my breakfast obviously. I had to annoy him. After all, I haven't done it since yesterday.

I walked towards the office and the musky scent hit me. I inhaled deeply then turned the door knob and walked in.

"You may come in," He said dryly as he saw me by the door.

"What did you want to see me for?" I asked getting straight to the point.

"Your first mate," He replied and I tensed up.

"What about him?" I asked as my breath hitched in my throat.

"I know it's Xavier, why didn't you tell me last night?" He asked as he stared at me intently.

"Because I didn't think it was important," I replied and narrowed my eyes at him. He slowly stood up and walked around the table until he was behind me.

"I saw him touch you," He growled.

"He has a mate now and apparently I have you," I said the last part with a bit of sarcasm.

"Do you still have a bond with him?" He asked me. I could feel his warm breath on the nape of my neck which sent shudders down my spine and excited Reign a little too much.

"Well, not that it's any of your business, but I still have a few bonds with him, but they're just nightmares," I replied.

"Do they pain?" He asked as he lips grazed my skin and I tried really hard not to squirm.

"Sometimes," I replied and tried to turn around to face him but he wouldn't let me.

"I can take all the pain away," He whispered in my ear.

"I don't need you to!" I bit out.

"I'm not giving you a choice," He said and I felt his canines on the nape of neck where I'm supposed to be marked.

"No! I'll never forgive you if you do that!" I yell but he sank his canines in my neck and I screamed in pain.

"You son of a..." I felt light headed and my vision start to blur.

"Sleep. The pains gone, I promise," I heard him whisper in my ear before I fell into darkness.
