Chapter 3

"You should go home and sleep." Kiya said when she saw Cain yawn for the second them. He decided to hang out with her after the pub.

"It's just jet lag. Besides are you forgetting that I’m also a werewolf?" Cain dismissed her concern as he continued to watch on his phone.

“Still I don’t think you’re used to not sleeping at night.” Kiya retorted but Cain just shrugged.

Kiya could sleep for just a few hours and still work the whole night and attend school in the morning because she’s a werewolf and also because her body and mind is used to it. Werewolves are advanced humans who can shift to the form of a wolf but in their human form, they are still different from the normal humans in terms of strength, senses and life span. They are stronger in terms of strength, their senses are heightened and they live longer up to approximately 300 years old. Kiya possess these abilities despite not having her first shift because it’s already embedded in her genes. So it’s also not a surprise that her parents are still alive despite the dangers they inflict on themselves.

Kiya did not bother anymore with Cain, thinking that he'd get up and go home when he feels sleepy. She returned her attention to her notebook since the store is deserted at the moment. Suddenly another thought occurred to her and she looked at Cain once again.

"You're not studying?" Kiya knows they are in the same year but during exams, they are scrambled to different rooms to avoid cheating.

Thankfully she wasn’t paired in the same room as Cain on the first day of exam or else she might actually pass her exam paper blank.

"Too lazy." It has only been a few hours since they become a duo and he's already showing his true colors.

Kiya pressed her lips together and then let it go, chanting in her mind that she does not care. They were still not that close enough for her to nag at him. Somehow her chanting worked and she returned her focus to her notebook. Then she heard the yawn once again and she finally set her notebook down, grabbed the keys in her backpack and walked to where he was sitting. She passed the keys to him.

"If you don't want to go home then you can sleep upstairs in my apartment."

Cain looked at the keys then at Kiya. He could see that she is not that reluctant to let him go to her apartment all alone. It makes him a bit happy that Kiya with a slow EQ actually trusts him to this level. Finally, he smiled and got up.

"I'll take you up on that offer but I'm definitely staying up with you next time."

“You don’t have to. You also don’t have to accompany all the time, it won’t be easy because I’m always on my jobs.” Kiya hesitated. “The truth is that I’m still hesitant because I can’t change my life for you and I also don’t want you to change the normal things you do for me. It’s a hard thing to do since we’re actually really together now but…” Kiya trailed off and started to get nervous.

Cain did not say anything for a short while but suddenly, Kiya was pulled in an embrace. His sweet scent also surrounded her and she automatically calmed down but she didn’t return the hug instead she fisted her hands on her sides. Cain did not mind.

“You’re being ridiculous. Let me explain it for you. Naturally when we meet our mates, our heart changes then the heart would affect the mind for a short while until it adjusts to your permanent presence. I just found out you are my mate Kiya. The first thing that I would like to do is spend the entire day with you because I can’t stop thinking about you. I want to hug you, hold your hand and kiss you. I want to know more about you. I’m not changing anything that would totally change my normal life, you just became my center and I’m just doing things naturally.

Kiya could hear Cain’s heartbeat and it was beating fast just like hers. She wasn’t the only one who is affected by his words; they both were because it’s the truth. Finally, Kiya returned his embrace and just hugged him, going along with the swaying that Cain made, just like a little dance. However, Kiya’s heart could only take the excitement to a limit and she sent Cain to her apartment out of embarrassment. She spent the rest of the night in the grocery store calming her heart and mind.

Cain closed the door behind him and looked around. Kiya’s apartment might seem small but it was actually spacious for only one person. The kitchen and the living room seem to merge as one with the way she had arranged the furniture. There are also two doors on the left. One of them leads to the bathroom that seems to sparkle with cleanliness. The other leads to her bedroom that is equipped with the necessary things a bedroom should have. The first thing he noticed was the books that were neatly piled up on the corner. Upon closer inspection, they seem to be book for travels, mostly picture books that contains some famous places around the globe. Cain took note of them and went on to snoop on the large cabinet that dominated one wall of the bedroom.

The whole cabinet was not full of clothes but rather one side was used as a shelf for more books. This time, it’s a variety of travel books, novels and educational books. He concluded that Kiya loves to read and shook his head then proceeded to inspect her clothes. He is satisfied with what he saw. Her clothes were simple and normal, jeans or leggings, shirts, sweater, jackets and he had noticed the shoe rack by the door earlier that contains sneakers and flats. He had suspected as much when he checked out Kiya when he saw her at school, she was wearing hoodie and jeans. He has no issue with girls wearing revealing clothes since he’s used to seeing his little sister wear those clothes but when it comes to Kiya, it bothers him to imagine that some men would be looking at her in a different way. He is possessive he admits but this is understandable since Kiya is beautiful to anyone’s eyes, not just him.
