TWO.

Xara woke up the next morning and walked into the kitchen.

“Good morning Ma'am." Amanda greeted as she set her breakfast before her.

“Good morning Amanda, how was your night?" She replied.

“It was well, thank you." She smiled at the young girl.

A beautiful young woman with sexy curves walked into the kitchen adorned in skimpy nightwear.

“My breakfast!" She barked as Xara looked on shocked at her behaviour. The lady pulled the food that was served for Xara and began to eat.

“Excuse me, that was meant for me." She fumed.

“And who says I care, peasant." The woman spat.

“I am Kai's wife and demand some respect, who the hell are you?" Xara barked ignoring the signals Amanda was giving her.

“Oh, the peasant wife, the one he married out of Charity?" The woman laughed hurting Xara in the process. She was hurt at how Kai could tell a stranger about them.

“Just give me back my breakfast, Amanda made that for me." She demanded as the mysterious lady poured hot water on her hand making her scream in pain.

Kai descended the stairs as he heard the noise.

“What happened in here?" He asked as the lady burst into fake tears.

“Your peasant of a wife started to insult me and attack me when I came down to have breakfast." The woman blatantly lied.

“That's a lie, Kai it's the other way round, she even poured hot water on my hand." She tried to explain as a hefty slap landed on her face making her scream.

“What have I said about calling Me, Kai, it's Mr Maximillian for you and the next time you harass my guest I won't take it lightly with you, come on babe." He said as the lady followed him.

Xara sat on the chair crying her heart out. This wasn't what she bargained for. She didn't plan to marry into an abusive marriage.

“I'm sorry, Ma'am..." Amanda said as Xara walked out on her. She headed to her room to change and called up Alianna to take her to the hospital.

“You mean, his bitch did that to you and he defended her?" Alianna asked in shock.

“Yes and he couldn't utter a single word, instead I got a slap." She sobbed.

“It's fine, let's just get to the hospital," Alianna said parking at the lot. She helped her friend out of the car into the hospital.

“Hey, she needs urgent attention, how can we see a doctor as soon as possible?" Alianna panicked.

“Calm down Ma'am, just give me a few minutes." She said as they sat down waiting for their turn to be attended to.

“You can go in now." The nurse instructed us they were directed in which way to go.

Her burns were second-degree burns. Her wounds and blisters were cleaned and examined. They were left in place and the wound bandaged with antibiotic ointment and covered with gauze.

“You are good to go now, it's good you got here early." The ER said to them.

“Thanks, doc," Alianna said as she walked out with her friend to foot the bill.

“Have you heard from your family?" Alianna inquired as they sat in the car.

“No, I think I've been sold to this heartless man Alianna, their lines don't go through anymore. I don't think they are even in Brooklyn at the moment Alianna." She sighed.

“You've got me Xara, we would get through this." She consoled.

“I hope so Alianna, this is getting out of hand." She trembled.

“It would be fine, you up for some Mac Donalds?" She tried to cheer up her friend.

“Yes please." She gushed as Alianna backed up from the parking lot.

“Amanda!
" Kai called his maid.

“Sir?" She responded running to him.

“Where's my wife?" He fumed.

“She went to the hospital to get her wound treated." She reported.

“Did she need to go, couldn't it get treated here?" He bellowed.

“Yes Sir, she needed to. The burn was really bad that it needed medical attention." Amanda exaggerated.

“ Shut up and get me some coffee to drink." He insulted as Amanda shook her head and did what she was told.

I pity Xara, I wonder why she agreed to marry this beast of a man. Amanda thought to herself.

“You okay Ma?" Penny, her daughter asked.

“I'm fine love, I just pity Xara." She told.

“She seems like a nice person, I would be her friend to find out why she decided to marry this beast." Penny spat.

“That would be nice of you, get back to your duties please before he starts barking like a wild dog." She said to her mom as she hurried off with his coffee.

Penny was on vacation from school and decided to come to help her mom at home. She hated her mom's boss to the core. She hated how he treated people especially women.

Was he hurt by one? She asked herself as she walked through the gardens.

“Ma'am let me help you with that." She said as she rushed to get Xara's handbag and some other plastic bags containing personal items.

“Thank you and do call me Xara." She smiled at Penny.

“Okay Xara, I'm Penny, Amanda's daughter." She introduced as they walked into the house.

“Nice to meet you too, Penny and thanks for the help, I really needed it." She smiled as she saw her husband by the staircase and walked passed him.

“Hey, did you just try to walk past me?" He boomed dragging her back by the arm. Penny walked off hurriedly as she entered Xara's room to drop her stuff.

“I-I am sorry." She apologised.

“How is your arm?" He asked concern showed on his face.

What do you care? She almost blurted out.

“It's fine." She nonchalantly replied.

“If you say so, you better be careful next time." He said walking away.

Are you fucking kidding me!

I should be careful next time!

What the heck!

Xara wanted to rant but decided against it and walked into her room.

“Are you okay?" Penny startled her.

“I'm fine, you're still here?" She asked sitting beside her.

“Yes, I just wanted to make sure you're fine before I left." She comforted.

“Thank you, Penny, but why are you and your mom being nice to me, the others are just plain rude." She stated.

“I just want to be your friend and mom taught me to be kind to everyone always." She smiled at Xara.

“That's nice of you guys, thank you." She said.

“Anyways, how old are you and where do you school?' Xara started with small talk.

“I am 24 years old and I attend Brooklyn College." She said to her.

“Oh my, I am 25 years old and attend the same college as you, with my friend Alianna." Xara beamed. She was glad about the whole thing. She and Penny could grow to become good friends, she couldn't wait to introduce her to Alianna.

“Oh, that's the best news ever, we could go to college together, hang out, this is great!" Penny exclaimed in happiness.

This was the best news and the best feeling ever since she stepped into Kai's house.

Maybe staying here and being married to Kai wouldn't be that bad. She tried to convince herself.
