Chapter Five

Kenneth's POV

I sit up and look at Roman. Finally he is deeply asleep and I can now slip out of bed. It is late in the night and I had to wait for him to be asleep so that I can leave the room. I had to arrive at the training house of the assassins for a meeting as well as training. Since I can't tell him where I'm going, leaving while he is sleeping is the best idea.

I change into the training uniform and jump out the window. I land carefully and sprint inside the woods. It doesn't take much time as I soon arrive at the house. Some of the guys are wrestling while others are just sitting and charting. The moment I enter the room, they all stop what they were doing and face me.

"Sorry I'm late guys." I apologize. The moment I'm with this group, I take them all as my friends and no one has to be above anyone. It's some sort of brotherhood were we are all equal. But they don't entirely brush off the fact that I'm King. They still respect me as one.

"Hilda, report what you found." I look at her and she nods. I had sent her and two others to search for any kidnappings that might have happened and we missed them.

"So far it seems we have known of all incidents. We didn't find anything new from what we know already." She explains and I nod to her.

"What about you, Damian?" I ask another member whom I sent to get information from Zach's team of humans who are doing their own investigation.

"They refused to share their information."

"They had to; Zach gave an okay to it." I say in irritation.

"But they said Zach didn't inform them of such thing. So I came back with nothing." Damian informs.

"Fine, I will talk to Zach myself." I can't believe they gave them nothing. "Dean, what do you have for me?"

"I got all we needed to know about Rolyns." He announces with a smile that I mirror, finally someone with something worth to hear about. He is the genius and I sent him to gather information on Rolyns.

"A Rolyn can detect or sense direction and location of other healers. They are linked to every healer and can even communicate with a healer, no matter how vast the distance between them is." Ron explains.

"Wow! That's awesome." Clara exclaim.

"How is that information helpful?"

"Oblivious like always, Owen, I see." Dean scoffs and Owen shrugs. I sigh at the exchange as I'm sure they will start arguing soon and to prevent that, I speak up.

"This information is very helpful in a lot of ways but only if we have the Rolyn. Only then can we use him or her to locate the other healers and prevent them from being killed." I state and they agree with me.

"We can always look for the Rolyn then. It is our only way of winning this war or whatever it is." I look at Grace who just suggested we look for the Rolyn. If only they knew that he's in my bed now, sleeping comfortably.

"Isn't it going to be risky? We don't know who the killers are and if they knew we have the Rolyn, wouldn't it be a full on war between them and us? I think it’s even better for the Rolyn to stay hidden. So far they haven't been discovered." Felix point out.

"I agree with him. I think our main focus right now should be the killers. We should know about them or at least find something that can help us in anyway. At least the Rolyn is safe now-."

“But who knows for how long the Rolyn will be safe? The killers are hunting healers and if what Dean said is true, do you think they are also trying to locate the Rolyn through the healers? You said they are connected right? Can the communication the Rolyn has with the healers, be traced back to it?” Owen asks and the room falls silent as we all think about it.

"I agree with both Felix and Amanda. Let's not focus on the Rolyn for now at least. Our focus should be on saving any healers we know about at the moment. Hilda, continue investigating the previous cases; you might come up with something we missed. Dean, find out about what Owen just said. The rest you will be locating healers in all packs and make sure to keep them safe." I give out the orders and then it’s time for training..

After three hours of non-stop training, I announce the end of training. We both leave and I walk back with Dean. It's a silent walk with nothing verbally exchanged between us. The guards bow as I pass by since I don't feel like sneaking in my room. I want to take a shower downstairs before going up to my room.

"Your mother will be here tomorrow, right?" Dean asks out of the blue.

"Tomorrow?" I question teasingly since it was already pass midnight and my mother will be here around sunset.

"I mean today." He corrects himself.

"Yes."

"Are you worried? I mean your mum can actually not be a fan of Roman." He says and I stop and face him.

"Don't worry about my mother, Dean; I will deal with him myself." I tell him and he gives me a nod.

We walk silently the rest of the way until we separate as I enter a guestroom to use the bathroom in there. After a quick bath, I put on a robe and once I get in my room I wear my boxers. I hear movement on the bed and when I look over; I realize my mate was just turning in his sleep. I sigh in relief and slowly climb on the bed without waking him up.

Sleep doesn't come and I stay up the rest of the night beside my sleeping mate. Knowing there is someone out there, looking for my mate didn't sit well with me. In addition to all is the fact that my mate can communicate to other healers anywhere. I won't let him do that though because I'm not sure how it will affect him physically; either positive or worse of all, negative.

At exactly six in the morning, I stand up and put on some clothes. I give the bed occupant one more glance before exiting the room and heading to my office. Since I don't feel tired or need to rest, it's better if I can just work in the office until breakfast. Some of the omegas on duty greet me as I pass them by.

"Alpha, I haven't started cleaning your office yet. I didn't know you would show up early." Judith, an omega that cleans my office, says in a small voice.

"No need to clean for now. You can do it while I will be having breakfast in a few hours." I tell her and she leaves immediately. I enter the office and sit on my chair. With a determined sigh, I get myself lost in the work.

***

"Alpha," I look up the moment the door to the office is thrown open by a guard.

"What is it?" I growl at him and he shakily explains his reason for disturbing me.

"Sir Dean calls for you in the woods."

"That's it? A fucking call is worth barging in my office?!" I growl loudly and he submits in front of me.

"He s-said Sir R-roman is being trouble." He says and I curse then run out of my office immediately. The stupid warrior should have just said Roman from the start and I wouldn't have been wasting time with him.

I run outside of the house and I let my wolf out a bit as it helps me locate my mate by following his scent. I take off in a run and the moment I start feeling him close by, I can also feel more warriors around the place. I approach the circle of warriors and they part for me which then reveals my mate. He's in a stupid fight position and I wonder what's up with that adorable look.

"What is it, Dean?" I ask as I scan a few warriors lying on the ground around my mate.

"Your mate was spotted by some warriors as he tried to leave the pack grounds. I don't understand it myself but one of the warriors says your mate actually knocked out those warriors down." He explains pointing to the warriors on the ground. I move a step toward my mate and he growls at me.

"He's been like that each time I approached him so I stopped and sent for you." Dean informs.

I take another step forward and he growls again. I continue moving close to him and each time I notice his growls getting lesser. I pass the fallen warriors and link Dean to collect them. After they are all collected, I dismiss everyone and they leave quietly.

"Roman," I call out slowly and he whimpers. "I promise I won't hurt you." I say in a small voice to smooth him out of whatever it is. I repeatedly say the words and then he looks at me.

"Ken, help." I reach out and hold him as his body gives out the moment he whispered the words. I hold my unconscious mate in my arms and make my way back to the house. Dean runs to me with a worried expression and I assure him that he's fine and head up to my room.

I lay him down on the bed and sit beside him. I watch him sleep for hours. Dean knocks on the bedroom door as he bears me lunch. He inquires how my mate is doing and I send him off with a shake of my head.

"Who that?" I turn around and see my mate sitting up on the bed. I smile as I look at his adorable sleepy face.

"Me hungry Ken." He whines and I look down in my hands at the tray I'm holding.

"I have food if you want." I show him the tray and he smiles and stands up from the bed but fall back on it.

"Me fine." He shakes off my hand that I offer for help and get up on his own. He disappears in the bathroom then come out a while later. I press the tray on the bed and we both eat silently.

"What happened?" I ask after some time.

"I not know."

"You have to know something Roman; now tell me what happened." I demand.

"He call me." He starts and I remain silent as he struggles to say his next words. "He need help and I help."

"Who called you?" I ask a bit lost. Who would ask Roman for help?

"Voice here." He points at his head and I frown. So a voice calls for him in his mind and he follows?

"Did you take your medications this morning?" Perhaps hearing a voice is an effect of him missing his med. I never heard that he can hear voices or something.

"Yes!" He exclaims with a smile and the wheels begin turning again in my head.

"Did you beat those guys?" I ask after remembering what I saw in the woods. He nods furiously and I look at him dumbfounded. He doesn't look like one to defeat warriors of my pack.

"I get scared, Lyn comes help."

"Who's Lyn?"

"Wolf." He says with a smile.

So his wolf Lyn beat those guys because they scared Roman? I agree with Lyn on this, the warriors deserved a good beating for scaring my mate. But it still didn't explain why he was going away. A voice in the head didn't give me much to look out to, unless…………Is it the healer connection?

My heart jumps in my chest and I feel like I’ve been drenched by cold water. If that was what I think it was, were the killers almost there? Did they know my mate was responding to the connection? There is a large possibility that this might happen again and next time there might be no warriors to stop him.

"You should come to me when the voice calls for your help again. I will go with you to help them." I tell him and he looks skeptically at me, maybe trying to see if I'm kidding. He nods with a smile and I sigh in relief. I am now assured that he will let me know if he wants to leave.

Suddenly, I feel Dean trying to link me and I open to him only to hear something I didn't expect this soon.

"~Your mother is here.~"
