Chapter 8 Leave at Dawn

As the sun rises above the trees, its light brightens the woods making everything visible in seconds. Seth and I stood by our horses, the cold fall breeze kissing our skin. Before leaving we say our final goodbyes to everyone. I mostly said my goodbyes to my sister because she out of all the others I know personally after that we were off. Throughout the journey I saw many animals, some sleeping soundly and others hopping around, playing what looked like tag or hide and seek. This journey isn’t so bad but it doesn’t help that I can’t stop the unwanted thoughts about the night before coming back to the surface of the thoughts. I am still wondering why they had me leave the room? What were they hiding from me? and most of all what does werewolf mating have to do with any of this? I shake my head and push the thoughts down. It isn't any of my business what happened after I left the room. I just want to control my powers so I can finally get back at the monsters that killed my family and tried to kill my sister. It was hours before we found a good spot to sleep and eat.

“You can set up camp while I go hunting for food, I will be back soon,” Seth said before walking into the woods.

I didn’t get a chance to say anything before he left to go find food.
I started to set up camp and start a campfire. It took a little while before I was finished. When I was done I watched as the sun went down and waited as I always did. I listened to the brush of leaves, snap of branches, and twigs. I was brought out of my laser focus when I heard leaves rustling from behind me I slowly grabbed the blade that was in my boat as I stood up and waited for the sound to get near enough where it was behind me I swung the hand with the knife and faced what was coming only to roll my eyes and the shocked face that Seth was giving me.

“ you shouldn’t sneak up nor walk behind someone who has lived in fear of what is in the woods at night,” I said agitated

“ I didn’t mean to scare you I will try to be more careful,” he said

That night we had rabbit for dinner, then went to bed.
We still slept in the same area.  The very next morning I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, the sunlight leaking through the hanging doors that separated us from the woods. I turned to look at Seth and saw he was still asleep. ‘He looks so peaceful when he sleeps’ I thought to myself. His arm was draped around my waist limp and with no strength. That's when I heard a blood-curdling scream that had me baring my head into Seth's chest. I covered my ears and started to panic. My chest started to tighten up and I couldn't breathe. At the same time, Seth woke up with a start he grabbed me by the arms and forced me to look at him.

“ Hey, Hey, Hey breath, come on breath in through your nose and out through your nose and out through your mouth,” He said trying to get me out of my panic attack

“It’s ok they can’t get to you just breathe I put us in an invisible bearer and shield” he continued Slowly my breathing started to go back to normal.

Hours passed from the time I had my panic attack, we haven’t talked scene then all he kept doing was watching me as we rode the horses to the next town.
The whole time keeping my head down scared that he will see through my mask. See to the broken person I have become, see my heart broken to pieces, see that I am vulnerable and that I need help but refuse to get it because there is no need I mean who wants to be with someone like me? Or at least that's what I thought.
