This Is Not A Prank

Prologue:

Jane and Val were best friends and neighbors. They practically grew up together.

They met when they were six years old, sharing a seat in their school bus, they asked each other for their names. Since then they save a seat for one another wherever they go - in the classroom, in the canteen, at the library.

They got along so well despite their contrasting characteristics, Val is fair-skinned, Jane has darker skin. Val has green eyes, while Jane has blue eyes. Val has straight blonde hair while Jane has brown wavy locks. Val is tall and curvy while Jane is petite and slim.

It’s peculiar how these two girls ended up as lifelong friends, they don’t have a lot in common, but they accept and love each other for who they are. Even in school they are the polar opposites, Val is the popular girl, while Jane is the smart one. Val is the head cheerleader, while Jane is the whiz kid. They complement each other and support each other as well.

They also have contrasting taste in men. Jane likes smart guys, Val likes funny guys.

After high school, they took different courses but attended the same university. Their different choices like most of their differences did not affect their friendship, Jane wanted to be a journalist and Val wanted to be an engineer. And as they went on with their lives, they found themselves in the same situation - they both fell in love – Jane with their College’s Magna Cum Laude and Val with the Captain of the Basketball Varsity Team.

Their husbands, Sam and Erwin got along fabulously.

They got married the same year and got pregnant the year after that, they bought houses beside each other making sure their kids will end up as friends too.

Jane and Sam had a boy, they named him Alexander.

Val and Erwin had a girl, they named her Alessandra.

Those babies were born days apart and their lives are intertwined forever.

They had hoped that Alex and Allie will grow up to be good friends just as they have, but they could not be more wrong. Alex and Allie were pushed into a life together, they grow up together despising the life they Mothers have forced them into.

Alex pulled Allie's braids when they were five, Allie shaved Alex's head when he was sleeping when they were twelve. Alex pranks her and she pranks him right back. They fight and argue and almost never agree on anything.

He's annoyed with her. She can't stand him.

It's their last year in high school, soon they will live separate lives. Soon they will be able to make decisions for themselves, they won't need to see each other every morning, they won't need to share a ride in school, they won't need to be forced into family dinners.

She's going to celebrate her birthday without the annoying neighbor sharing her party. He's going to be away from the girl who drives him insane.
