The Billionaires Runaway Mate

Untitled Stolen Identity

Amelia had four months just four months until Havier Kristof the mob boss of her local residence comes for her head. The bills had begun piling up and she struggled to find a decent job. She lay on her bed staring up at the ceiling the fourth and final eviction notice still in her hands. The tears flowed through her eyes in waves. This was her family home, all her life had been here. She hoped her mother would have gotten better by now but still nothing. Dementia had taken over and the cost of her medical bills had become too much.
Her phone rang and she struggled to get off the bed and find underneath the heaps of clothes scattered around the floor.

“Hello?

“Amelia hey it's Molly just wanted to let you know your mum is asking for you.
” The voice said making a burst of hope burn in Amelia. Her mother hardly ever remembers her these days.
“Great Molly that’s good news I’ll be there in fifteen minutes,” Amelia burst out as she rushed to get her Jacket and put on her winter coat.
She didn’t have enough money to take the bus and she had sold her car a few months ago. Amelia looked at the rundown Queens City of New York and sighed. The snow was falling down in waves, she’d have to walk on foot toward the Richmond Psychiatric facility from here.
By the time she arrived there was no one except for a few nurses in a circle whispering to each other.

Molly was one of them, her hair blond hair stood out from the rest of the scrub-wearing people talking, she walked towards her.

“Hey Molly, what’s going on?
” Amelia asked hesitantly. The blond turned around only to scream and hold her hand to her chest.
“Jesus Amelia you gave me a fright, I just talked to you how did you get here that fast,” Molly said as she walked away from the rest of the nurses to guide Amelia down the hall.

“It’s been twenty minutes I’m actually late so what’s happening?
What’s the latest gossip?” Amelia asked looking over her shoulder to gaze at the still-talking nurses.
“Oh it’s awful, there’s this patient we have called Scarlett she’s been with us for a while now and she just killed herself.
The poor girl was found in a pool of blood.
“That’s awful,” Amelia said.
Stories like these make her fear for her mother’s life, maybe she really should take care of her by herself.
“Yeah I know, she actually looks a lot like you, it’s scary that’s why I screamed my head off back there.
I’m supposed to compile her documents and send them off to storage. We just buried her two days ago, the poor girl didn’t have anyone. We still don’t have the damned death certificate though, the offices are striking, I don’t know when they’ll be open.” Molly kept rambling as they climbed the familiar white staircases filled with painted steel rails.
“So the nurses are freaked out too?
” Amelia asked.
“What?
Oh! No sweetheart, Bernadette just said that there’s this rich woman in Manhattan interviewing nurses for a live-in job, everyone was talking about it. They say she needs a live-in nurse to handle some anonymous rich guy’s physiotherapy. Some of us wanted to apply but we’re either too old or too experienced not to mention we know nothing about that. She’s interviewing people at the Mark Hotel every Wednesday. Half of New York had been denied. Anyways you’re mothers in the game room. I need to go and do some paperwork.
Amelia smiled at the retreating nurse and walked into the small tiny living room.
Her mother’s small thin frame was sited by the large floor-to-ceiling windows. Her hair had gone white now with old age. Amelia remembered there was a time it looked just like her own, Fiery red and so thick. Amelia had gotten her eyes from her father though, the emerald green eyes looked too similar that sometimes she felt a tear running down her cheek whenever she remembers.
“Mum?
” she whispered softly as she looked at the old woman sited in the rocking chair, she stared at her and smiled.
“Amelia there you were I was just thinking about you.
” Her mother said making her heart burst with excitement. Her mother remembered her, it had been so long since she’d heard her call her name.
“Hi mum it’s me, it’s your little Amelia,” she said holding back the tears, how she’d missed moments like these.

“Amelia darling why are you crying?
” The old woman held her daughter's cheek lovingly and Amelia melted into the familiar touch craving it like a drug.
“Nothing, I just missed you that’s all mum.

“Oh honey, you and your father have just been gone for twenty minutes, where is Patrick anyways he was supposed to bring your  cake here, are you happy you’re turning ten.
” Amelia felt the false illusion that had been surrounding her crack and the sadness overwhelmed her. Her mother was gone, she truly was.
“Mum, dad died five years ago.
” Amelia said her voice raspy and tired, she’d done this often but it never gets easier, the old woman shook her head, “No baby, he was just here don’t make silly jokes now go and call your father so we can celebrate your birthday.
“Mum, I’m….
I’m 23 years old,” Amelia said she tried to hold her mother's hand but the old woman pushed her away and began screaming.
“No, No, you’re lying where’s my daughter?
Where’s my husband, stay away from me. what is this place I want to go home , Patrick! Amelia! Where are you!
Amelia tried to restrain her but she couldn’t.
Molly came in running towards the old woman with a needle and sedative finally calming down the old woman. Amelia hid in the farthest corner of the room. She had no one else, her mother had been getting worse and worse these past few months and now seeing this.
“Hey, are you okay?
” Molly walked towards her, rubbing Amelia’s back softly and pulling her into a brief calming hug.
“I will be, Thanks Molly,”
“No problem sweetie but I think we need to talk.
” Molly said pulling a softly crying Amelia towards the door, “I didn’t want to tell you this right now but it’s about your payment, you’re three months behind and…. Well, they’ve given you a month if you won’t be able to pay at least half then I’m afraid your mother would have to be discharged. It’s not okay sweetie honestly, It’s-“
“I know I know Molly, it’s just been really hard for me, I lost my job in the café shop and diner so I’m a little behind but I’ll get it,” Amelia said trying to stay focused, Molly gave her the concerned look she always gave her.

“Okay sweetie just take care of yourself,” Molly said handing her a small file that was on the floor, “Do me a favor sweetie and take this to storage, I don’t want to bother you it’s just I need to get your mother to bed, I’ve done a double shift and my feet are sore, Franks there cleaning the buckets, I don’t want to see that damned creepy janitor but you get along great with him.

“Franks a sweetheart Molly,” Amelia Laughed a little bit, the nurse somehow always knew how to get her spirits high.

“If sweetheart means a creepy old man who freaks me out then yes now are going to do it or not,” Molly pushed the file into her hands.

“Of course, I will Molly, “Amelia said taking the file in hand and watching the Nurse walk back into the room, pick up the old woman, and disappear into a little room to the right writer 23.

Amelia stared at the file for a while and opened it, it was simply curiosity but when she did, she felt her blood run cold.
The little photograph on the top right corner looked almost exactly like her, even her red hair only Amelia had freckles adorning every part of her face and this girl’s skin was flawless. Her eyes were green whereas hers were a deep brown.
“Scarlett.
A. Heart, “Amelia read out loud as she looked through the pile of certificates ID, and Drivers licenses. The woman’s whole life was in this. Scarlett had been a nurse for two years working with disabled veterans, she had also been three months older than her. Amelia turned around to see if someone was playing a sick joke on her but there was no one, in this little file held the life of a dead woman, a dead woman who looked exactly like her. Amelia bit her lip, the anxiety building within her.
Molly had said that there was that job interview happening.
If she got it then her life would be okay? She'd be able to afford to keep her mother here and could live a quiet and peaceful life. No one would know, right?
Amelia paced the hallway, this was absolute madness but this was also a new chance, she could just go to the interview and if she doesn’t get picked then she just returns the file and nothing would have ever happened.
She could explain her eye color saying that she wore contacts and makeup can cover her freckles, she could even wear her hair back so it won’t look fuller.
Amelia placed the file in her handbag this was insane, this was fraud, this was illegal, this was stealing a dead woman’s Identity but what was there to do?
She needed to survive she just needed to get on her feet and everything will be okay. Amelia ran down the stairs and out of the hospital. Tomorrow she’ll try her luck and if nothing happens she’ll be back, what’s the worst that could happen?
