Chapter Four

What did he say? She’s unexpected.

When they arrived at his hotel, he was about to invite her to his room.

But she went to the receptionist to ask for a room. He turned to Ryan to check if he’d made preparations. The look of horror on his face was enough of an answer to him. Who expected her to actually check-in by herself? He frowned. Wasn’t she concerned about money previously? How come she’s suddenly willing to spend so much on a room in this five-star hotel? It couldn’t be cheap.

He should’ve asked her during their ride on the way here. He could’ve countered this situation. Now, it’s too late to arrange anything. He’s not sure what happened but she was quiet on the road. He didn’t mind as he figured they would have time when they get to his room. Now, though…

When she turned to face him, she showed him two thumbs up as she walked over.

“I got a room. Thank you for helping me out.

What just happened? He was trying hard to contain his annoyance. This wasn’t part of his plan.

“How much did you spend?” He can’t help asking.

“Well, it’s much. Made a dent on my account. I can tell you’re tired, you should go and have a rest. Or would you like to see my room? It’s probably not as grand as yours.

His frown deepened.

“How do you know mine is grand?

She gave him a grin before stepping back. She flicked her hand towards him, like a fan.

“Your presence alone says ‘make way for the king’. Don’t be offended, I don’t mean anything by it, but you do look like money. Tell me, did you book the presidential suite? Or any suite, really.” She waggled her eyebrows at him. He’s not sure how to reply to her. Is he supposed to be mad or what? He’s confused.

She’s right, though. He’s at the presidential suite. It’s his hotel, after all. Wait, would she suspect anything if the manager suddenly tells her that every room is booked? Given how she assessed him, he suddenly felt like she’s actually smart. He had to step back tonight and let this incident go. He’s back to square one.

Back to her question. Should he admit? Recalling her statement, maybe she won’t notice if he replies to one of her questions.

“Is it okay for me to see your room?

“Sure. But you do look like you need rest. How about tomorrow morning instead? My room’s 1108. Feel free to knock.

He’s starting to really believe she’s intelligent. She’s got his game messed up.

She gave him her room number. Does she expect him to reciprocate? It would give away the fact that he’s at the best suite. Does he want her to know about it this early or not?

He gave her a curt nod. “See you tomorrow, then.

She smiled as a reply. He doesn’t need to worry about her luggage as a staff of the hotel came to help her carry them.

They still rode the elevator together, though. Instead of pressing the top floor, he only pressed number 14.

He watched her go. She even waved at him as the elevator door closes.

“Sir…” Ryan started, but he stopped him with a gesture. He doesn’t want to discuss this right now. He made some serious miscalculations.

“What information do you have about her?” He decided to ask this question first. How come she’s not concerned about money this time?

“I was able to get some information about her. She’s an accountant, sir. She also used to teach as a college professor. She’s had a couple of businesses to her name, but she closed them after a few years.

“And currently?

“Still an accountant, sir.

He became silent as he mulled it over. An accountant, huh? Who’s to say she’s got no money? She probably has her money tracked into the last cent. Though someone’s profession is not a guarantee of their personal behavior, he could tell she’s got a tight leash on her finances. He can’t tell for sure if that means she’s rich or not, though.

For the first time, he had to change his tactics. He himself had to adjust to a situation regarding a woman. He suspects that she noticed the change in his demeanor. He was starting to get impatient. He wanted her in his bed.

If worse comes to worst, he might as well just kidnap her and keep her hostage. He stopped his train of thoughts when the elevator door opened. He glanced at it, realizing his assistant did press the number for the top floor.

“See if you can find more things about her.” He directed.

“Yes, sir. Do we still continue to keep her out of inns, motels, and hotels, sir?

He turned to look at him. He nodded. “Except this hotel. It would be clearly suspicious if she gets ejected tomorrow. She already checked-in.

“I understand, sir.

“You’re dismissed.” He strode to open his room, pausing for a second before continuing. When his patience runs out, things would get ugly.

Jill was still contemplating about her situation. No matter how she looks at it, it doesn’t seem natural. She checked. There’s no event whatsoever. She checked the app and saw a lot of vacancies. Maybe she should’ve used it much earlier. She could be stupid when it comes to technology. Just because she learned where the inns and hotels were located, she decided to walk in. She was turned away every single time. She took their word for it. They’re booked. No more rooms available.

Looking at it now... Someone’s definitely playing with her. She let out a huge breath. She has a sneaking suspicion who it could be. Unless she encountered some psychopath these last few days, in which case she’s gonna have to report a case to the police. She didn’t research how to go about that route. Damn it.

Okay, maybe it’s not a psychopath. Maybe it’s that guy. But why, though? She didn’t peg him as someone… manipulative. This reek of manipulation.

Wait, is he a psychopath? Ugh. Jill plopped on the bed, her head starting to ache. Should she run? He doesn’t really look like he’s got mental issues or something.

Okay, maybe she can talk to him tomorrow and ask. That could work. He still seems like a really nice guy.

Wait, her judgment hasn’t been good when it comes to men, actually. Maybe she’s wrong again, and he’s definitely not someone to mess with.
