Chapter Five

“If you are all ready, position your car to the starting line” the man said so I maneuver my car going to the starting line.

I look around and smirk mentally when I saw a white sports car beside my car. Seems like fate is helping me with this mission. I rolled down my window on the right side and tried to look at the person sitting on the driver’s seat. But her car windows are heavily tinted hence I can’t see anything and anyone inside. Just damn it!

I pointed my gun to her side, not minding if she can see me right now or not. I can kill her at this moment. But of course I won’t, no, not now. I still have a lot of questions on my mind so I need her alive.

I heaved a sigh as I put down the gun.

“Alright, let’s finish this game immediately” I mumbled and place the gun on the dashboard.

“Good luck racers” he said once again before walking away to the race track. The whole arena was filled with noise of the people. It’s almost midnight yet the people here are still energetic to cheer for their bets. They still have the energy to shout, to bash and to watch us, almost dying here in race track.

I smirk. What a competition! I never thought racing could be this thrilling and exciting.

The race track changed, Agent Snow. I can see a lot of traps right now. It’s better if you let them drive first.

My forehead creased in confusion “I can’t do that. I need to watch someone’s moves”

But on a second thought, I think it’s a good idea. I should eliminate my other opponents first.

A brunette woman walk going to the center while holding a black and white flag. She’s smiling at us playfully like she knew what will happen on this round. She’s wearing a mini skirt and a black and white fitted croptop, revealing her bellybutton with piercing.

She raised the flag so I readied myself. I hold the steering wheel tightly.

“Ready… Set…” she said as I inhaled deeply.

“Go!” she put down the flag. I exhaled and watch them drive their cars in full speed.

Exactly fifty meters away from them, I drive my car fast. I didn’t mind the possible traps along the way since I know Agent Iris will warn me beforehand. I grab the gun on the dashboard and accelerated my speed.

There are big artificial humps in all lanes. No need to decelerate. Just maintain your fast speed.

I did what she said and I almost break my neck after I passed through the uneven road.

“Ouch” I uttered and touch my neck. I felt a little dizziness because of those humps.

    Change lane now!

“Shit! Don’t shout at me!” I said annoyed and immediately changed lanes. I can see two cars in front of me trying to bump each other’s car.

I’m sorry. I didn’t see the nails and broken glasses on your lane. It could’ve damage your wheels if I’m a seconds late to warn you.

I breathe exasperatedly while maneuvering the car with my left hand.

Since my windshield was already broken, it is now easier for me to eliminate the cars in front. I cock the gun I’m holding and aim it to their wheels before pulling the trigger nonstop. A continuous loud bang echoed in my ear. Too bad, only the car on the left side had stopped. When I stared at his car intently, his two wheels on the back were flat.

I smirk before accelerating my car again.

“Is there any trap ahead of us?” I asked while looking around. I’m on the fourth place and one car has been eliminated. Two more to go before I face the Evil of the race.

Nothing. But look at the side of the race track.

I took a quick glance at my surroundings. The metal fences that serves as a barrier and protection for the watchers became a deadly trap. The fences was still there but there are also screwdrivers, ice picks and a sharp knives hanging and were pointed to us.

“Alright. I know what to do” I said to Agent Iris as I drive my car faster. When I got the chance to be tied on the third placer, I bump his car going to the side. I even heard the irritating sound of his car receiving a big scratch from the side. The sharp tools on the side surely ruined the awesomeness of his car.

“What the fuck did you do to my car?

I blink twice before looking at the man who shouted at me. He’s the winner from the third round. The man who paid the blonde girl with five million in exchange of winning.

I didn’t bother to answer his obvious and stupid question. I bump his car again, pushing his car to the side even more. I don’t care if it created holes to his car but I’ll surely destroy it more.

“You’re fucking insane, woman! Stop it!” he shouted while looking at me through his window. I glared at him before I raised my gun and shoot him on his left shoulder. I heard him groan in pain as he loses control to his car. It’s my chance now. I push his car harder on the side until his car was stuck to the screwdrivers and ice picks. Well, not really stuck. He can still continue driving but that would only ruin more his car. His choice.

“Loser” I mumbled and smirk at him before I drive my car in full speed. There are two opponent left before I win.

There are traffic cones on your way. Avoid it and be caref—

I didn’t let her finish her warning. I intentionally drove faster, not minding the orange traffic cones. I bump all of it and shove it to the corner of the race track. I don’t have much time for playing, we’re only half lap away from the finish line.

“What’s happening to the two cars in front?” I asked while maneuvering the car. It’s not just a simple traffic cones, the road has rumble strips that makes it hard for me to drive faster.

The white sports car is currently on the first place, followed by the shiny brown sports car. The latter are throwing bombs to the white sports car, and shooting its wheels with gun.

I mentally rolled my eyes. They didn’t wait for me to watch the fireworks.

“How many meters before I can tie with them?

Maybe around one hundred meters. They will probably decelerate later after seeing the sticky liquid on their lanes.

Damn. Those sticky liquid gives me headache. I wasn’t really good in controlling the car and those sticky liquid makes it more difficult for me to handle it.

Just a little warning Agent Snow. You really need to decelerate especially that there are metal pipes that will block your way out to those sticky liquids.

“Damn it” I hissed. This round is surely difficult “How many minutes left?

    Fifteen minutes.

Good, that would be enough time to capture Eliza Lim.

I can already see the brown sports car in front, struggling on the sticky liquid.

I automatically decelerate my speed and tried to avoid the metal pipes. But what shocked me is seeing Evil effortlessly driving her car sideways to get out from this sticky liquid. I didn’t think twice and imitate her strategy. I move my car sideways as I was trying to avoid the metal pipes. It’s still hard especially the metal pipes are scattered everywhere. And I think not only metal pipes but also sharp nails.

Move your car to the side. It’s free from metal pipes.

“But not free from screwdrivers and ice picks” I answered and snickered “I can’t afford to destroy this car even more”

I think I lasted five minutes there before I finally got out from it. Instead of following Eliza Lim, I quickly make a U-turn until I finally face the car of Greg. The unfair player of second round. He’s still struggling to get out from there. Too bad, I won’t give him chance to play more with us.

I grab my gun again, just to see that it runs out of bullet. I throw it away.

“Useless” I whispered and try to find anything to eliminate him in this round. I checked every corner of this car, but there’s nothing I can find. I already checked the cupboard, passenger seat, back seat and even the floorboard on the fifth round, but there’s really nothing. Knowing Edward, I’m sure he left a gun somewhere here. But where could he possibly hid it?

I looked in front and Greg is almost done struggling on the sticky liquid.

I immediately close my eyes and rub my silver ring as I think hard for solution.

Those agent who wasn’t that good with physical combat, we advised them to always carry a weapon they can perfectly handle. And the nearer the weapon to them, the safer they are. If I were to stood in Edward’s place, I’ll hide it on the back of my pants, on my shoes or in this driver’s seat I’m sitting on. Right! It was probably under my seat. I haven’t checked it yet.

Cross fingers. I really hope that it has something useful.

I opened my eyes and check it. I almost yell in happiness when I found a pistol and a lighter attached on my seat. But wait, is Edward smoking?

I shook my head. I have no more time to think about that. I immediately pointed my pistol to Greg’s direction. He looked shocked but he smirk afterwards. I cocked the gun and pulled the trigger, only to find out that his car is bulletproof.

I mentally smirk. You’re lucky today because you won’t die on my hands.

Instead of shooting his windshield, I shoot every parts of his car. He can’t escape now. He even stop maneuvering his car to get out from the sticky liquid. I guess, he surrender already. But I still want to make sure.

When I saw his gas leaked and it mixed on the sticky liquid, I bring out the lighter.

“Say Happy New Year” I playfully said and lit the lighter before throwing it in front of his car. His eyes widen in shocked and he automatically unbuckle his seatbelt. If he can’t get out there for one minute, his car will explode together with him.

I devilishly turn my car and speed it up. And I was right, in one minute, I heard a loud explosion not too far from where I am.

The white sports car is two kilometers away from the finish line.

I accelerated my speed more. I need to make it faster so I could tie with her and do what I planned. If I’ll lost this chance, I don’t know where to find her again. Everything I did will become useless and I definitely need to start again from scratch.

The white sports car suddenly stopped.

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

I don’t exactly know the position of the car but I’m sure it stopped. It’s around two hundred meters away from you, third lane from the left. I can’t see it clearly Agent Storm. A thick smoke is covering it. I guess it’s a trap to block your eyesight from seeing the track.

Seriously? How many traps were here? The one who made this is surely a hindrance for every racer. He made sure not to let anyone win the contest.

I’m almost near the trap when I saw Evil’s car along the way. Agent Iris is right. She really stopped her car and that made me smile playfully. She’s really interesting. I am curious to know what’s running on her mind at this moment. She made me this so curious. To why she became a threat, to why everyone is scared of her, to why she’s not letting anyone see her face and to why she suddenly stopped her car here where everyone can’t see what’s happening behind this thick smoky road, to think that she’s only a kilometer away from the finish line. She already have the chance to win, but she didn’t do it.

I blocked her car with my car. I breathe heavily and lean on my seat.

One, two, three, four, five, six… I lost count for the seconds I’m inside the car and waiting for her to get out from her car. I don’t know if she’s waiting for me to get out first or she’s waiting for me to continue the competition. She was hard to read. And I wonder what’s her intention for stopping her car here.

I shiver as I felt the danger ahead of us both.

I was about to unbuckle my seatbelt when she suddenly drove her car and bump me with full speed. I didn’t expect it. I felt the impact from it and I heard the sound of broken glasses from my window. My head moves on the right and in front, causing me to bump my forehead on the steering wheel. The seatbelt lessen the damage I could get but still, I can feel the blood gushing out now from my forehead.

    “Fuck” I muttered.

I flinch when I felt a small glasses scattered all over my seat and on the floorboard. Before I could even react, Eliza Lim drive her car backward before changing lanes and speed it up going to the finish line.

Somehow I manage to endure the pain and touch my earpiece.

“Hack the system here and block all the possible doors. Don’t let anyone goes out from the arena” I ordered in a serious tone.

    Copy, Agent Snow.

Despite of the wounds I got, I drive the car going to the finish line. I can still hear the people cheering, but only one name lingered in the arena. It’s Evil.

I roam my eyes around and look for her until I saw her car beside Greg who’s now leaning on the wall with arms crosses. He looks furious. The way he stares at me signifies how mad he is because of what I did. I almost killed him. But that was ‘almost’.

I rolled my eyes and walk going to Eliza’s car. I opened her car’s door, only to find out that she’s not there anymore. Damn! She’s so fast!

I sigh deeply and look at Greg’s direction.

“Do you know where she is?

He smirk like he knows something I do not know.

“If yes, do you think I will tell you?” he asked playfully while still looking at me furiously.

I shook my head. What a useless crap!

I turned my back at him but he seems like in a mood to get even because he grip my left arm so hard. I faced him and look at his hand on my wrist. He didn’t let go of my hand instead he pulled me and slammed me on the wall.

    I silently groan in pain.

    “Let go” I coldly said.

“I lose because of you” he said with emphasis to each word he is saying. His smiles faded. He looks more monstrous now, like he can kill me anytime he wants. Don’t even try to lay a finger on me again.

    “Move” I simply said again.

His eyebrows meet in a single line and move his hand going to my neck. He wants to choke me to death. But before he could even do it, I grab his arms and twist it on his back. I didn’t give him the time to react and I immediately kick his legs and made him kneel in front of me.

I heard him yell in pain. Oh I love to hear that, jerk. I kick his back hard before I push him to the ground. He cursed me while curling his body on the ground. Even though I wanted to watch him and laugh at him, I can’t because I’m running out of time.

I left him lying on the cold ground and run towards the bleachers. I look for her everywhere, not minding the look they are giving me. Who cares about them? Tsk! She’s out of my sight. She probably run away now or perhaps hiding somewhere here in arena.

“Congratulations once again Evil. It was a good show to everyone” the man holding a microphone said while looking at one particular direction. I followed his gaze. And there she is, standing on the VIPs’ bleachers, wearing her black wool longsleeve, white pants and a black ankle boots. Her back is facing me so I still can’t see her face, only her braided black hair.

I immediately run going to VIPs’ bleacher and look for her. She’s planning to leave the place, good thing that the door from her side is locked.

    I mentally smirk.

“Evil” I whispered and walk going to her direction. I can see that she stiffened upon hearing my voice. I was just standing behind her back. Finally, I was only a few steps away from her. I can reach her by now.

She fish out her cell phone from her back pocket. I don’t know what she’s doing but I am waiting for her to face me.

Minutes passed but she was just standing there like she didn’t heard me so I impatiently grab her arm. But everything happened so fast when she twisted my arm in a single movement and give me a quick punch on the face. I fell on the ground. Dang! That hurts. I immediately stood up but she turn her back again and effortlessly open the door.

I run towards her. Darkness envelops the place when we’re finally out of arena. But I can still see her. She’s facing me now, wearing a white handkerchief that covers her nose and mouth. Her eyes are blazing while looking at me. It’s pure black. But at this moment, I felt a familiar feeling while looking straight to her eyes. Is she wearing an eye contact lenses?

I walk slowly while still staring at her eyes deeply. It’s cold.

Her eyes narrowed before she took a step back. But before she could run away, I grab her wrist and dodge her other arm that was about to twist my arms again. I pulled her towards me and tried to remove the cover from her mouth but she bump my head using her head.

“Ouch!” I painfully exclaimed. I touch my forehead. I got wound from bumping my head to the steering wheel and she just made it more painful by bumping her head into mine.

She quickly grab the chance and punch me nonstop till I fell into the ground again. I dodge her punch and hold both of her arms. I am lying on the ground while she’s on top me, sitting on my stomach while breathing so fast. She remove my hand from griping her wrists and pull out something on her pocket. Before I could even avoid it, I already felt a stinging sensation of pain the moment she stabbed my left leg with her small dagger.

“Damn it” I hissed and remove it.

Before she stood up, she step on my wounded leg that made me groan in so much pain. I seriously don’t know what to do first. I should be trying my best to capture her but I also need to amend first my wounds. I’ll die in her hands if I wasn’t in a good state to fight.

She sit on my stomach again but her back is facing me. And it shocked me when she remove the handkerchief on her face and use it to tie my wounded leg. She’s applying a first aid on my wound to stop it from losing more blood.

I am bewildered for a brief moment, until she stood up and walk away without saying anything. I didn’t even have the chance to see her face.

I sit on the ground and look at the white handkerchief on my leg. What just happened?
