Katherine Blumem

The day at work was awful. I couldn't stop thinking about how much of a coward I was and didn't walk into that room to say thanks properly and Vivian's question didn't leave my mind, "Will you at least come back later?" Dammit, of course I wanted to go, but I don't know if I could get into the room.
 
 
That was the problem.
 
 
I attended to all the customers in a half-avoided and slow way. Something that caught the attention of my fellow cashiers, but she already knew what had happened to me, since Maite insisted on telling everyone.
 
 
Jonathan hadn't stopped looking at me since I arrived, his eyes showed a certain concern, which I believed.
 
 
At lunchtime, I went to the staff room where there were few employees since for lunch we had to change "shift" so the cashiers could continue working during lunch.
 
 
Maite was waiting for me with her hand behind her back and grimacing. The others were either silent or watching the only small TV in the room. I frowned.
 
 
Katherine - Are you ok?
 
 
Maite - Today I carried some very heavy boxes. she sighed wearily.
 
 
Katherine - I should have left it to the guys... I commented taking a plate and starting to serve myself - In my bag there must be some pain medicine.

I took a deep breath going to sit on the couch farthest from the others. I usually sit with them, but Maite apparently won't stop talking about it and I want privacy so we can talk.

Once again her strong scent nearly killed me, after giving me a hug after knowing I'm fine, she released me early. I grabbed my things and said goodbye to Maite.
 
 
She looked angry for not going with me, but she understood the real reason for not taking her. I needed to do this alone. Just me. And only. Jonathan was walking in when I came out of the supermarket, we almost hit each other.

I went to the stop and waited almost an hour for the bus to show up, I got on it seeing some empty seats, which has improved my mood since I spoke to Jonathan.
 
 
An hour later, I entered the hospital and identified myself at reception. It was the same girl from the morning who told me that Klaus's relatives were in the room too. I tucked the small white visitor's paper into my clothes and walked down the hall to the bedrooms.

Vivian was in the chair laughing, Edgar was in the other chair and Klaus was looking at me in surprise. I spent a few seconds just looking at them.

I entered the room and stood there.
 
 
Katherine - Sorry..pa. I coughed nervously because Klaus was looking at me - Earlier today I was late for my work. I said awkwardly.

God only knows how grateful I am to that man and I would do anything to make up for what he did for me.
 
 
We looked at each other again.
 
 
Katherine - Do you know when you will be discharged?
 
 
Ucker - The day after tomorrow and I will need rest at home. he made a funny face - I'm too restless to just sit around doing nothing.

We said goodbye and each one went to their duty. I opened my cashier and as it was still early, I was relieved because there weren't many people. The morning started to get hectic when my boss announced a promotion at the entrance to the supermarket.

The whole morning was busy and intense.

We left the room and when Vivian unlocked her car Maite opened her mouth in admiration. I told her to close her mouth and walked in the front. Maite stood back, gaping at the car.

We got out of the car and she started the engine.
 
 
We entered the building and passed in front of Dona Lolla. Maite frowned and I ignored her existence. Dona Lolla muttered something as we passed.
 
 
We entered the house and Zoraida still hadn't arrived. She was at the Eddy house and would probably sleep there. Maite ran to take a shower and I went to make our dinner.
 
 
An hour later, I was back in my bed looking at the ceiling.
 
 
I smiled thinking of Klaus.
