Making Her Numb 18+

MHN 1 || Strange

•~Nadia~•

"Doctor Collins, your next appointment will be with you in ten." Nadia, his receptionist informed through the intercom.

"Hey, Nadia, can you shift the appointment by half an hour, if not much." The Doctor loosened his tie, tired of the endless appointments. He hated Mondays, especially Mondays in the month of December.

Everyone wanted to get their insurance benefits before the end of the year. He hated the patients who really had no specific problems as such but they chose to give a list of unrelated symptoms just to ensure that they were fine from the head to the toe.

"I will try to reshuffle but this one seems persistent." She whispered as if trying to hide the fact that she was talking.

"Who isn't? When did she call last?" The Doctor was growing annoyed, he never really liked the impatient ones.

"She didn't."

"She didn't call? Did you give her a same-day appointment? I don't pay you for this Nadia." The Doctor didn't appreciate such mismanagement of his schedule.

"She says it's urgent, Doctor. She is waiting right outside, should I ask her to come back later?" The receptionist felt humiliated for getting a scolding, it has been hardly a month since she got this job, she would like to keep it.

"Yes, if you want your month's pay." The Doctor hung up on her. She cringed at the monotonous tune that plays after the phone goes dead.

"All right then," She whispered to herself, preparing herself to give an excuse for the absence of the doctor in polite terms.

"Appointment number A192 is requested to report at the reception. I repeat, Appointment number A192 is requested to report at the reception."

Nadia took out some files which contained preliminary papers to be filled by the patients before the examination could actually be done. But she was aware how useless these papers actually were in this office, they were only made to be filled by the patients so that the doctors can stall the appointment to another time.

She felt a shadow fall over her desk and looked up to find a person standing there wearing a hood, her face was completely invisible. She knew it was a 'her' by the blonde locks which were falling out from the hood and the very generous breast size.

"Ma'am, Doctor Collins would not be able to attend at this particular moment because he had to leave for an emergency operation at Wavells. But he requested you to fill these forms so that he can be prepared beforehand the next time you visit. It would save you a lot of time and would help us in providing the best medical services." Nadia showed her pearly whites as she was trained to, waiting patiently for the woman to take the pen she was offering.

The woman didn't make a move to take the pen and turned around but then turned back again as if she had changed her mind and took the pen from her hand along with the files.

"Doctor Collins does not work at the Wavells, not even as a temporary specialized." Nadia heard her speak for the first time. Her voice was smooth and she spoke in a no-nonsense tone while she kept on filling the forms.

Nadia had found her behavior weird from the very beginning, she noticed her right from the moment she walked in through the doors. There was something about her that just didn't seem right. She had walked up to the reception with quick steps and handed her a paper on which there was a recommendation from a Doctor, the slip said that the patient needed immediate attention. The woman didn't say anything else while she waited for Nadia to make an appointment.

Thinking it to be urgent, Nadia allowed an emergency appointment on her own discretion which didn't turn out quite well obviously. The woman was impatient, persistent and rude, making job of Nadia more difficult.

The woman didn't care to speak a word, she would come up to her desk at random and press the bell right there to grab her attention and then before Nadia could lift her head up from the files, she will be walking back to her seat.

Nadia was annoyed and she wanted to shout o her one or two times but she wanted to keep the job so she restrained herself from doing just that. There was a board which the hospital kept right beside her desk for these impatient patients but it is stupid for the hospital t believe that such impatient people will have the patience to read a note on the board right beside her desk.

The board stated in clear bold letters :

Please be advised that your waiting time could be extensive. If you are unable to continue your wait, please let the receptionist know and she will reschedule your appointment. Thank you for your understanding and patience as the doctor takes the time to provide excellent medical care to all.

"Excuse me?" Nadia was not expecting that answer.

The woman didn't care to look up as Nadia stared at her with some interest.

"Are you a follow-up? You seem to know Mr. Collins." She stated, hoping to get something from her.

The woman kept on with her task, her pen not stopping to look at her even once. Nadia didn't want to interrupt again so she waited for her to complete the form.

She completed the process within a minute and handed her the file. Nadia was about to speak when she absurdly turned around and went straight out of the doors not waiting to look back for a second.

The door closed after her silently and Nadia stared at the door for quite a while. It was quite strange, the woman was quite strange.

She looked at the file in her hand and opened the first page to look at her name.

Plastic, it read.

She was intrigued. Strange name, she thought to herself.

"Strange, very strange indeed," She whispered to herself, closing the file. Keeping it in the follow-up appointments section, she whispered her name again, she couldn't get over the fact that someone would name a person - Plastic.

"Plastic," She whispered to herself, getting immersed into her files.
